Might have to change the name of these threads since the odd day aside we haven't really had crap weather since February.
I soon as I posted that it started raining. Excellent.

Only 10C right now, with an expected high of 17C. But the sunshine is making it feel warmer. House I'm working on is south-facing, so perfect for me.
13C at the moment. Cloudy, expected to reach 20C, but no rain.
It is forecast to rain tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

Blazing sunshine here. 14C but going to get a lot warmer later. Time to go for my walk I think.
Lovely spells of sunshine and 18c currently. All set to change tomorrow, looking pretty unsettled with quite a bit of rain predicted over the next 10 days. I guess that's good for the farmers. Still a long way off but a heatwave from the 12th, 24c and sun. We'll see.
we got rain forecast for tonight, tomorrow's sunny and dry again, but after that it's down to 14C max and showers all day every day.

We had a five minute shower this morning, but otherwise sunny all day. Wasn't enough to brighten my day though, after finding I'd miss-measured a window which is going to make me 400 quid poorer :doh: Still, nobody died - that's what I tell myself to put things into perspective.

Yeah, then later I stood up hastily and a door handle poked a hole in the top of my head ("who put that there?") which bled a lot. Another scar to add to the collection. I think my body's trying to tell me to stop arsing around and retire properly.
I think I'll put off this morning's work, the rains coming sideways at a rate of knots right now, but meant to brighten up around 10am.
14C but feels like 12C. Cloudy with rain expected between 11:30 and 13:30.

Been pissing it down here on and off, windy too.

Had a walk down to the river to check out the site of the old water mill. Slipped on the wet grass on the bank, nearly went in the mill pond. Twisted my ankle and put my hand on a nettle. Brilliant.
That's enough local history for one day.

Reminds me of a holiday in Barnstaple Devon years ago when we hired some mountain bikes, and brother-in-law's girlfriend fell off into a bed of nettles, and came out covered in nettle stings and dog shit. I couldn't help myself :lol: I suppose I'm just a bad person.

Nah it wasn't that bad, just an ache. Gone now and the ankle/knee/whatever got me to Lidl and back earlier on. Feels a bit dodgy but that's all.
First time I've been stung by a nettle since I was about ten but I've fell over loads of times so I'm used to that.
Since we moved into the wild nettle stings are a common occurrence especially on dog walks, but like you, had been years before then. I find it fascinating that when they are in flower they lose their sting to allow insects to assist in transferring pollen, the return to their evil ways once reproduction is done. Sounds like an ex of mine.
Anyway, weather was pretty good today, had a trip to Norfolk to the rather non-descript towns of Diss and Thetford respectively, enjoying a drive through “The Brecks” (which they have derived from Breckland as I know it, I suppose it makes it sound more touristy) and it was very sunny most of the time. Tomorrow looks pretty ghastly, though, not because I am off to Bedford but due to tip it down.
Tipping it down here. Thought it was still the middle of the night when I woke up.

Good weather for Slugs. Been raining pretty well all day.
Drizzling here now. We never really got any sunshine.
Plenty of rain today, but dry at the moment - a small respite by the look of it. Sunday afternoon might be ok, ish - sunny spells and 15c, otherwise as Martin says, Wednesday is where we should see it settle down and warm up.
We've got more rain on the way, most of the night, then 'sunny showers' forecast for tomorrow.
Which I bet will just be showers, with no 'sunny'.
Funny that after a glorious spring as soon as we get into summer the weather goes crap.
Well it was lovely and sunny when I got up at 7, but now clouded over and looks like the showers are on the way. May dry up around 4pm. 13c currently, predicted to get to 18c.

Another wet day 10c so far
In London for the weekend, so13C, cloudy with occasional rain.
Shouldn't complain as it was supposed to be rainy yesterday, but whilst driving to London we didn't experience any rain, and the trip was quite pleasant - apart from the sat-nav taking us so far out of the way, caused me to switch her off (all sat-navs are female), and drive by sense of smell!

My lad's sat nav has a man's voice, and it just sounds wrong. Wouldn't be so bad if they'd used Roger Moore like they did at the Post Office.
The sat nav in the Volvo is female, and she's super polite ("in one mile please turn right") etc, unfortunately she's also thick as pig shit, almost made us miss our ferry last year.
Bird that does the sat nav on my phone (Google Maps) is just right - never gets it wrong and she sounds quite fit. Also can provide a picture of my destination, which is dead handy sometimes.
One of my brothers had a sassy Australian sat nav. She would say things like 'You've arrived at your destination - good on yer!'
It was quite amusing.
Don't think I've ever heard a male sat-nav but Roger Moore would work, as would Richard Burton.
They should do a Peter Ustinov version- when he's not giving the directions he could tell entertaining anecdotes.
Just having a look at what you can get - Homer Simpson, Mr T, Darth Vader and KITT off of 'Knight Rider' are all options.
Looks like there's a Brian Blessed one as well.
When TomTom (portable separate sat nav units) was a thing, you could buy/download celebrity voices. There was an Ozzie Osborne one (probably not actually him) which was mildly amusing, telling you to “take the second f***ing exit at the roundabout”. Can’t remember who else there was, but a quick google suggests Brian Blessed, John Cleese, Kim Catrall, Stephen Fry, Jeremy Clarkson and Snoop Dog!
Talking of dogs, just did our walk, got soaked on the first 5 minutes, then dried up for an hour or so before drenching us again just as we got home. Not too bad, and I actually quite like being out in the fields when it’s been raining. Had 3 layers on as only 14c, more of the same today but tomorrow looks better, then no rain in the forecast for next week and up to 24c by Thursday.
Normally my Garmin satnav (who is called "Mavis" - long story) is very accurate, and gives clear instructions, usually with sufficient warning. If I have any complaint Mavis will sometimes advise which lane to be in at a junction or roundabout too late to change if in the wrong lane.
On this occasion we were driving around the North Circular Road, and noticed the signage suggested we should turn left into boroughs which were adjacent to the borough to which we wanted. Yet Mavis just continued to advise we remain on the A406, taking us out way too far to the west.
My Audi has an inbuilt satnav, which I have only used once. Notification and display is different from Garmin, but does the job. Perhaps I should use it in future.

And if the radio is playing "Lost in France" or "Road to Hell" or "You can go your own way" it gets confusing.

When I laid turf down in the front garden many years ago I neglected to water it afterwards, only to find the next day the turfs had shrunk in size, making the garden looking a bit like a chess board. It has never been the same since, and ideally needs to be replaced.

I was on the Blackburn Riviera all day, and we only got a few spots around lunchtime. Someone in Blackburn must have been planning... actually I can't think of an activity that would be improved with rain :scratch: Just a heads up for you all, our camping holiday is just 3 weeks away, so be ready for ten days of meteorological misery.
Supposed to improve tomorrow morning, but now that I've booked a job on a dormer roof that may all change.

19c and sunny intervals - no rain in the forecast for the next 2 weeks and low to mid 20’s. Happy days.
Reached 22C and despite at times being overcast, it did not rain.
We got to 17C here but only briefly, plus its windy.
Still predicting 24C tomorrow but it will still be windy.
That's the same pattern we had last year where almost every warm sunny day also had a gale blowing.

Warm today, but very very windy. It's trying (and failing) to rain. The predicted thunderstorms haven't materialised yet.
24c currently and not a cloud in the sky, which can't be said for Sutton in Surrey where I was at lunchtime when it was chucking it down. Tomorrow predicted to be clear and sunny again, up to to 28c.
Had a few hours of quite heavy rain but the sun is out again now.

We didn't get the thunderstorms, not even any rain. We wasted an hour yesterday weatherproofing a re-roof. But if we hadn't, we'd have had a mini-Katrina as dictated by Sod's Law.

We've had a bit of sun, a bit of cloud, a bit of rain (with big bouncing raindrops), and now a bit more sun. 20C.
Today absolutely glorious again, 25c and sunny. Had massive thunderstorms overnight, started around 00:30. had to come downstairs and sit with the dog as he was petrified. I must say it was one impressive storm, almost like a hurricane with the driving rain and trees bending in the wind. The windows and doors shook and rattled when it was thundering immediately overhead. Best/worst thunderstorm I've ever experienced.

Was at a mate's in Birmingham one time and Diwali was going on, loads of fireworks going off. Dog under table whining, the two cats sat in the window, watching them. You could see their little heads moving as they tracked the trajectory of the rockets.
My cat doesn't like that sort of thing, she hates loud noises and sudden movements. In fact she doesn't like anything except me. I'm the only thing in this world that she trusts. Maybe because I don't make much noise and don't move very quickly. She probably thinks I'm her mum.

My cat was the same - if I did move rapidly (very rare) he would shy away, but he wasn't bothered about loud noise outside the house, sometimes he would jump up in the window to see what was going on.
I think they are smart enough to understand there's a barrier between outside and inside and that whatever's going on outside can't get to them. Dogs don't seem to get that.
Bit of cloud here but it's been mostly sunshine so far.

Had my hair cut this afternoon, and did some shopping. Was going to do some gardening but thought "sod it" and opened a can of lager instead. :D

26C is way too warm for gardening anyway. Though for a cold beer that's almost perfect :)
Clear skies here since about 1600. Was 21C but cooling off now.
Went for twilight walk with the dog, got back around 22:15 and sat in the garden still in T-shirt and shorts - only just come in, still 17c out there and the sky is clear. One of the things I love about living in the sticks is looking at the stars - and satellites - until I moved out of town I never realised how many satellites you can see.
When we were out for the walk we saw a very odd thing, it was like fireworks, but they were coming from something that was moving, I would have said it was a plane but could have been a drone. It was almost like a plane firing flares to repel missiles - Top Gun style, but there was at least one burst that did look like fireworks. Once it had finished the "display" it went off in a straight line, with just one dim white light. Very strange.

One of the things I love about living in the sticks is looking at the stars - and satellites - until I moved out of town I never realised how many satellites you can see.

It was almost like a plane firing flares to repel missiles - Top Gun style, but there was at least one burst that did look like fireworks. Once it had finished the "display" it went off in a straight line, with just one dim white light. Very strange.

Very windy here which is keeping it bearable when outside.
Was on the train this morning, it was packed and that was stultifying. Happily only a 30 minute journey. I know those modern carriages have proper air con so they must have had it turned right down.
Came back from London once on a day like this, Friday evening, packed train but I found one seat - then realised the reason it was empty was the air con was broken in that carriage. But I wasn't going to stand between the carriages for an 80 minute journey so I just coped with it. Think it was well over 100C in there.
Remember when there was no aircon but the windows could open? It was noisy, but there was nothing to break down and you stayed cool as long as the train was moving.

27C here today, which is nice or awful, depending on what you are doing. I had a busy day, and it was bloody torture. Customer helped with glasses of water with ice cubes and a weird shaped lolly that hit the spot. Doing bugger all till Tuesday now, by which time it should be cooler.
I don't yet know if I'll be going to Cranage in the Volvo (which has air con) or in the Vito (which just has windows that open). Here's hoping.
Forecast to reach 32C tomorrow, just in time for me to some necessary weeding which can't be put off!

Oh but it can, Barry, trust me - I'm an expert at putting things off. Gets cooler after tomorrow, that would be a good time for weeding :)
A bit difficult to visualise, but my garage is detached from the house and in a block along with four others. The alleyway leading to the block is private, part of it is my property. My neighbour likes to leave his electric car in front of his garage on my part of the alleyway. As such I need to have it moved so I can weed underneath. I have arranged a 'window of opportunity' with my neighbour tomorrow, so I can't put it off.

This month's Which? magazine is featuring portable air con units, and I must say the idea is tempting. Though chucking 500 quid at something that would only be useful for ten days a year, while cluttering the place for the remaining 355 is putting me off a bit.

I didn't cope very well with yesterday's temperatures, despite all the glasses of iced water and lollies. I even had a cold bath last night (well, swimming baths temperature but without the chlorine). And it wasn't as nice as I'd hoped.
Anita bought me a rechargeable mini-fan, which I placed on the bedside cabinet about 12" away. Actually worked quite well, though I did wake a couple of times due to the noise and also the cooling effect making me get up for a piss at 2am.
Looking better out there today with the wind. And tomorrow at Cranage there will be some beer, which always helps :)

Enough to get the smell of water on hot cement though - the classic scent of summer in suburban England - so there was that.
Forecast says we might get the edge of another band of rain about 1430 but then that's it and the skies should clear.
I think this hot weather is causing the downstairs telly to play up. We switched it off by the remote at 23:00 last night. This morning came down for breakfast at 05:15, only to find the TV was on. Switched it off again by the remote, had breakfast and headed off to a boot-sale. Returned at 13:00, again to find the TV back on again!
This has happened once before in the past. I think we will have to switch off the TV at the mains socket. It's all a bit spooky, especially as the, far newer, TV upstairs has never displayed any errant behaviour.

Now you mention it I can't say I've ever noticed it anywhere else, even places where you often get a heavy rain shower in the evening after a baking hot day.
Maybe their concrete is different? Or their rain.

I was too lazy to do any of those things, and so it didn't rain at all. We got a bit of thunder and lightning though. Srill dry out there, though the sky does look a bit dodgy.

14c and chucking it down
It was 37 here yesterday, with clear blue skies. Too hot for this time of year.
Fortunately the pool is cooler, so spent my time cooling off in the pool when necessary. I couldn’t stay in there as it was my daughters birthday party and I did not want to cramp her style.
This morning is much better. 24 degrees and overcast, with a refreshing wind.
But it is the dog I feel sorry for.
He is scared of water, so does not go anyway near the pool.
He does not like being squirted, but is happy to let me get him wet, using a jug of water.
Phew! 37C is just too hot for me. When it gets to 30C and beyond I 'shut down' and have only two thoughts on my mind: to seek shade and a cold lager (or a cold fruit juice if I'm in a Muslim country).
Had an hour of sunshine first thing then its been cloudy and dull all day, with a stiff breeze.
Not cold but went the chippy earlier and I put a jacket on to go, I wasn't too warm in it.
Looks like more of the same tomorrow but with rain too.
Started the day at 19C and overcast. Went into town without a jacket and it wasn't cold. Reached 24C, so overall quite pleasant.
Definitely cooler and cloudier today, not sure what the temperature got to but about 21c I guess. Needed a jacket on the evening dog walk, and just come in from the garden as a bit chilly. Warmer tomorrow but cloud predicted until late afternoon.

I am praying for rain, a cool night and some decent sleep, but it looks like I have to wait until Thursday for that.

It was this time last year that we spent a night in Clermont-Ferrand, where the car's thermometer showed 40C. How could you ever get used to that sort of thing?
No rain but we never really got any proper sunshine.
Started off wet at 7am but slowly improved as I headed to Bedfordshire and back and by this evening pleasantly sunny and clear. Just back from twilight walk half an hour ago and sat in the garden listening to Smooth Chill on the radio with a couple of night light candle lanterns - still 19c even though sky is completely clear and the stars bright.
Saw the local herd of red deer in the fields for the second time this week, dog went mad trying to get at them but I wouldn’t fancy his chances if he actually ever did!
17C at the moment and expected to reach 27C later. Chance of some rain showers late morning.

Was dull when I went for my walk this morning, of course ten minutes in the sun comes out blazing and it was like crossing the Ghobi Desert. Had to cut it a bit short as it was just too warm.

Looks like Sunday and Monday will be the really warm days, giving out 26C here but based on previous observation the reality is usually 2C lower than the prediction.

After a cool grey start it's starting to warm up and get brighter. Should be able to cut the grass later, which in a week and a half has grown to cat-hiding length.
Wasp man came yesterday, and he seems to have sorted things. I got to see inside the empty lawnmower box, which contains not one but two nests, and enough dead wasps to fill a jam jar. And that doesn't include the ones still inside the nests. To do this and also deal with the ground nest in the back garden the total bill was £100. I don't think that's bad.
There were a few of the critters flying around aimlessly, but they're all gone too now. They must have realised there's nothing for them here now and buggered off to find alternative digs.

Got warmer out there as forecast, but v. windy. Took this opportunity to cut the grass, which has grown stupidly long overnight. Three quarters filled one wheely bin and took both my 5 ah batteries to empty. So now it doesn't look like I've spent the afternoon on my arse playing tunes ;)
I went down the cash machine and then 'Bargain Buys' which is a sort of post Armageddon Woolies, although its not as bad as it used to be, as some of the lights are working now.
It was properly warm out there, but it's clouded over again now.
Gave a beggar ten bob before I thought about it. There he is, sat in the sun with a can of White Lightening on the go. He didn't even look that dishevelled but it was too late by then.

Still currently 27c though.

Lovely warm day, blue sky with a few white fluffy clouds. Took our house guests out to the Maldon estuary to see the barges. It seem like the whole of Essex had the same idea; well certainly the motorbike clubs.
Reached 29C which is more than enough for me, and for my partner who was born in West Africa.

I think there was a Cosworth Mk1 used in rallying, Cosworth developed an engine specifically for it.
Whether the one I saw had that or some later varient I don't know. He might just have stuck the badges on a standard Mexico.

It did sound like the engine was 'tuned' which is why I think the Cozzer badges weren't just for show.
Also it was so mint, no-one who did a resto like that would put fake badges on it.

Been round to the Sainsbury, baking hot out there but the breeze means it's manageable. Still 23C indoors though.

We’re set for a hotter day tomorrow up to 30c, but drops to 21c and potentially showers on Wednesday. Weekend looking similarly cool and damp, but mid 20s and sunny again thereafter - although of course that could all change/be wrong!

Flying ant days are here again!
Not exactly a swarm, but here at the Pony stables the air is carrying a lot of them, and the lawn is covered by hundreds of the critters. I've just had a look at today's Manchester Evening News, which says that due to the warm temperatures on the back of high humidity, they will arrive sooner than normal and in much larger numbers.
I've just successfully seen off an ant infestation on the front path, using 'ant bait traps' (they worked!), but these flying ants may well have come from far away. If I had the gift of flight I'm sure I would have thought of a better destination than Chorley, though apparently it's all about mating with a queen, and I guess being desperate for a shag trumps everything.
It's 27C here. Just finishing a pub lunch, then a drive back home.
Thank goodness the car has A/C.

Ten years or so ago, A/C in cars was more of a luxury, and not normally needed. These days I would consider it to be an essential, and a potential deal breaker when buying.
Of course there's still that bit when you first get into the car, so I'm mindful of this when parking, and pick a shady bit whenever possible.
Yes, a shady bit of parking is more or less essential, otherwise the seats, steering wheel and gear lever all become uncomfortably hot.
I am forever having to explain to my partner that the A/C is not instant,] and that you have to open the front side windows so the A/C can push the hot air out and replace it with cold air.
Considering that she was born in Africa, I'm surprised at how crabby she gets in hot weather!

Might be worth buying one of those 'fold up' silver foil sheets for the inside of the windscreen. I see a lot of those being used when abroad in hot weather. I bet they have them on the Amazon.
Lengthy exposure to hot sun is not good for car dashboards and plastics anyway.

I've seen other car owners use them but never found the need - until now. I'm usually successful in finding shady places to park, but today I couldn't and the interior of the car became very hot.
£11 is money well spent for a sun screen that can fold up to fit in the door pocket. :)
(Actually just measured up and ordered a slightly smaller one.)

Years since I've been in temperatures that high except that one day we had in 2023.
Not been on holiday since 2017 and that was Scotland which was basically the north pole but with pubs and shops.

I have woken up to 21C this morning. Forecast is 32C today.
I actually got up at 2am to open all the windows to cool the house down.
It hit 27C inside yesterday, which is not pleasant.
I slept in the spare room last night, with the aircon on. A good nights sleep was most welcome.
The weather is set to change on Sunday.
