View Full Version : Musical Fidelity M6s Pre
Has anybody got one?
What is it like? I am still on the hunt for something more flexible than my Topping Pre90. This looks like it will do everything I want and more.
It will be driving a Modulus 686.
I don't know it but it looks okay. What does it do that the Topping doesn't?

Musical Fidelity have long been known for the fit, finish and performance beyond their price points, and I've no doubt their M6S Pre will be no different. If I had the money I'd be tempted away from my A5 integrated by the M6S Pre/PRX (maybe one day). Though of course you have the power side covered and then some with the 686.
I think you can buy with confidence Kevin, if it doesn't suit you should move it on easily enough.

More flexibility with connections. The Pre 90 is pretty basic.

Have you seen that ATC Floyddroid has just advertised in Private Exhibitions? That might be worth a look.

He's in France so the shipping would not be straightforward.
The M6s is local, as in France.
Temptation is back. It disappeared over Christmas, but has reappeared yesterday.
I know it won’t give me much over the Pre90.
I think I am going to have to be sensible, and ignore it.
It does get hard once you're up against the end stops but still want to acquire more audio equipment :)

I have been bumping against the end stop for years. Always found I came round full circle. My biggest upgrade would still be the ROOM but that takes more effort and disruption.

Or there's always gambling. That way your house doesn't fill up with stuff. Quite the opposite really.

Drugs can also soak up spare cash and while away the hours:

(I used to have the full set of those but I lent them to some stoner so of course I never got them back).

Is it going for a good price? Musical Fidelity have a history of selling with a huge discount not too long after launch to make way for yet another model. Upset a lot of customers.
Might be a thing of the past since ProJect bought the company.
It is going to cost me €1k, but then I can sell the Pre90 for about €400, so using man maths, it will cost €600.
It has an inbuilt DAC and a phono stage, but I am not sure they will be a match for what I already have.

I have the car, I play golf, I have a nice watch.
The thing is, I know that on paper the MF won’t be vastly different.

That's some pretty attractive numbers, sounds like it would be worth a punt. But then I would say that, it's not my money ;) Their DACs and phono stages have been well reviewed as standalone units but I don't know how the inbuilt jobbies will compare.
I have just bought the wife a car, so the pre amp is going to have to wait
She needed a car more than I needed a pre amp.

Why, don't they have buses down your way? :D

Yes, but the 4km walk to the nearest stop may take some time.

Yeah that's a bit of a trek and I suppose suggesting the exercise will do her good won't earn you any brownie points. But then there's always Joe le Taxi, that can sometimes work out cheaper than car ownership :)

Taxis are very expensive over here.
