And on it goes into the New Year - dark, damp, dismal and cold. I can't remember the last day I managed to get out and do some gardening as the weather has been so awful. Certainly not been out there this year, it's so depressing.
You beat me to it in starting a new thread for February!
Yes it's cold (5C), dull and miserable looking here, but at least the rain forecast for yesterday didn't materialise.

Chilly but dry morning. Doesn't seem to be any wind, and just a few wispy high clouds, but there's a lot of black cloud moving across the horizon a few miles south. I suspect there might be a big fire, I'll find out later.
Supposed to be sunny and 10C later, right now it's dull and cold.

Bright but not quite sunny, and a balmy 10C. Worked outside in t shirt for a while, but I'm not expecting a tan.
Sun gone in now, we had about 2 hours of it.
Almost like a spring day - but it's a false dawn, goes back to freezing cold at the weekend.

Yes they are - didn't have to put the light on until about 1710 last night. Was still dark when I got up this morning though.
Getting up in the dark when it's not a work day is against my rules but I would have had an accident in the bed otherwise. And once you're up, you might as well stay up.
Sun back out again but now too low to penetrate into the streets.

8C here too. We have the rain already and a bit windy too. Rest of week looks to be dry and sunny, but cooler.
dull with wind and rain but fairly mild in the few moments that the wind is cutting through you.
Not quite pitch black when I left work. a few more days and it will be still daylight.
3C and sunny. No sign of the rain that was forecast.

5C here, and sun's just come out.
We'll be leaving the house shortly to get some errands done, and I'll be wearing the smart watch Anita bought for me two Christmases ago, and has just linked to my phone. She's set it with a target of 8,000 steps per day, which is a bit short of the recommended 10-11,000, but I'm just being realistic. We'll see what happens.
Only 7, 686 steps to go :)

Forecast was sun all day, we got about an hour if that. Frosty start as hardly any wind.

Hazy Sun all day but too flipping cold to work outside so I contented myself giving the new PMC Prophecy 5 a good ol' thrashing.
Sunny all day here. Chilly but not much wind so quite bearable.
More of the same tomorrow then cold and dull for the weekend of course.
Today has been cold (4C), and it's drizzling with rain all day. By far the worse day so far this month, weather-wise!
A bitter east wind here, properly cutting. Consulting the forecast I see that will be with us all week.
Tonight brings four hours of sleet, then tomorrow 4C max with fog and drizzle. Lovely.
Still we've knocked off a quarter of February already, just three more weeks of winter left.
Bitterly cold outside. Supposed to be 3C but I'd say it's well into the minuses.
Now stocked up on food so won't be going across the doors again, except maybe to get a can of beer later on.

A few sunbed sessions and loading up on vitamin D would help (I'm told), might be worth a go if you don't already. I know light levels are increasing, my solar garden lights told me so :)
I suffer from SAD and found taking Vit D tablets in the winter, alongside a year round daily multivitamin, helped a lot.
Probably/possibly just psychological but if it works it works.
They say everyone in the northern hemisphere will be insufficient in D if they don't take a supplement, which has multiple physical/mental health knock-on effects.

Don't ever recall suffering with SAD, probably because I spent so much time working outdoors. Or maybe I did, I just couldn't tell because I'm a miserable git all year round. Might have a go at the vitamin D anyway, it's also needed to make calcium work properly. And stronger bones are a good thing when you're getting on a bit.
I try to take a vitamin D tablet with the evening meal, but quite often I forget. You can get extra calcium and vitamin D through eating fatty fish, dairy products: milk, cheese, and mushrooms.
My dentist told me that I ought to have strong bones judging by the state of my teeth.

Because of medical reasons I take a shed load of Alfacalcidol and Cocalciferol which are heavy duty Vitamin D my body can absorb where it can't take plain ol' Vitamin D.
Still I really suffer with these endless weeks of dull and dingy weather. A bit of Sun cheers me up instantly.

Sun's gone away now, with a lot of very low cloud. Hills, which are only 3 miles away, are barely visible. Just been out for breakfast and that wind really cuts through.
Just been down the shop. If it wasn't for that biting east wind it wouldn't be so bad.
Saw a bloke wearing shorts and 'sliders' but he looked like a monkey duster so probably why he's not feeling it.
Amazing how many blokes you see still wearing shorts in this weather and they're not all dusters.

Not too cold here, but still dull and grey and damp, though not actually raining at the moment. Dog didn’t care, still got muddy as usual.

As above. Relentless gloom and doom. Today it's also colder than usual with the promise from the Met office of at least a week more.
I love a bit of gardening and it makes me feel better. It's the only exercise I get really but so far this year I've managed just 1.5 hours in the garden because it's been so bloody awful out there.
Dull and cold plus it's been spitting off and on all day.
Forecast says the next time the sun will comes out is 1500 on Sunday.
I'm going to open a Kickstarter fund to develop a weather machine so we can sort this nonsense out. We can't go on like this.

was just thinking that today - it's bleak. Everyone's cars are all covered with winter crud so there's not even any colour there.
Just checked the forecast and the bit of sunshine promised for Sunday afternoon has now been cancelled. This crap now runs on to at least next Tuesday.

Dull and cold as usual.

The "nice" weather predicted for the weekend here has now just merged into another two days of the murk that has so far been 2025. Monday and Tuesday now looking ok, which would be fine as I have those days off, but I know God will just kick the can down the road and the nice days will be predicted to be when I am back at work, and then won't happen anyway...

No wind last night, so we decided we'd go for a mooch round sunny Lytham today. But now the wind is back and it feels pretty chilly.
So I've dug out my old Barbour lookalike coat, which while keeping out the cold pretty well, only just accommodates my increased fatness. So no room for a woolly jumper under it :( Good job there'll be cafes dotted along the route.
Been out for supplies, my last week of being able to have anything I want.
Didn't realise it's raining until I got outside, it's that fine stuff that soaks you through, so you can't see it from indoors.
Anyway, it's dreadful out.

Pretty grey out there, but no rain. And I'm expecting the Fylde coast (we're off there in a few minutes) to be brighter, sunny even. But we'll see.

I know, the forecast said "sleet" but this was proper snow, enough for my crazy son to go out in the garden and make a snowman.

Me too normally, a heady 14.2c in the study so only a T-shirt and jumper at the moment.
It will be about the same in the living room, but will get nice and toasty when I light the fire mid afternoon. The residual heat usually gets the temperature up to around 17 in the study.
17! I can't get to that at this time of year even if I run the heater all day.
It was 12C in the living room when I came down this morning. 4 hours on and it's up to a balmy 14.7 - That paltry increase has cost about three quid to achieve.
4C and clear outside. There was no sign of rain, sleet or snow yesterday.
21C indoors, so it's shirt sleeves.
-1C but sunny. No need for me to venture out today, so will stay indoors and play some tunes.

Yeah, the increase in temperature was subtle, but my fingers didn't get numb first thing, so there's that. It will definitely start to be warmer from tomorrow, but we're forecast a shitload of wind and rain.

In the summer most people open doors and windows to let the heat out, in my house doing that does actually warm the place up.
Warmest I ever got it to was 26C, that's when it was 27C outside and I'd been running a Krell KSA100, which is basically a 650 watt fan heater, for about three hours.

According to the BBC weather app it is sunny. It isn’t, it’s grey and cloudy. But it is very mild at 14c, which is a welcome relief from the Siberian conditions we have endured the past few weeks.
Gale force winds, spitting off and on, but very mild.
As soon as I got up to leave work a tropical downpour started as if on cue - not the first time that's happened either.

Not a bad haul really. Apparently they went to get a cake but the cake shop was shut. I had told them not to bother doing anything but you're wasting your breath of course.

That is a good haul, apart from the HMV voucher. Do you have a HMV in Stoke? I suppose you must have.
When I was made redundant in 2003 from my job of 22 years my haul was 360 quid. And no biscuits, not even Rich Tea :(

There's an HMV in the shopping centre so I'm told. There was one there years ago but it closed down, I didn't realise they'd re-opened.
Think if I'd hung on I'd have got redundancy as they're not doing so well. Would be statutory so I'd have got about £2K. Still better than £360 though.

When I 'retired' there were several others retiring at the same time, so the whip-round was not very large. Even so it was large enough for me to take all my colleagues down to the pub to celebrate with me: "easy come, easy go".

I admire your optimism, but we're not out of the woods yet. The 'Beast from the East' started exactly 7 years ago today. Anyway, I'd always thought the official start to Spring was 21 March. Which I know is a bit weird as that means the start to summer comes on Mid summer's day.

I'm going with meteorological Spring which starts 1st March :)
Doesn't mean we're totally out of the woods as March can be nasty in these parts, we never noticed the 'Beast From The East' here as it's almost always cold, windy and sleeting/raining anyway.
Ofc for softy southerners and those living in 'Northern Riviera' micro-climates it was probably a bit of a shock. :D

I assume 'Northern Riviera' to be me ;) That does seem to be the case, though not as much so as the North Wales micro-climate, which as we all know gave the best of everything at all times... but yes the Beast was something of a shock - we turned up to start a fascia boards/soffits/guttering job, and after 5 minutes chucked the tools back in the van and buggered off home.
I've since become even softer, if the weather looks even slightly dodgy I have no problem stopping home till things improve.
Blowing a gale out there now, and if this doesn't improve by tomorrow there'll be more work postponements.

I'll be starting my '3 miles uphill 5 days a week' retirement exercise strategy from tomorrow whatever the weather, but at least I won't be getting up in the dark and cold to do it. And I won't be starting it until at least after second breakfast and a couple of pints of tea.
When I 'retired', initially finding myself at a loose end, when I went shopping I would deliberately forget to buy an item or two, so as to give me something to do the next day!
Of course that only lasted a couple of weeks, after which I found plenty of things to keep me busy: some of them mundane like washing the car, others much more enjoyable like driving across the country to visit friends.
Now when I go shopping I have to make out a shopping list, otherwise I will forget something. These days I have a memory like a sieve!

When I visited last month, there was that 200 metre walk from the car park to the record shop, and I thought that would do me until spring at least. But then last week we walked a lap of Fairhaven lake in Lytham, a distance of about one mile. It's a fine line between doing enough and overdoing it.

Don't forget that 500 yard walk from the hotel to the pub at NEBO. In a similar wind to what Scott encountered on his trip to the pole. That should count double.

i got a million things I could do, like sanding and painting the staircase. That's a week's work just there. Whole living room could do with re-painting really. I took down a poster I stuck up in about 2003 and there's now a big, bright rectangular patch on the wall.

I got a load of music and film posters from when I was a student, I don't know what I did with them. Might still be in that tea chest I never unpacked.
There's a few giant ones - Momentary Lapse Of Reason, Apocalypse Now and The Untouchables (which is in Italian for some reason). Have to have a look for them.

Sun came out a couple of hours ago, similar to Saturday, but a bit warmer. Best day of the year so far, almost t shirt weather :)
Sun came out, a bit watery but nevertheless, went for 3 mile walk. Started raining just as got back but sun is out again now.

Pleasant here too now, no wind despite the forecast, actually had the doors open for an hour or so. Blue skies all round.
Same here. For once the weather forecast was accurate: it said the rain would cease by 12:00, and we're now blessed with a lovely sunny afternoon. But that could all change.

Didn't get past 7C despite the sunshine.
It was nice today, albeit mostly in the office or the car - rain early on cleared to sunshine - colder than yesterday, but still better than the monotonous dirge we've become used to.
That two weeks of freezing cold nothing was the worst ever, plus it was my last two murderous weeks at work as well.

Sun came out 30 mins ago but up till then it's been rain, rain, rain.
Been sunny here since about 1000 - not had the showers that were supposed to come along with it.
It's a little colder than previous few days though.
4C and mostly cloudy. What I would call "non weather".
Not doing much here yet either but a sunny day and 8C is forecast.

Hard frost last night, took ages to defrost the van. But then unbroken sunshine all day, working in t shirt for a while. Then sun went down behind the house and it was bloody freezing again. I think lunch will be soup-in-a-flask (Scotch broth today) with crusty baguettes for a while yet.

Last day of meteorological winter too! Saw some daffodils coming up yesterday, not flowering yet but will be in a week or so.
Sun trying to put his hat on, supposed to be dry and sunny for the next week but cold nights, presumably due to it being clear.

Sunny here but not been outside yet,
Forecast looks good, no big drops in temperature, gets up to 13C later in the week.
Might have a walk up to the record shop, been a while since I was last in there, see if he's had some more CDs come in.

Very heavy fog earlier, but all burnt off now and very pleasant out there. 7c at the moment but forecast to be -2 overnight.
Fabulous day, warm sun, no wind. Still a chill in the air but you only really notice it if you go in the shade.
