Active or Passive Pre?

I have some of both. My speakers are 97dB so a passive is man enough to drive them.....but is there any benefit to going active. There are subtle differences in both. With one of my actives there is very slight noise (not hum) that I can't get rid of but is not really an issue.

I also have several of both types.

Depends on the power amp. Some play well with passive, others don't.

I've never really got to the bottom of why that is, although I'm sure there's a totally mundane technical reason. Something to do with the gain staging, ignore that at your peril!

Was using various passives with a Krell KSA50s. Swapping to an active pre was a step up I didn't expect.
