For Sale: Tannoy Cheviots

I have a pair of Cheviots which have been refurbished by Paul Coupe at Reference Fidelity Components.
To my knowledge, the speakers have been in Paul’s workshop twice; one during their former life (cabinet refurb & polishing, I believe, not sure about anything else) and once in my ownership (crossover rebuild/service, etc). I have full details of the work undertaken on my behalf.
Although I thought they'd be my “forever” speakers - and certainly, performance wise, I could want for nothing more - aesthetically, my wife has expressed a (gentle) preference for something a bit more modern looking. Because of this - and I have to agree that work we are doing on the house lends itself to something more in keeping with the room - I thought I’d explore the option of selling at a time when there is absolutely no pressure on me to do so.
Aesthetically, I would describe one cabinet as very good to excellent and the other as good/very good. At some point in the past, the ‘2nd’ speaker has clearly had something resting on it. Probably a very long time ago. Despite the work already carried out on the cabinets (mentioned above), some marks are still apparent. They don’t bother me in the slightest. I purchased the speakers after a full inspection and in the full knowledge they were there. I suppose had I been so inclined, I could have investigated the option for a re-veneer, but quite honestly I couldn’t, and still can’t, see the need.
I don’t intend waxing lyrical about SQ other than to say they are the best speakers I’ve ever heard and there was pretty much nothing left untouched when the crossovers were refurbished last year.
I am asking £1975 and they are collection only (between Stroud/Gloucester/Cheltenham).

At long last! Images of the Cheviots uploaded. This time, I’ve taken notes as to how I actually did it so that I don’t run into these issues in the future.
On a more serious note, I’d find it really helpful and constructive if any fellow members would care to let me have their thoughts as to why no serious interest so far.

Regarding the second part of your post, there could be several reasons why there has been little interest so far. The most obvious is that for some Members times are hard, and are unable to raise the necessary monies. Another reason is that many are away on holiday and whilst away do not login to the Forum. A third is that the speakers are collection only. And finally, your speakers may not necessarily have the WAF for their new home.

It's a shame as I think they are excellent speakers as well as looking good: if I was looking for a (third) set of speakers, I would certainly be interested.

However, that would mean selling my Croft Integrated which I’ve had from new.

One other thought - you mention that one of the speakers has a mark on the top where a pot plant, or similar, had been placed. It might be a good idea to take a photo of the mark so prospective buyers can see it.

It’s not that it doesn’t sound good (at least to me), more a case of me having a particularly difficult room, sitting well off-centre and wishing for something with a balance control and single volume knob.
I thought I’d be fine with the twin volume pots but as time has gone on, it’s become somewhat frustrating.
I have thought about approaching someone like Deco to see if they can change one of the volume controls for a rotary balance but so far I haven’t done anything about it. And if I go that way then I’m not keeping the amp original - which it is at the moment (I haven’t even taken the cover off)!
Before the Croft, I had purchased a Quad 303 and pre-amp but somewhat rashly, I returned it as the amp produced an audible hum. If I had my time over again, I’d have waited for the repair rather than taking the refund.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve read about Quad and Tannoy being the ideal pairing and if the speakers stay with me, then I’m tempted to give it a go.

Indeed I bought some Tannoys a few weeks ago and I'm looking forward to getting hold of my 303 to try with them. It's been boxed up since I bought it with a valve pre that was modded with a lower output level to suit the Quad better.

I have a full schedule of the work undertaken by RFC which I will happily make available upon request. Ditto the internal condition of the drivers.

I appreciate your comments about price & timing, especially given overall condition and the fact that they’ve not long ago (under a year) had a full service/recap at RFC.
I did try my best to investigate what others had sold for and would have been disappointed to have been miles out.
At the end of the day, though, they’re only worth what someone’s willing to pay.
I guess I’m in the very lucky position of not having any pressure on me to sell (neither domestic or financial!) and if I end up keeping them, then I wouldn’t be unhappy.
If they stay with me, though, I’ll do what Paul (Coupe) recommended and lift out the drivers and apply some epdm tape. If I do that, then I’ll also take photos of the insides even though I’ve been told that they are “above average to good” condition.
After that, a change of grille cloth colour I think.
Anyway, that’s all in the future.

I've never seen one, but Glen was very obliging and would build virtually anything you wanted.
I'm not sure what the state of affairs is with Croft these days.
It's something Decco or several other companies might take on.
A good quality stepped attenuator could be used, the original pots were cheap ones from RS Components, Glen fitted a single stereo Alps for me.
