I’ve been having issues for the last couple of days trying to view threads on the website, anyone else having problems, this is using my IPad, which is what I have always used?

Hi Robin, I have noticed over the last three days or so that navigating the AoS threads is way slower than usual, sometimes timing out. particularly bad a couple of days ago when briefly I was unable to post images. Things still seem a little slower than normal, but it gets there eventually.
Is your iPad wireless? The hot weather of late could be the cause.
Today (in London) it has been 28 - 29C, and whilst bearable it has been a total PITA as regards mobile reception. Inside buildings there has been either no signal, or if a 'couple of bars' the network has been painfully slow. Even outdoors the signal strength has been low.
It's still slow at the moment.

Still having. Issues, timing out and bad gateway, nothing to do with the weather here as it’s only around 12c. Been like this for a few days.

I had it a couple of days back but then it was fine again. Just started again earlier this evening.
Don't know what the issue is, if it is specific to a few users or whole site?
Definitely playing up, on both iPad (mobile connection) at work, at home, on PC too - symptoms are just general slowness. We'll have to see what we can do.

Slower than ever this morning, slower than a slow worm slowly getting pissed on sloe gin. My one-sentence last post took about 10 minutes start to finish and timed out twice. It's really distracting me from watching the worst Moby Dick film ever.
It's not particularly fast here. :( But this post went through in about 10 seconds.
I had a “database error” message a couple of days ago.
I had a “database error” message a couple of days ago.
I've had the database error message a few times recently, and the site still seem very slow to load today (Saturday 3rd May 2025).
In an effort to improve forum performance certain very long threads are being closed and new versions opened.
If you are still experiencing problems with the forum being slow or access failing with 'Bad Gateway' or similar messages, please let us know here.
Thank you.

Your "Lash up" thread was being a nightmare last night.

Have you had any issues today? I've closed a couple more very long threads early this morning and not had any issues since.
It's not getting onto those specific threads that's the problem, it's that having very long still open threads slow the software down - or so I'm told, the whole thing is way beyond my pay grade. I don't think my thread is long enough to be an issue - the ones I've closed have been 1500 pages or more.

Went to your thread earlier and it was fine. No problems anywhere else either. Might be as you say.
Last night the Forum was a nightmare for me as well! It is much better behaved today.

It's weird some days are better than others, there has been a definite deterioration in the ability to access the forum.
It was really slow this morning.
It was slow for me yesterday evening. Seems fine now though.
I didn't have any trouble last night, and it seems fine at the moment.
But it is something we will have to keep an eye on.
Another database error this morning.
Not had that but loading slow again after being fine for a week or so.
Not really sure what the issue can be. I think I have closed all the really long threads, if anyone sees any still open let me know.

I had database errors last night
It's pitifully slow this morning.
Think I'll have to speak to our resident expert for help.

Excuse my ignorance on this sort of thing, but could it be that the site is so full of words and pictures there isn't room for much more? Could any threads/posts over say, 5 years old be somehow condensed and put into a sort of bin?
I do a similar thing with my car port - anything that hasn't been used for more than a few years gets chucked. If I didn't the space would eventually become unusable.
Things have been a bit slow this morning, but not enough to time out.
Other forums and not just hi-fi ones have been similarly slow recently. One explanation is an invasion of AI Bots trawling for data.
I think part of the problem is we're on an old version of the VBulletin software.
The record number of users on line has been jumping up rapidly over the past few months - I don't think these are actual people viewing the site (some will be obviously).
Currently showing 5.2K guests on line and a recent new record of 8076. Seems unlikely given we got nowhere close to that back when there was a lot more new content on the site.
That might have something to do with it.
None of us have the access to download the latest version of the software or the access to make various other changes that might speed things up.
I don't have any deep understanding of how it works but I don't think there's a valid comparison with your car port :)

Fair point, I don't think I've ever had 5.2k guests coming to view my car port, despite my frequent adverts in Garage Monthly. :( I blame the Russians, they're usually at the bottom of things going wrong.

This last couple of evenings my Sky Q box has been acting up, tech types might call it crashing, I call it being a right shitbag. My mate's has also been doing the same thing, and there are others mentioning this online. Almost certainly unrelated to AoS woes, but there's definitely some weird shit going on.

Russians.
Jack Nicholson was spot on until he started blaming the Indians. But then those were different times.

Been all but impossible for me this last couple of days, keeps coming up with a page saying 'Database error'. Judging by the paucity of posts today it looks like I'm not the only one.
Yes, it is very frustrating, we are trying to do what we can but it is limited, unfortunately, as none of us have administrative access to the server/database. Apologies.
I haven't been able to post today until now. I got a message from v-Bulletin saying 'database error' and 'session timeout' (?).

Yep was getting the same.
It seems to be behaving itself at the moment. Let's hope it was a passing 'glitch'.
I could not get on at all most of yesterday, but seems fine now.

I couldn't get on when I tried an hour ago, but now it's gone back to garden variety slowness.

Very frustrating on Tapatalk as well, I'm checking the forum for updates less and less as a result.
The slowness I can cope with, it is not being able to access the forum at all that I find frustrating.
The system has been rebooted but seems to be worse now than before. This is the first time I've been able to get on since yesterday afternoon.

The boffins have been at the controls, and we think the issue is resolved, fingers crossed…. I certainly hope so!
