Haufe vs. Cinemag (Denon DL-103R)

Hello,

I started this topic because I could not find any information where these 2 SUTs would be compared discussed against each other.

I've read the information here that Auditorium23 uses Haufe transformers in their MC step-ups and I also heard here and on other forums that Cinemags are also quite good.

- Cinemag CMQEE-3440A
- Haufe T-7883

I just received an offer for both transfomer brands from their manufacturers and basically they their price is almost identical (circa USD 50-52/pc).

I would like to have a nice SUT for my Denon DL-103R and I would be interested in your opinion or if anyone had the chance to compare them.

I have used the Haufe T-7883 transformers with the Denon 103, for the simple reason that Haufe explicitly state these transformers are suited to a 40Ohm source impedance (i.e. that of the Denon 103) and have a 10:1 turns ratio, again suitable for the Denon.

Cinemag products are well regarded and I see no reason why they should not be eminently suitable.

You are already using suitable Sowter transformers. Why not live with them for a while, before you decide to look elsewhere?

Unfortunately I don't have the Sowter transformers. I am in the process of buying the pickup and suitable SUT as well as a suitable headshell.

Right now I would opt for the Haufe but Cinemag also looks interesting.

Seems I have confused you with a recent correspondent who enquired about the use of Sowter transformers with the Denon 103.

Again, I would commend Haufe transformers (as used in the Auditorium 23 device: http://www.toneimports.com/auditorium23/a23hommage.html) as I have have direct personal experience of these with the Denon 103.

Having said that, I also have a high regard for the Cinemag products, so would not dismiss these either.

I have listened to Marco's Auditorium 23 step-up with his Denon cartridge on my system and I would say it's a superb match. Similarly, my CineMags suit my AT33PTG very well indeed, with 184 ohm loading. I don't think you'd go far wrong with either, but it's probably best to stick with the ideal cartridge match depending on which cartridge you wish to run.
