Digitising Vinyl

I have a Behringer Dac that takes an analogue signal and spits it out digitally to another Dac. I only used this function briefly years ago when I got the Ultramatch Pro but as I was bored I thought I would give it another go.

Quite interesting. My take on it is that the ambience and general presentation stays much the same (including surface noise if there is any) but given the increased voltage available the sound to me sounds more substantial and is not really digital in the same way as some CDs of well known older vinyl releases can be.

Anyone else tried this?

Downloaded a hundred weight worth, and did a few of my own when I had the PS Audio phonostage (until laziness got the better of me and I gave up)

Grant digitised his (huge) record collection when he sussed his health wasn't as good as it used to be.
He spoke of how he never felt he was missing anything... (His words) digital copies even transfer the "Vinyl goodness"

Yup, they do sound better than the CD of the same album,
Though I'd add it might depend on what album and when it was put out?

Given the Loudness Wars schennanigans,
Some great music has been done a disservice by bring mastered terribly?

For Vinyl rips,
In my experience there's absolute value in digitising really well recorded well mastered 'back in the day' Unicorn recordings... a thousand percent.

Yes, some vinyl was shite ( the poor quality vinyl years) and others were bad simply because they were. I haven't played any vinyl for a looong time and my ears are not what they were but the albums that I thought were well produced still sound pretty good. One that surprised me today was Gaucho - Steely Dan as it needed much more volume to reach an acceptable listening level with some tracks louder than others. Maybe it was always like this and my system at that time masked the difference?

Maybe this renaissance with vinyl will be short lived :scratch:

Or maybe it's just a gain difference between your current phono and line inputs. My old Musical Fidelity Electra was a bit like that.
