Grey start to the day, about 5C. Looks like I might get to mow the lawn today, grass looks to have dried out a bit. Get to add some more steps to the slightly hilly one mile walk I did before breakfast, unless I decide later that I would be overdoing things.

10C forecast for later on - yes, double figures! We don't get that very often here, even in the summer.
This weather is starting to remind me of the 'Covid Spring' when it was T shirt weather by late March.

Blazing sunshine here, giving the Chorley Riviera a run for its money today.
I know, you have to build up to these things, by the time I got back my ankles were giving me some right gyp. Maybe I need a couple of days of recovery.
Dull in Chorley, sunny in Stoke, world's gone mad! Could rename it Costa del Stoke, if only your Costa was 50 miles nearer. By which I mean the seaside, not the overpriced brew outlets.

Greeted this morning by the thickest frost yet but it soon cleared with the Sun which is wall to wall right now.

We live next to The Rectory, but the vicar and wife "left" last year, so now I am suspicious... Then there's "The Chestnuts" opposite, and come to think of it, I haven't seen the old boy who lives there for weeks - normally goes out on his push bike every day... You may well be right!

That was filmed in Suffolk - in and around Long Melford. Where I took my wife on our first date - not because of the Lovejoy connection I hasten to add!

Obviously, then, I don't watch 'soap operas'. However I was a big Auf Weidersehn Pet fan and watched both series.
I have also watched and own a copy of every episode of Bergerac, and watched every episode of M.A.S.H.
To complete my credentials, I have over the last sixty years or so, listened to most of the episodes of the Archers on Radio 4.

Similar to yesterday, that is -2C and foggy. The fog is starting to clear and expected to be another cool but sunny day.

Yeah but sunny weather isn't everything - have you got enough pound shops to cope with the increased tourism? Keenly priced souvenirs are important, something that says "Yes I've been to Stoke", otherwise folk won't believe you.
Can't you buy sticks of rock with "Stoke" written through the middle?
You can get some pottery, I suppose.
The pound shop closed down but we still have 'Home Bargains' for the authentic Soviet Bloc / East Germany shopping experience.
Plus if you want a tattoo or to place a bet, you're spoiled for choice.

I would want something that convincingly announced I had indeed visited, but tattoos are just too permanent. Perhaps I could find a Turkish barbers willing to shave STOKE onto my dog's side? Ofc I'd need to get a dog first.

I think it lasted a year so that could be the final episode although I have a feeling it was more than once a week, maybe 2 or 3. I saw most of the episodes but probably missed the odd one when I was in the student union.

On my Sky planner it goes up to episode 63, I don't know about beyond that. I watched ep. 53 earlier to gauge how bad it really was. Not really awful, but one thing I noted that I couldn't live with is the acoustics in the rooms, too many reflective surfaces, due to all the tiles. We are such a sad bunch!

So, back to the weather... Forecast is warm and sunny all week, at least until my next day of work (Friday). I'd like to get out and about (gets to 14C on Thurs, that's motorbike temperatures), but I have a feeling I'm going to be roped into gardening duties :(
10C but sun has gone in. Probably worn itself out over the last week it's been out that much.
Going to get cold overnight down to 1C. Forecast says it will get to 15C on Thursday!
12C here. It's been another sunny but cool day.
Washed the car and cut the grass, so I'm feeling a bit self satisfied.

Seems warmer than yesterday but not been outside yet. Time for my walk so will report back.

Lovely here too, maybe a bit more wind than yesterday and it's still chilly in the shade. But only first week in March, it could be zero degrees and snowing.

Now 15C and still sunny. :)
Washed the car again, as I had left it parked on front of the garage and the wind had blown bits of moss and other detritus off the garage roof and onto the car. Being white the car shows up all the dirt.
Sun going down here, we only got to 9C and the wind had some bite to it but otherwise another dry and sunny day.

Anita recently found another Romanians car wash. Best clean the Volvo's ever had! If you think white's a bugger for showing up dirt, believe me black is just as bad. But these Romanians are doing a sterling job, really take their time over it, they don't use a dryer, chamois leathers over every square inch, they open all the doors to do all the edges, they 'black' the tyres, and give you an air freshener (cherry today). All for 8 quid - not worth getting out the bucket and sponge!
I know I should take on more of these jobs now I'm 'retired', but I'd be out there all day on it to clean to that standard.
Bikes turn for a clean tomorrow, but I'll be doing that meself - wouldn't trust anyone else with it.
Like a summer day here, there's absolutely no background chill at all, unlike all the previous days. Windy but it's not a cold wind.
Yes it was glorious here too. Was in the office for most of it but did get out for a short walk at lunchtime and a few sneaky vape breaks.
Tipping down with rain here now. Started about tea time.

Rain stopped at 8am, and stayed stopped. So not a bad day really. Sun trying to break through.
Sun been in and out here. Did go a bit dark an hour ago thought it might downpour but it didn't and it's light again now.
Think we've seen the last sun for today though.
Trees and bushes still not showing any sign of shoots of green. I thought all the sun past couple of weeks might have got them going early but seems it doesn't work that way.
It got up to 15C today, and the possible rain forecast didn't materialise.
Absolutely lovely out on the fields with the dog, 12c, sunny blue skies and a gentle breeze. I ne'er cast it, but I certainly didn't need a clout.
Sunny here too - 14C rising to 16C later.
Shame it all comes to an end on Tuesday when it's back to winter again.
Looks the same down here from Tuesday, maximum of 7c with potentially frosts overnight and some rain. Ah well, was nice whilst it lasted! (And the week after next it picks up a bit again.)
Supposed to be 'above average' temperatures for the second half of the month, although here that still means it will probably be a bit chilly.
Can't complain though - I can recall years where we didn't see any sun at all until it got to July.

A sunny 10c this morning
14c and sunny, hardly any wind. Just had a lovely 2 hour walk with wife and dog and going to do some gardening after lunch.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day. Cut the grass and did a bit of gardening, but didn't reward myself with an ice-cream when the van did its rounds.

Plenty of sun here, but also pretty windy and that wind definitely cooler than yesterday. I did get out for half an hour, picking up fallen leaves from my Photinia Red Robin. I can only cope with this rock 'n' roll lifestyle for so long, so I'm back indoors again for some Mulligatawny soup :)

Frost has just melted off the cars now. I'm having to break my minimum 10C rule for taking the bike out in about an hour, taking it up to Preston for MOT. It's going to be pretty uncomfortable :( At least it's not raining.
It was a lot colder last night here, went down to 1C but no frost.
Looks sunny outside right now but forecast says dull all day with a high of 8C. Going to be around 8C for next 7 days with some sunny spells.
It only reached 8C here today. Despite being a bright sunny day there was a continuous and chilly breeze, which with the wind chill factor made the temperature appear lower.
So when I went out to do some shopping I had the fleece liner zipped into the outer shell of my jacket, and wore a scarf and gloves.
Wind was a bit biting here too. North-easterly, it's here all week.
Sunny start but it's cold. Went round supermarket, bloke walking along in front of me with his wife, he's wearing a polo shirt. I'm thinking - how can he not be cold?
At that moment the sun goes behind a cloud and he's immediately complaining to his wife that he's cold.
Wife tells him he's an idiot.
Some black clouds gathering so we might be due some rain.
7c and sunny spells, but showers around - had a load of hail about an hour ago.

Found ourselves about 1000ft above Derwentwater this afternoon when the hail started. Minutes later the clouds moved away, exposing the highest part of Skiddaw, which looked like it had been snowing. Looked really impressive in the sunshine. Bloody chilly, but the pub lunch we'd had in Keswick gave us an amount of central heating :)
Sounds like a good day out.
I swear we had a few flakes of snow here earlier. By the time I got to the window to check it had stopped.
Or I was just seeing things. Sky did look a bit like snow clouds though.

We were in the Lake District: Windemere; Keswick etc. over Christmas last year. It was cold with some snow and rain at times, but fortunately we missed both weather events when we were out.

Derwentwater and its surroundings is my favourite part of the country. Borrowdale, Newlands valley, Swinside, it's all good. I've been up many of the fells there in my younger years, and hope to do some more this year.
Also visited Ashness bridge (probably the most photographed scene in the Lakes), and up beyond it to "Surprise View", which certainly is that - to be standing a metre away from a seemingly vertical drop of 600ft down to the Lodore Hotel did make me a bit queasy.

Today we've had fog, Sun, rain, hail with large chunks which stung my face and snow with huge flakes over an inch across. Blue sky and Sun now.
Cold. 5C. Supposed to get a bit warmer and sunnier later but with showers.
Mild weather is forecast to be back next week, giving out 15C for Wednesday.
Saw some blossom yesterday on a couple of trees and some daffs starting to open. That was on my walk through the 'Beverly Hills' area ofc, no trees or flowers near where I live it's all thistles and brambles. If a tree grows up on the waste ground they're straight round to chop it down. They leave the brambles because they don't contribute to our quality of life.
4C, partially cloudy but with some sunshine. Expected to get up to 7 - 8C around lunchtime.

No not south facing and in any case it's a shit-show. One of my many 'retirement jobs' is to sort that out. It does get a bit of sun in the late afternoon in the summer.

If your main problem is with over-growing weeds, this is the perfect time to get them killed, before they go mental. Then cover with a weed control membrane and a couple of tons of gravel or limestone chips. Job done. If you want a lift with it just give us a shout. I'm not bad with a barrow :)

Same here, don't know about the cloudy afternoon though on the Chorley Riviera.
Stoke Riviera has slipped in the rankings last week, it's been bitter here, especially yesterday. Stupid easterly wind.
Probably will just stay in and play music - once the neighbours get their arses out of bed.
5c at the moment, should get to 7c but down to well below freezing overnight. Sunny spells with cloud clearing, a moderate breeze. Have my dad coming over for the weekend so will not be going far and will get the wood burner going. Currently 13c in the office. Brrrrr!

In our "dining room", where I keep all my records, CDs and second stereo, it is a toasty 21C (with no heating on) due to the sun beaming through the big window. Trouble is it also makes a very good laundry drying room, so to get to my records I have to run the gauntlet of drying towels, socks and grundies. First world problems...
Sun's gone in now, was able to bask in the last ten minutes or so of it.

I dreamed last night that my motorcycle had "pedal assist" like these electric bicycles have, and it was a doddle to use. Obviously this whole exercise thing is playing on my mind, even sleep gives me no respite.
Still, not as silly as this morning's Daily Star front page, which says taking a hot bath will make you lose weight faster than jogging. What a load of crap! I take a bath every day, and the only changes I've noticed is that every day I need less and less water to fill the bath to the brim after getting in.

No frost here but it was quite chilly first thing. Now blazing sunshine but supposed to cloud over very soon. Typical for round here - no chance of sleeping in as it's too bright but by the time you've got up and had first breakfast, it's gone dull and stays that way for the rest of the day.

Just been round to the supermarket - when sun is out there's some proper heat in it, but as soon as it goes behind clouds - it's immediately winter again.

getting cloudy now,
Just been round to the supermarket - when sun is out there's some proper heat in it, but as soon as it goes behind clouds - it's immediately winter again.

After two years of the clock in my van being about 11 hours out due to a battery change, last month my mechanic thoughtfully put it right. He needn't have bothered, it'll soon be wrong again.
For the past month there's been two male blackbirds stalking each other up and down next door's roof. Can birds be gay? I could go online for the answers, but anyone looking at my search history would think I'm weird.

The other way around - my watch says it's an hour later than it really is.
If you can tell a male Blackbird from a female one you're already way more advanced in bird knowledge than I am so I leave someone else to field that one.

You don't want the wood pigeons, they make a right old racket first thing in the morning. Though you'd need less of them to fill a good-size pie.

The sound comes down the chimney, and flue and then the wood burner acts as an echo chamber and it sounds like it is in the room. Mind you, it might have been - the last two times we had the chimney swept there was a dead pigeon, nicely smoked, just above the burner.

That’s true, my Dad’s here for the weekend and he was amazed to see a badger on the drive when he arrived. The track that leads from the road goes straight out onto open field after the house so we do see all sorts coming to have a nose around - various species of deer, foxes, rabbits, hares etc and all types of birds. There was a moorhen yesterday, although I don’t think there’s a pond very close but it came from the drainage ditch so maybe taken up residence there?
We’ve even got Red Kites now - I remember 30 odd years ago going to try and see them at the only place they remained in Wales, and now they’re all over the place. My favourites are the Buzzards, though, love seeing them soaring around.

We get quite a few buzzards round here, they're usually in pairs (mate for life apparently), but often they get mobbed by the crows until they bugger off. My favourites are the sparrowhawks, they're like the Eurofighter Typhoons of the bird world.
I did see a kestrel last week but that was up at the top of the hill. Not exactly semi-rural up there but there's a lot of open ground, big trees, big gardens.
They are more like the Hawker Harrier of the bird world I suppose.
Sometimes would see them sat atop the lighting poles on the 'D Road' when I was going to work in the mornings.
We have wood pigeons round here. I like the sound of their cooing - there's something reassuring about it.

Like I said it's not a bad sound, but when in the summer months they wake you three hours before getting up time...
I don't need wood pigeons to wake me, despite having blackout curtains in the bedroom I wake when it gets light; most likely because I need a pee.
Anyway it has not been warm here: 8.5C (according to the car), broken cloud with occasional sun. At least it's not raining.

Temperatures set to improve from tomorrow, which would be nice as I will be having a few days of "extreme gardening" at Anita's dad's house. Including taking a chain saw to the beeches :eek: So if my posts on here from Thursday are peppered with typos it may be that I'm struggling with two bloody stumps where my fingers used to be :doh:

A sunny 9C right now, set to reach 18C later.
The official start to spring today too, as opposed to the meteorological date (1st March), and varies slightly each year in line with the spring equinox. Just another 13 weeks then the nights will start drawing in :)
After a day of tree cutting yesterday, I'm now aching in places I didn't know I had places. And in the next hour I'll be back for more :( Rather be out on me bike.
Still some cloud here, supposed to be sunny and 18c too. I prefer the equinox version of the seasons so yes, I’ll agree it is Spring!

I prefer it too, it's always what I've gone by. Though I do find it a bit odd that by this measure winter only starts about four days before Christmas.
I got to have my morning coffee out in the garden for the first time this year, it's not unlike the lockdown spring almost exactly five years ago.

Regarding the seasons, meteorological makes more sense to me. 12 months, 4 seasons, 3 months per season.
No-one expects decent weather in February but there's always a chance of it in March. Plus blossom, daffodils and all that start coming out. Which makes no sense if it's still supposed to be winter.

Just back from the dog walk, didn’t need 3 layers, a warm 15c and slight breeze. Cloudy, but some bits of blue sky. Small chance of rain this afternoon.
Been sunny here despite forecast but there is some haze.
8C with rain forecast, although there is none at the moment.
9C and dull, due for some rain followed by some mist. A bit more typical weather for March here in the foothills of the Pennines.
In fact must be raining already as just seen people go past with umbrellas up.

Next week looks good as wind changes to southerly on Wednesday, high of 18C predicted.

Same here. I don't know what to do with myself - I want to be outside in the sun, but also I want to play some tunes as I've got the house to myself for a couple of hours. I suppose I could just have the DAB radio going in the garden, now that I'm done mowing the grass.
I get the forecast from my phone. It is usually accurate, though if it predicts rain the time when it is expected to start is not always correct.
Now it is 15C with brilliant sunshine in a cloudless sky.

My forecast comes from my phone too (BBC Weather app), and it has actually been quite reliable lately. I have other places still stored in the app, places I've been to. Currently it's a cloudy 12C in Keswick, sunny 18C in Beziers, and a sunny 16C in Saffron Walden (no idea where that came from, I've never been to Saffron Walden) :scratch:
My forecast appears on the front of my phone with basic information of the weather at the time such as the temperature along with a weather symbol similar to those used by the BBC.
I can look at the BBC Weather app, which is far more detailed and allows one to see weather predicted for the whole 24 hours.
Oh - based on your previous post, and with the knowledge that it might/will rain tomorrow, I have just finished cutting the grass.

By the time I left the house at 8am the rain had stopped. No more rain, and mostly sunny. Wind was a bit chilly though compared to recent days.
Yeah the wind was biting here. 8C was the max today. If it wasn't for all the sunshine we've had it would still just feel like winter.
Next week looking fantastic though. Sunny, no wind, highs of 19C.

All grey cloud here and still pretty breezy. Not quite as chilly as yesterday. Lost an hour's sleep overnight, but the real impact will be felt shortly when I get in the van. After a month of it telling the right time it'll be back to being wrong.
