Back in January I realised that I spend almost all of my time at home in the study, a tiny room 8’6” x 7’3”. When we moved in in 2019, I bought a pair of Edifier R1700BT powered speakers, around £110 if I recall, and they were very good for what they are. However, I yearned an upgrade, and decided I would find something around the £3-400 mark to replace them with.
Cue lots of Googling, plenty of YouTube reviews and my interest piqued with the French brand Triangle. I had heard of them of course, but not heard any of their speakers. Well, I ended up blowing the budget on a pair of AIO Twins - £699 from Richer Sounds, without listening to them but knowing I could send them back if I wasn’t happy.
First impressions on receiving them and unboxing was that they are great quality and good looking – I opted for the possibly boring maple wood finish, although they are available in a few colours. Set up was easy – they are essentially an all-in-one system, with wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as phono (either line or turntable with a built in phono pre - yet to be tested) and SPDIF optical inputs. Once connected to the wi-fi, I set about trying the Triangle app. It’s not great, but does the job. Using the Tidal or Spotify (or Quboz, or Global Player, BBC Sounds, etc) apps as an Apple user I can connect via AirPlay. However, as this is a desktop system, physical connectivity isn’t a problem. I tried various options from kit I already have, but decided I needed a new option for hi-res audio, and bought an Audioquest Dragonfly Red off eBay for about £70.

So how do they sound? Wonderful, is the short answer. I am listening a little over a metre away, and the soundstage is immersive. The detail and separation is amazing, almost like headphones but without the closed in feeling. Listening is mostly at moderate levels, but you can still hear and appreciate (if not feel) the bass. There’s no overemphasis on the treble, and no listening fatigue at all even after a full day.
