Johnnie walker, one of our best known Radio Presenters has died today at 4.15. Johnnie has been a regular on many radio programmes since 1966, starting with Radio England, one of the first of the Pirate Stations. For many years now he has been a regular on the BBC but having to step down in October due to ill health.

One of the UK's favourite DJs he was one of the old school with huge experience and knowledge of Radio Rock music. I've listened to him pretty well since 1966 on various stations and he usually keeps me company when gardening or working around the house. He is missed already.

Oh my god ! That is a shocker, I knew he was lightening his work load due to being ill , so sad .

A very knowledgeable DJ, never shy about saying what he thought on various subjects, knew he was ill but I think he passed a bit quicker than everyone thought, enjoyed many of his shows over the years.

One of a handful of proper, knowledgable, entertaining, great DJs. There are very few left on our airways now that the BBC has whittled them all away and come up with their policy of not playing 1960s music.

That's a sad loss. A 'proper' DJ, up there with the likes of John Peel, Annie Nightingale (whom we lost earlier this year), and 'whispering' Bob Harris who thankfully is still with us. I don't see any upcoming personalities filling their boots, maybe I'm wrong.

We are lucky to have lived through the best of times musically imo, thanks in no small part to folk like Johnnie Walker.

The likes of Johnnie Walker are few and far between thankfully the BBC had the sensibility to persuade Bob Harris to takeover the mantle of Sounds of the Seventies, not only is Johnnie Walker an almost impossible act to follow he was one of that rare breed who genuinely loved not only the music but entertaining and connecting with his audience, he like Steve Wright are sadly missed and will forever be fondly remembered.
