HiFi Pig review of the Oslo Show

I won't summarise all the rooms but a few things stood out as interesting.

First the guy ("HiFi Deli") with a pair of EMT TTs and lots of MC transformers wired up to show the differences. I thought @Barry would like the EMTs. Also nice to see him going as a private individual to a trade show. I wonder if he had to pay for the room.

There are more wide(-ish) baffle speakers coming to the market, even Audiovector are making a pair which surprised me. I'm glad we have a different choice to the narrow speakers with lots of small bass drivers in parallel to get lower bass. It never sounded quite right to me in the bass dept. compared to a large woofer. Some may remember the vintage SD Acoustics speakers I took to the last Wam show, I did like them.

Da Capo were showing off the new Usher speakers. I hadn't realised they (Usher) were still in business, I had a pair of their Tiny Dancers a few years ago.

Henry Audio were using a pair of Impulse H2s to demo their gear. I can't think of the last time I saw them at a show.

And lastly just an observation. The Audio Note distributor had an almost identical system to the "official" room at Whittlebury (bar the TT) including the field coil AN/Es. I bet it sounded nice.

Thanks for sharing hifipig's review of the show. A lot of interesting product on demonstration there, 99% of which are completely new to me.

Oh - I love the EMT 930 decks, and think I would have spent most of my time in that room listening to those SUTs!

I agree it's good to see the return of 3 way speakers with a large bass driver - like that Pylon 30 https://pylon.pl/en/jade-series/jade-30/

There's something they offer that the thin towers with multiple units don't.

Also good to see retro looks in electronics are making a comeback. Level meters, wood sleeves, end cheeks, all that stuff. Too many bland, boring boxes these days.

Looking forward to listening to at least some of this equipment at the NW show in June.

Really interesting, thanks for sharing. AnalogLab's Garrard 401 is beautiful - that plinth is exactly what I would want for mine.

I'd never heard of Anette Askvik - streaming her 2011 debut Liberty now and it's rather lovely!

I'm actually amazed at how many hi-fi companies were at the show that I had never heard of - and surprised they all survive, given that I would imagine hi-fi is a declining market generally?
