I don't think you can understand why people voted for Trump without having some understanding of the American psyche. Which you can't have unless you've spent some time there and chatted with Americans.

They may share the same - or similar - language and culture with us, but their outlook on life and the world is significantly different.

I don't get all this patriotic stuff from US vets, almost no one has attacked mainland America in its entire history, not since 1812!! Oh but we want to go on missions around the world killing brown people with no guns, yeh, you can still do that, even if a man in a dress might be charge.

We're not counting 9/11 then?

The Nazis and Imperial Japan would have got around to it too, if they'd been given the chance.

'If you want peace, prepare for war.'

Plus it's the politicians who decide to deploy. I'd guess most of the troops are happy doing a bit of training and then off to a barbeque with steaks and beer, rather than getting shot at in some shithole country.

Probably worth mentioning that exactly forty four years ago British born and raised John Lennon's life was ended by US born then born-again Presbyterian and all round no-mark Chapman. US gun laws and the "knowledge" that he has God on his side is a terrible combination, so thank The Lord that America only has one Mark Chapman.

OK, you're going back a bit there, I don't think anyone these days is going to apologise for WW2 fascist states. US foreign policy really took its rogue turn post WW2, but actually not that far after WW2. They allied with Japan in Korea in '45, yeh that's a little known fact that one. They also allied with German troops in Greece to stop the socialist forces from gaining traction there, as they did in Italy, funnily enough I only just read about these events today, you may be aware of them yourself. They also protected leading Nazis to aid them in their paranoid fight against communism. They wiped out 20% of the Korean pop. in the Korean war, they sprang a coup d'etat against the liberal nationalist Mosaddeq in Iran in '53, and haven't stopped complaining since 1979 about 'extremists' being in power, a totally fucked up foreign policy if you ask me. Not to mention their unstinting support of Israel's mistreatment of the Palestinians. Also the maxim you quoted, 'prepare for war', not carry it out!!

9/11? No that was a terrorist attack, whose perpetrators should have been pursued by the police, rather than the military invading two countries that had nothing to do with it.

Can you name a major country whose foreign policy is not intended to be self-serving?

The Americans do like their military interventions more than most but that's because they can and it's 'Diplomacy by other means.'

Post WW2 was nothing like the start of it - there's the Spanish-American War ('Remember The Maine!') and check out what they did in Haiti. Cuba was a puppet state until Castro, in Panama they only gave up the Canal Zone a few years back.

I would say that it is those in the US military industrial complex, congress (and NATO) who prefer military interventions and profit from the death, destruction and then convenient rebuilding that like it... most citizens, with family members that are deployed or die in such, do not. With exposure we/they are learning/have learned. This past election's outcome was an overt stab at that and those people.

For others, what wars were started under Trump's last term? How many were started during the Biden/Harris term?

Hmmmm... a call for censorship...

True intolerance, totalitarianism and facism is when only one view is allowed to be voiced, heard or considered. Anyone
who does not align with the running narrative is "politically incorrect". We do know the origins of that term, do we
not... This is one of the many reasons why Americans voted the way they did. Spit nails and spew green goo if you want
to. It is ironic but not surprising that those who shouted against this the most...are actively practicing it. Smh
(shaking my head) as the young ones would text.

How many posts in are we? Have you hit that ignore button yet?

You're making light of the very destructive US foreign policy post WW2 with meaningless counterfactuals. No other state has unleashed so much firepower on South East Asia or the middle east, even though the US is about 5000 miles away, hardly within its 'sphere of influence'. The US obsession with communism was unhinged, and just plain wrong. All the time they should have been encouraging it, because look at China, having in the 1980s discovered that making stuff and selling it to the world was better than crackpot state planning, now America's biggest enemy according to the foreign policy wonks.

Your view of the US acting without the cooperation, consorting, conspiring and support (monetarily and otherwise) of many other players, including key persons/groups in your own country, is amusing at best. Encouraging communism?

Let me know when you have taken up permanent residence in a communist country. At least, you obviously do have a grasp on meaningless comments.

Yeh there was Saddam, an ally in the 80s when he was fighting a war with Iran, in which the US helped him build WMD, before that of course there was Iran, in which the US helped the Shah with nuclear technology. later the US fought a war with Iraq, or I should say in Iraq (it was a one sided affair), in which they sought those non existent WMD which they had previously helped him to build. Ahem, excuse me here while I go down the rabbit hole of US foreign policy, which relies largely on an uninformed demos, and then of course later in Iran, worrying about that bomb that it's apparently building..............Oh, did you know the US performed a coup d'etat against the only hope Iran ever had of a secular liberal leader in 1953?

Not making light of anything but you're talking about countries like they were one person, I don't see it that way.

For unleashing firepower in south-east asia read up on the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979.

The middle east has some of the world's largest oil reserves, America don't intervene there because they put a pin in the map blindfolded.

We're seeing the same things but ascribing totally different motivations.

There are many motivations, yes oil has been a big factor in the middle east, the US took up the mantle from Britain, and courted Ibn Saud in WW2. But also the Jewish vote in the US steered their hand, and helped create the state of Israel, which has caused no end of conflict since, and which is now seemingly reaching some sort of end game. The US apparently sees itself as the 'indispensable nation' whose right to be world policeman is a given, hence its disregard for int. law and the UN, usually along with Israel. The Saudis along with is OPEC partners practically destroyed the Western economies in 1973 because of US and UK support for Israel.

I still don't see that there's anything exceptional about U,S foreign policy. They act in their interests just like everyone else does.

Personally I think America is our natural ally both economically and militarily and we should be moving closer to them rather than criticising them. Regardless of who the President is. When it comes to this sort of thing I think you have to be pragmatic. In geopolitics the idealists get screwed.

I think it's to ignore particular members. If you click 'Settings' at the top of the page, then looking down the left side look for 'Edit ignore list', you can then enter which member. I think that will be it, I've never used it.

If I don't see a reply to this from you, I'll assume you've found it :D

WOStanton,
Would appreciate a response to the questions I asked earlier, as you are the Thread starter.
Feel free not to answer, I'm not your Mother :)

Can't get my head around the cognitive Dissonance of following somebody so demonstrably (and proven in Court): Amoral, self serving, narcassasistic, an obviously corrupt Grifting Con Man.
(Not to mention his close connections to Epstein and Rape Conviction)

Especially how self described Christians in America have embraced him?
What's the Kool Aid they are drinking, I just don't get it?

Is Donald Trump just the Dstraction?
A Carnival Barker sleight of handing against the bigger game the Elon Musks, Stephen Millers (and their financial backers around the World) are attempting?

Is it that Folks are blind to it, make excuses for it, getting their giggles from "Sticking it to the Libs or now finding something they can hang their grievances on?
"Its all THEIR fault I'm in the situation I'm in, Donald Trump describes my Struggle and understands!"
Really?

Or are folks just bored and entitled?

As someone who supports him and has voted for him, can you shed any light?

"For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."

"Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold."

I actually started this thread to prove a point. And that, was a raving success; certain members calling for the moderators, others running for the ignore button. Those who've spent years shouting for tolerance and inclusion grabbing the closest pitchfork. This, sadly, is where things are at in this modern world.

There is not a true interest in discovering facts. Facts are shouted down. Facts are dismissed and declared lies. Citizen journalists are considered unworthy to be taken seriously. And your questions (often called "leading questions") have their own answers. No, you are most certainly not my mother. I think we're all happy about that.

Proven in court... but was it a kangaroo court? Have you investigated every aspect of the proceedings? Were there irregularities? Were there a number of "coincidences"? Did everyone from the District Attorneys to the Judge have links to persons they perhaps should not have? Was there legal precedent for the cases brought? Did you actually investigate his relationship with Epstein and why his relationship was terminated? Why he never actually flew/visited Epstein island? Have you ever questioned the timing of the indictments? What you provided were nothing but MSM talking points; all of it, verbatim. How do you control public thought? Public discourse? Public opinion? I can tell you how the CIA did after the Warren Commission... label people "conspiracy theorists".

Your words: "self-described Christians, Kool Aid drinking, Carnival Barker, bored, entitled" etc. etc. All negative predispositions, prejudice and predeterminations...

If you never met your father and all your mother told you was that he was a man-whore and a druggie and refuse to consider that there might be another angle or other people who knew him otherwise, you will forever believe your mother...even if in error. The choice is yours to make. MSM is, perhaps your mother. Other sources perhaps are different. Are you willing to face the possibility that your shaped conceptions of any given issue could be partially or wholly incorrect? If not, there is no point in anyone attempting to change your mind. I have no obligation to do so. The older I get the more I am content to let things play out. I don't even look for opportunities to say "I told you so". I am more content to listen to that small still voice that says, "Look behind the curtain." The older I get, all I want is wisdom, pray for it, ask for it, I do.

"Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:
She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.
Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:
For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:
They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."

What I see here is (most) members having a go at Trump (with good reason imo), and one member who defends him by making it all personal. There is never going to be any agreement here, so the whole thing looks kind of pointless.

Whether Trump's presidency proves to be our salvation, a disaster or just business as usual, only time will tell. I have a feeling that nothing much will change, and Trump and his followers will blame it on opposing forces thwarting his efforts.

Let's be honest. The other thread was a character assassination of any American who voted for Trump. That thread was fully intended to be personal. And, it was in fact, directed at some (likely) 80 to 100 million Americans. Daft move. Even more daft to assume those millions of people are all just ignorant wanks. That is the very definition of self-absorbed with a heightened sense of self-importance and self-righteousness, need I say arrogant. If that is someone's stance, they should full on expect blow back. When that blow back comes, they want to cry foul. It would be humorous if it wasn't so inane. Again, those millions of Americans are no longer inclined to let that poop slide.

Nevertheless, if you are referring to me, it's not personal. The question was, "Why would someone vote for Trump?", albeit it was asked with stupefaction insinuating those that would answer could not possibly come up with credible reasons...because it was a forgone conclusion by the interrogator that no answer could be credible. LOL. I answered the question and the irritation that I did not acquiesce to the OP's viewpoint was an obvious rude awakening, minds exploding (pop, pop, pop, kaboom). LOL.

Trump was already President for 4 years. Fact. To the most incredulous... Did you die?? Were you even prevented from speaking out about such? In the case of several other sordid organizations and organized groups of people, did it prevent you from rioting, looting, breaking a myriad of laws and still somehow sucking the government teat? Nope. Ya did all those things. If Trump even puts a small dent in any of that, good on him. Kudos and bravo.

I agree. Time will tell. We shall see.

Demons and reprobates are big mad, screaming and running for cover. Is that supposed to be a bad thing...

As the 'Other Threads' originator,

I want to offer some perspective to your view on the reasons behind me taking the time to create that Thread.
I.e. Why I started it.

Take my view as someone being honest with you, or don't.
Your opinion is your opinion, and I don't care to try to change that.
So Peace Man.

Here's my comment, Straight from the horses ass :)

First of all,
Please don't hijack what I said directly about Trump to suit a particular point of view, or what I said about Trump to reflect on anyone that voted for him.

That's a false equivalency, I meant nothing of the sort

Just another Man's point of view, no offence meant....
But I kinda feel sorry for you guys that have been (in my opinion) been duped.
This 'Fake News' narrative is rhe Opposite of what you say it is.

That's no reflection on anyone personally.

I'm assuming you know what your doing...discussion wise, so you know exactly what your typing, and it's intended effect.
We all want to 'win' arguments... I get that

I feel for the working Joe that voted for Trump, I really do.
Fuck around and find out, those working/middle class MAGA folks are about to find out. (Sadly)

Look at every Contractor, Loan Guaranteur and anyone that's has dealings with Trump and how they have been stiffed.
Trump is playing the system, he's a (convicted) Con Man.

You a Fan of The American Dream?
What does.that mean for you, your Family?
Is Donald Trump the person to deliver that for all Americans?

Or is he something else?

Seriously Man,
Have a think.

No gripe with you personally, I'm sure I'd enjoy a beer with you.
But this Fucker isn't on your Side.

Coming from the angle that politicians should be instructed, know their stuff, lead by example and based their judgement on facts...

*I only need to listen 5 mins to Donald Trump to know he is the antithesis of a good politician or a leader full stop.

* The guy lies all the time and contradicts himself. No one knows if he will implement any of his policies.
* He thinks that he knows it all, better than the experts (so many quotes but injecting bleach in people’s body was one of the worse)
* He is a vector of disinformation for his own political gain (Haitian in USA legally being called illegal aliens eating pets of fellow citizens).
* He is ignorant and loves to take other’s achievements as his own (his is the father of IVF while he did not know anything on the topic)
* I could go on, and on. Is that the new standard for politicians?

All the above would be laughable if 70M+ had not voted for him this year or if the 6-Jan 2020 did not happen!

Well USA, you have the leader that you deserve!

Good luck!

Still you can't be going round making false claims without some retribution. Makes me wonder how much the alleged pet-eating Haitian immigrants could screw out of Trump, Vance, Musk et al if they could get together and stump up for competent representation.

$15M? That's a nice payday :) Probably only possible when you can afford the best lawyers though.

Still you can't be going round making false claims without some retribution. Makes me wonder how much the alleged pet-eating Haitian immigrants could screw out of Trump, Vance, Musk et al if they could get together and stump up for competent representation.

Agreed.

$15M is a lot of money but not as much as the almost $800M that Fox News had to pay to Dominion for covering up for Trump’s lies about the 2020 elections! [emoji1787]

Many other lawsuits from the voting systems companies against right wings media, including a pending $2.7B (that’s correct) from Smartmatic against Fox News…

Is this Thread you started still just out to take the Piss and “call people out”?
(EDIT: Did you remove that reference from the start of this thread - Where is it?)

More is at stake here than “owning the Libs”
Your Government was almost shut down, on the say of Musk pouring ideas into Trump’s damaged brain.
Thats serious, it affected Veterans and those reliant on Government Services.

But hey,
If Musk and Trump were happy to try and shut down a Bill that aided 9/11 First Responders and Cancer Research for children, why should they care about anyone else?
Trumps already been found guilty of taking money from a Children’s Cancer Charity, so this isn’t new for him.

in other News,
Baron Von Shitzenpants is now trying to claim ownership of the Panama Canal, Greenland, and putting pressure on Canada to be (His words) the 51st State.

MAGA folk like yourself are exactly the mark these “domestic Enemies Within” are relying on.
Think the Constitution warns about this.

You knew this since you were a Kid?
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,"

Just saying,
It either mattered or it didn't.

All those with views opposed to the OP have this in common: through their common interest in hifi and music they all regularly contribute on any subject they may feel is of interest to other members, and provide help and advice where needed. This is a community after all.

Whereas you do not. Your sole purpose appears to be to wind everybody up. Prove me wrong, tell us about your system, your music tastes, even how your day has been! :) Because outside of all the Trump/anti-Trump nonsense we are probably more similar than different.

Exsqueeze me. Did you lapse and forget the origin? You didn't seem to have a problem with the thread below.

https://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?78194-TRUMP-Oh-my-fucking-God

This double standard thing keeps rearing it's ugly head. Who was accused of taking the piss there...or worse, just plain being rudely confrontational?

I have been a member since 2011. Do your due diligence. Prove yourself wrong. Your accusation has no merit.

But, I agree whole-heartedly, we are more similar than different. Some of us prefer not to act (speak) like it though and that is disappointing, preferring instead to talk down their nose and make disparaging posts and comments about those who do not think/believe the way they do. Sad state of affairs, init. Shock and horror to think that someone might not actually drink mainstream media Kool Aid and have the audacity to form and express their own thoughts.

Let me get it straight...as long as I hate Trump and fall in step with someone else's political preferences...everything is cool... Do you hear yourself? Bullies hate it when they run into someone who is not a shrinking violet.

By the way, I am having a wonderful day. In fact, I'm on vacation for the next two weeks...but alas, that's not what this thread, or the other one is about, is it.

Donald Trump’s bottomless bottom:

* Matt Gaetz’ ethics committee report released…. Statutory rape of under age girls, prostitution & drug abuse… The best pick in the country to be the US AG?! He surely has a great support in Trump who must understand what he’s been through!

* Elon Musk’s failure to try to bully the Congress and Trump failure in his wish to abolish the debt ceiling to give more tax cut for the billionaires or/and increase the abyssal US debts his has contributed to raise by 25% during his tenure, almost leading to an historic Government shutdown.

* Teasing US expansion into Panama, Greenland and Canada … Already pissing off allies.

* Trying to rewrite history and wants to send to jail the members of the J6 committee who mainly interviewed Trump’s own staffs who confirmed what he did or did not do that day. There is no conspiracy from the democrats who were not in power when Trump was president + a FBI director named by Trump himself!

* Trump won in 2024, hence he did not claim the election was rigged but still go after the forecasters predicting he would lose … what the hell!? Dictator?!

Trump’s transition for his second term in office has so far been a series of humiliations and failures!

I expected no less from the man! What would be tomorrow’s new low?

America has taken a 12 gauge and blown both its feet off.
Not about you nor anyone else personally.

Trump is a convicted Felon, compromised by Putin and (as it turns out) Elon Musk, the richest man in the world.
Like yourself, he's an easy mark.
Genuinely, no offence meant, whatever Jim Jones level stuff this is, it's one for the History books.

Problem is,
Trump.has the nuclear codes, and hes compromised, so it concerns the fuck out of me.

But yeah Man, Merry Christmas.
Genuinely.

Christmas though?
Aside a reason to break bread with other folks, friends and family, and be happy together...

Has a historical basis:
The Christian celebration of Christmas was invented by Romans as a way to co-opt and tame the raucous pagan holiday of Saturnalia

We get to choose what we take from that and apply it to our own lives.
We DON'T get to tell other people what they should think or should believe.

Peace Man,
Merry Christmas.

...still trying to dehumanize Americans. America is its citizens. I am one of those citizens. A child could understand this. Dehumanizing is a mechanism to cast aspersions on people...without looking them in the eye. It is disingenuous. No one is fooled by that. Foolish, flagrantly foolish analogy (as someone who owns/uses firearms including 12 ga. shotguns). Amazing how people who deride Americans on their 2nd Amendment rights are so flippant with gun analogies (not to mention enamored with gun violence in video games, tv and movies). It's not a joke. You do NOT want to be shot...with any firearm. No. The majority of Americans did no such thing. They voted for the person they feel will lead the country in the direction they want it to go. If you are going to call millions of people a bunch of bloody wankers...just own it.

Trump... just more of the same talking points... many already disproven and/or proven to be outright hatchet jobs by his adversaries... and they are numerous; people who like American tax payers money flowing into their pockets, don't want that train disrupted. But, they have and are being exposed. For many that gravy train has or is ending. For some that is going to mean jail time/GITMO. For others, that means treason. The penalty for treason in the USA is STILL...death. Not my opinion. Nor do I go around committing treason. Funny how, Biden is pardoning people for the very things they are accusing Trump of doing. Mark my words, the ending is not going to be fun for some.

Laughable, phony indignance. You are correct. You DON'T get to tell people what they should think or should believe. And, it is FOOLISH to claim that CHRISTmas isn't about Christ Jesus. Believe what you want. CHRISTians (that is to say Christ Jesus followers) celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus on CHRISTmas day, regardless of whether it was his actual birth date or not. Easter was pagan, too. Nevertheless, CHRISTians choose to celebrate the resurrection of Christ Jesus on Easter, regardless of the origins of the holiday. This is not anything new. What's with you? Do you not know, that I know who I am speaking to?

This is the problem today. People think they can create their own realities. LOL!!! As you say, personal realities will not matter if someone shoots you with a 12 ga. shotgun!? The inanity of woke think has been an abominable permeation, especially during Biden/Harris administration. The majority of Americans just said "No." <<<--- Talk about facts.

Whether you like it or not, Trump is President Elect of The United States of America. Need I say that again...whether you like it or not...Trump is President Elect of The United States of America. You can cry. You can rant. You can piss. You can moan. You can spew vitriol. You can tear your clothes. You can repeat talking points ad nauseum. You can shave the hair off your head. You can abstain from sexual relations. You can poop in your own hands and clap. It does not change a thing. Donald J. Trump has once again been elected President of The United States of America by the overwhelming majority of it's citizens.

By the way, as if you didn't know, Trump had the nuke codes from 2016 to 2020. Did you die?? No, seriously...did you die?? Were you even anywhere remotely in jeopardy of dying from him pushing the red button. And, was it you who was going to be disappointed if he didn't end the Ukraine conflict on your timeline? (or, was that Pigmy, I forget) So, this person, who was the US president known to NOT start any wars during his term in office is the person you are afraid of using the nuke codes. Baffling. I will say, if he actually does turn out to be the anti-Christ and hastens prophecy...I still win. There's no downside, a better America (good) or eternity with Christ Jesus my savior (better); literally no downside. Well, unless blithering idiots (more so, those determined to destroy America) get elected in 2028. Maybe I can move to Canada then and live next to Barbara Streisand. I heard she's moving there now that Trump got elected. She did expatriate, right? Life comes at ya quick.

Right back atcha...
May the Holy Spirit come upon you, bruva.
Merry Christmas

I keep all my comments Sir.

You cannot believe in election integrity only when you win!

Your master (and maybe you) lied about the 2020 election being stolen. Despite trying to rewrite history, this insurrection will remain Trump’s legacy forever.

He will have to work hard to remove this stain but, based on the daily dramas, it’s unlikely to get any better [emoji6]

Seen through the filter of Vladimir Putin it maybe does.

Particularly with references to Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Also, Alaska is on the border with Russia, less than 3 miles apart at the Bering Strait. (You can literally see Russia from Alaska)

He’s saying it out loud, as he has done from the beginning.
He’s to be taken at his word, such as it is.

14th Amendment.
NOW.

I predict the GOP will eat themselves alive in the early months of 2025, when Musk crosses the line.
Problem is everyone else will suffer,
particularly those in the US, especially middle and working class folks.

Contesting the results of U.S Presedential elections isn't a new thing. The first incident of it predates the birth of Trump by 122 years:

''Contested elections in American history at the presidential level involve serious allegations by top officials that the election was "stolen." Such allegations appeared in 1824, 1876, 1912, 1960, 2000, and 2020. Typically, the precise allegations change over time.''

''Jackson cried foul, believing the election was stolen by a "corrupt bargain" between Adams and Clay. He ran again and defeated Adams in 1828, using partisan rhetoric that Robert V. Remini says was, "almost totally devoid of truth."'

Plus ca change.

He just can’t decide to take it back.

That’s delusional, and given its importance potentially dangerous.

I don't think he has any intention of taking it back. That wouldn't be realistic either politically or militarily.

He's just saying that they shouldn't have given it up in the first place. It gets likes and he doesn't have to do anything except say words.

Contesting the elections is one thing. This can be achieved via the legal process. Lying then raising an insurrection because Mister is doing his tantrum Trump is another!

It's not really a question of motives. His motive is he's Trump. It's a question of what he wants to do, which I suspect isn't much, and what of that he can actually do, which isn't a lot. It's certainly none of the things being suggested on this thread.

There was literally the “dictionary definition” of an Insurrection on the Capitol, on January 6th 2021
https://i.imgur.com/w895FIv.png

I watched it live on air, as it played out.

People were killed and maimed, the Crowd was chanting to Hang the Vice President because he didn’t certify the votes for Trump.
All the while Trump was tweeting about Mike Pence “doing the right thing” and whipping up his Crowd, knowing full well what he was doing.

Nobody should normalise or gaslight this.

Stunning absence of logic and double talk...

How many millions of guns and American gun owners (who are pro 2nd amendment which means Trump supporters because Biden/Harris stand against gun rights) reside in America? And yet, for a "full blown" insurrection... the only shooting death was by a guard in the Capitol against someone with no firearm from behind a door... Again, laughable. If that massive of an American crowd actually wanted to take over the Capitol... they would have brought firearms, a lot of them and massive amounts of readily available ammunition. Many even reload their own casings (I do). There would indeed have been a "bloodbath". The Capitol would have been riddled with bullets. But... it wasn't... Do you know why? Right. Because it was not an insurrection. Much of that was staged and the proof is in the video tape. More people get shot to death every weekend in Chicago (a DS, uni-party ruled city) than got shot and killed throughout the entire course of "J6". But, you'll have to go beyond the (desired) media talking points to get a grip on that.

Guns are not a requirement to meet the definition of an Insurrection.
Kamala Harris (and her VP pick) both made a point of saying they were gun owners and supported the 2nd Amendment.

Also,
One needless death is one too many, that could have been your Wife, Sister or Mother.

2ND AMENDMENT
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

It’s the “Well Regulated” part some Folks seem to not get to grips with.
Hence school shooting folks quoting their “Right to Bear Arms”

The only person shot was one of the 'rebels' who ignored repeated instructions to stop trying to break into a barricaded room.

I asked you if you thought that there was any chance that the incident could have resulted in the overthrow of the U.S government, and you avoided that question. So I'm assuming your answer would be 'No'. So how was it in any way an insurrection?

How could it possibly have panned out to - what? Trump refuses to leave the White House and declares himself dictator? And the whole U.S military and all the law enforcement agencies just say 'Yes okay, we'll go along with that.' Because that's what it would take.

Sorry Gaz but I really cannot take seriously the idea that the U.S system of government or the Constitution was ever under any threat whatsoever from this. It really isn't worth discussing any further.

Whilst I agree that the Capitol hill riot was more of a mass tantrum than an insurrection or attempted coup (that usually involves having the military on board), there are signs that it might a taste of things to come. This time around it seems, might well be different. I mean we've already had the overturning of Wade vs Roe, which has set back women's right 50 years, that was Trump's, ahem, baby.

I have already answered your question… The insurrection from outside and within (I.e. fake electors) could have resulted in an overthrow of the government if Mike Pence had gone along with the plan, hence why his life was in danger!

When asked, JD Vance said that he would not have done the same, hence would have caused an institutional crisis, which could have discarded millions of votes.

Democracy won this time because a few did not bend to Trump’s will. Now that he is surrounded by loyalists, what would be the future? The slow burn of getting rid of the guardrails and institutions have started. This is reflected in the various people put forward as part of Trump’s transition + the Supreme Court decisions.

Democracy rely on people doing the right things and on institutions! You should maybe read about how Victor Orban took over the power in Hungary and turned it into an autocracy. Did not happen overnight!

Why does a woman have rights? Why should a foetus not have rights? How did these rights happen? Are we born with them? No. They are created by law and then that law has to be enforced for it to mean anything.

I cannot believe what I am reading!

Why anyone (men and women)have rights in this case? We should maybe go back to the beginning of time? Non sense!

To be serious: in most scenarios, a child is based on a decision of a man and a woman, not just a woman.

In some scenarios, the woman should not be forced to carry a foetus to term… because of rape or maybe she could die due to complications.

Maybe men should be forced to take their responsibilities when they get someone pregnant?!

Is the life of a foetus more valuable than his mother’s?

It is laughable that in USA where there is regular mass killings due the lack of regulation on fire arms, people not being protected by universal healthcare like in Europe, or Trump wanting to get rid of the Dept of education …. They want people to have more unwanted kids that they would struggle with due t little help from the government. Such a paradox!

Police officers have been injured or killed in many demonstrations dating back hundreds of years all over the world. Of course it's regrettable that anyone should die in such circumstances but it's not an unprecedented event that has only happened with the coming of Trump, so I don't see why that's relevant to a discussion about Trump?

I'd argue that Trump didn't actively incite what happened - he was fine with there being a demo but then politicians don't ever discourage demos in their favour.

Did he tell them to break into the Capitol building? Or assault anyone? I don't think he did. Demos getting out of hand happens. Look at the Kent State incident. Far worse situation, nothing remotely comparable to that has happened due to Trump.

But you can't cherry pick one incident of someone being killed or injured in a political demo and claim it's unprecedented when it clearly isn't.

There's many rational reasons why Trump isn't a good choice for President but I'm not seeing them on this thread. It's all appeals to emotion - 'Someone died!'

Despite that he gets re-elected anyway.

Different strategy required, otherwise there's going to be another Trump waiting in wings to step right in in 4 years time.

All of the states that have introduced more stringent abortion laws still allow abortion in incidents of rape or if the health of the mother will be endangered if carrying to term.

This is not practically correct …

* Texas abortion laws as an example are restrictive and prohibit almost all abortions, with some exceptions such as if the life or health of the patient is at risk. However, the law is written in an ambiguous way, and Republican lawmakers have rejected attempts to clarify exceptions resulting in people dying or going to other states to get health care.

* Alabama's abortion laws are strict and prohibit almost all abortions, with only a few exceptions … Abortion is only allowed if the pregnant person's health or life is in serious danger. However, the law's vague language makes it difficult for abortion providers to interpret resulting in several women dying due lack of care.

Fact is Trump would never have got elected if they hadn't put Clinton up against him. And he wouldn't have got in again if they'd accepted that Mumblin' Joe was no longer playing with a full deck and selected another candidate who was old, male and looked like a safe pair of hands - which is why Biden beat Trump in 2020.

Trump's in there again only because of the incompetence of the opposition, and really that is not difficult to fix.

None of these laws have actually been tested to date though so you can't say how that will pan out and how the wording will be construed. No doubt if one is then we will hear about it.

The people who live in the state get the laws they want. That's democracy. Are we going to fixate on that or on the numerous other countries where women have no rights at all and there is no democracy at all?

Or are we only attacking a handful of American states because they're a safe target?

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick here + see laws detached from people’s life. Maybe if it was your wife, daughters or sisters impacted and dying, this would become more real?!

Why compare to other countries? Maybe you could go and live in another part of the world without universal healthcare and die of a simple pneumonia or flu. If this is your choice, feel free to move there but don’t choose for others!

Unfortunately, people living in those countries don’t have what we take for granted but could well go away like in the USA where women see this decision as a step back on rights they had fought for years …

No-one is going to die due to this change in law so let's not get melodramatic here.

For what it's worth I can see both sides of the argument on this particular subject. But my view is that if that is how people of another state in another country want to play it, that's their business, not mine. I've no interest in crusading for the general principle, or worse, moving into virtue signalling.

If they were going to change the law in this country then I might take more interest in it.

No idea what you mean by moving to another country? My point was women in many other countries face far worse issues than having to travel to another state to have an abortion.

If you are going to crusade for women's rights, maybe start with them and move onto Texas and Alabama once you've redressed the more extreme cases?

I'll also point out that there are a lot of women in favour of stricter abortion laws, so to portray it as a general attack on women, as some form of misogyny, is disingenuous.

Martin,
I never claimed people being attacked was “Unprecedented”, or that was the main point of what I was saying.
although an attack on the Capitol by a mob to protest the Peaceful Transition of Power after an Election, where people lost their lives, had never happened before.

So now I’m thinking about it, it WAS Unprecedented.

Also,
we’re talking about Trump, not some unrelated situation, so keeping it relevant to this Thread.

And yes,
people died.

Shouldn’t one needless death be Too many?
People say “But it’s only 1 or 2…”

Is ten enough to do something about it?
100, 500?

where’s the line?

In that case there's nothing more we can say about it, since I simply cannot grasp how you can come to that conclusion.

You understand that to erode the checks and balances the Constitution would need to be changed? As far as I am aware the only people currently lobbying to change the Constitution are on the 'left.'

Or people just subvert it, or ignore it completely, which is what is happening.

There cannot be a 'national ban' due to State's rights. I dispute that any women have died as a result unless you can cite?

In my own case if there was someone I cared about facing this situation I'd ensure that she got the outcome that she wanted regardless of my own personal views - or what the law was, for that matter.

I don't actually think we disagree that much about Trump. I don't think he is a good thing. My point is that it is not an effective strategy to rely on 'What ifs' and exaggerated or fabricated claims to fight it. That's counter productive - and that's demonstrable.

Happy listening!

Women mortality:

A national ban: hope you are right but, as I said, democracy depends on the will of people doing the right things. This will be tested in the years to come. Democracy has not been the normal in human’s history, hence worth fighting for on every fronts …

I am not a political strategist but believe in integrity and facts. The historians will have to qualify the J6 2020 events for what they are. I would then have to agree with them. Would you?

Trump has been the master of the lies and misinformations as never seen before in US politics. The issue is that this could be the new norm around the world, hence we need to be prepared for what is coming.

I think that if your worst fears are borne out then I agree it will be regarded as something of a stepping stone or portent.

If they're not - and I don't think for one second they will be - then it will be nothing more than a footnote in history.

Trump is indeed a master of self-promotion, I'd suggest that's his only skill. But again, he's not unprecedented in that, even if we confine it to just U.S politics.

You keep saying that so many women are opposed to abortion. Could you share your stats?

In the USA, a 2024 poll shows that a majority of women (63%) support abortion.

The same studies show 33% of women are identified as pro life. It does represent many women but not the majority!

Therefore the Pro life movement and the anti abortion restrictions have been decided against the majority of women.

The pro life movement has always been a minority in the US, hence the violent rhetorics, acts and enforcement on a state by state level as the Red states are more likely to pass an abortion ban!

The point of the article, was there seems to be an agenda from the hard right against Womens rights, and it can be seen in a lot of the batshit rhetoric about this being flung about.

Even if some Right Wing Female politicians are on board with it, doesn't demean or reduce any persons rights, Whether they be animal vegatable or mineral - male or female.
Cruelty seems to be the point, to set the narrative.
Which is my point.

If a woman is anti abortion, thats her right. As it is for those that a Pro.

I never said it was a majority- I think you're missing the point. If misogyny was the reason that people are against abortion, there would be no females against abortion. How can a woman be a misogynist?

The reason these sort of accusations (see also - racist, bigot) are deployed so readily by some is to try to avoid a reasoned debate in which the flaws in their position would be exposed.

And also a lack of education in general.

Clearly people are opposed to abortion for a variety of reasons, in the case of some males it may be due to misogyny. I don't dispute that. But there are a lot of other reasons that are perfectly valid, whether you or I personally agree with them or not.

Bullcrap. Women are dying if they are stupid and unmotivated...not atypical and exemplified by the clips provided.

No, Mike's anger is not justified.

1. Like I said, in the case of rape and/or life of the mother...cross a state line if you have to. No one is standing in your way (and many pro-life states have those exceptions, anyway). And, don't wait until the child has a head and one arm popping out. It's not difficult. And, if none of the other so joyful pro-choicers will not help you cross a state line, what does that say about the "unity" of that group of people. Maybe call up Kamala to bring along an abortion truck. If you want to keep and raise a child or rape, so be it. If the mother wants to risk her life to save the child, so be it.

2. If you're not using abortion as "irresponsible human contraception" THEN YOU DAMN WELL KNEW YOU WERE ENGAGING IN AN ACTIVITY WHICH VERY WELL COULD END UP IN CONCEPTION/PREGNANCY. You rolled the dice and you lost. Your irresponsibility just bit you in the bum. Now, you want an easy way out at the expense of an unborn child. That is the very height of selfishness and self-absorbed. The problem is that many people shun accountability. It is always someone else's fault. Rubbish. Own it. You did it. No one's fault but your own. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. That's all this is. Adult children running around having tantrums screaming "It's their fault! It's their fault!" Bullcrap... IT'S YOUR FAULT. And you, as I, will answer for everything we do. Period. Never is there a thought that... hmmmm... maybe I shouldn't Fool Around so I don't Find Out. Maybe I should seek wisdom and employ wisdom. No. Just a head long rush into idiocy, bad choices, foolishness and destruction. How's that working out?? (rhetorical question)

Gosh, it's uncanny. It's just like Jesus posted here on AoS. We are not worthy.

More bullcrap.

Which Jesus... The Savior? Or, the one who whipped the money changers and told them in no uncertain terms to get out of His Father's house?

Here's the kicker. He is one and the same.

Christ only told one of the criminals hanging that he would be with Him in paradise. Which one was it? The arrogant, unapologetic one...or the one who acknowledged his wrong doing and need to repent? I'll wait..

Are people only okay with Him when He's little baby Jesus, sweet innocent, and demands nothing from them?

I see... it's only when He requires that we... shock, horror... turn from sin and unrighteousness that there's a problem.

Gotcha... only pull the pieces of Christianity/the Bible that suit us and our lifestyle. Be a Christian on our own terms, not God's. Love people straight to hell.

Sarcasm noted. Sarcasm dismissed. No longer care about veiled insults. And no, according to The Word of God...no one...is worthy, all have sinned and fallen short. Use that as an excuse or use it as an impetus. The choice is up to each individual. Not everyone is Christian. Spoiler alert... I have no problem with that. I only have to answer for myself.

My previous comments about other matters as discussed in this thread stand. I make zero apologies (just like the others who post). I retract nothing.

Yup,
Agenda free discussion is always good, even when folks disagree, and this is a friendly place.

Not a particularly religious person here, or in fact_AT_ALL
but my "belief" is you dont have to be Religious to be a good person.

For those that are, and playing along at home, a little reminder:

Wasn't it the Biblical Jesus who said
"Judge not, lest Ye be judged?

(Quote)
Matthew 7:1-5
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Many "Christians" (not all) I've came across seem to use their beliefs as a kind of bullet proof vest to feel superior to others.
Not a good look.

You are completely disconnected from reality man!

A few facts and stats….

(1) More than half of the abortions are performed on women in their 20s
(2) 72% of abortion patients have low incomes
(3) 86% of abortion patients are unmarried
(4) Women of colour are more likely to have an abortion than white women.
(5) Any woman may have an abortion following complications during pregnancy or when giving birth.

* First, you might have the funds to get your wife, daughter or sister to another state if they need a procedure but the bulk of the women (1, 2, 3, 4 above) who require an abortion may not have the money to go to another state + may not have the support (I.e. family or partner/bf).

* Second, for the women in the category (5) above, you cannot tell them to go to another state when their live maybe at risk… although they would have received better care in pro choice states or not died from complications…

Panels in states that have recently imposed strict bans on abortion have done little to uncover whether the laws are contributing to maternal deaths, including tracking delays in care for pregnancy complications and making these problems known.
Good read from a trusted source: https://www.propublica.org/article/abortion-bans-deaths-state-maternal-mortality-committees

* Third, you said that it’s women’s fault if they get pregnant. Don’t you think men who get them pregnant are responsible also?

STILL waiting for you to address how conception/pregnancy occurs outside of rape.

You don't want to address that because you hate the elephant in the room: PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY. No woman walks down the street (aside from rape) and gets attacked by the mystery ghost of random impregnation. Say it... ...consensual sexual intercourse. Go on... say it.

Nope. If it was HER body, HER choice after she got pregnant (aside from rape) then it was HER body, HER choice before she got pregnant. Can't have it both ways UNLESS of course one again is trying to EVADE PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY. Or, are you trying to say all woman who come up pregnant are inherently weak of will with no choice in the matter and destined to open their legs with the facial expression of some 50's Hollywood pin up whenever a man says "open unto me". It is amazing how (some) feminists ride that fence. Don't they get chaffed? Poor guy. HIS body, no choice before the birth/abortion and HIS body, no choice if the child is birthed. The double-speak is absolutely phantasmagorical.

The best things some of these lunatics have done was declare war on men, closed their legs and shaved their heads. Now we don't have to worry about nitwit "men" and "women" copulating and having kids they won't raise and subsequently the kids won't become personal accountability evading nutjobs just like their parents.

Not a good look.

If (some) people only understood what they were reading.

Does everyone judge, everyday? Absolutely. Do people make judgment calls, everyday? Absolutely. Should they? Absolutely. It is a matter of survival. There is a chasm of difference between "judging" someone's soul, where they will or won't end up and DISCERNMENT. Those without discernment, the ability to "judge" any given situation even to the point of whether or not they should align themselves with a certain lifestyle and/or person and/or anything...is in for a hard road. Pulling a verse out of one's bum is easy. It is another thing entirely to pray for the wisdom to understand what you read in it's completeness.

The "Christian look" that says Christians should be mushy and nice and lovey dovey all the time and never offend anyone is proof that some people do not have the slightest clue what Christianity (Biblical Christianity) actual is, nor due the have a clue as to the true nature of God...but they would and could if they wanted to because it's all right there.

But, I agree, pulling verses and/or parts of verses is meaningless.

What I am not reading in the room is an answer to the question(s) asked. As in...

"STILL waiting for you (Berni) to address how conception/pregnancy occurs outside of rape."

But, deflection, redirection and diversion from topic come natural to people when they run into the brick wall of simple common sense and logic; start with the loud and angry, toss in veiled insults/character assassinations and then act offended and victimized when the baffling with (you know what) is exposed. Still waiting for you to get it. That is a large part of why Trump was elected a third time and will serve a second. The majority of Americans have had enough of that.

Again... see the title of the thread. Pathetic.

I suggested you read the room as your starting to come across somewhat bug eyed and Batshit crazy.
I was (genuinely) trying to help you out, but your arrogance here got in the way.

Your response was to make what I said about someone else then get insulting?
Deflection much?

Any response you've given here is insular, divisive and extremely opinionated. And insulting to others.
(at the expense of anyone else who may disagree with you).

Literally ZERO willingness to take on board, engage or even listen to anything others are saying.

THATS why people have these opinions about MAGA folks... maybe you get it now?
NOT because of misguided pre judgements, but because of what they DO and SAY.

You literally have reinforced every stereotype there is.
And thats on you.

I dont think your really looking for a discussion here, so I'll leave you to it.
The back and forth here has just reinforced my thoughts about Trump voters, which is a shame because I'd hoped for a better understanding from speaking with you.

This is very rich!

Well, if you cannot get why women … outside of rape, incest, complications during pregnancy or giving birth … could get pregnant & take the difficult decision for an abortion, I will not be able to help you much as you are a lost cause [emoji12]

A few leads though: people make mistakes, spur of the moment. the man not using protection, condoms broke, ineffective contraception … I could go on and on …

Should a woman commit her life giving birth to an unwanted child after a (sometime) less than five minutes mistake?

As I mentioned in one of my posts, in USA, it is pathetic that your pro life republican leaders & Trump don’t want additional restrictions on fire arms to prevent the recurring mass killing of kids in schools (USA is the worse of any developing countries on this topic), want to reduce healthcare benefits to millions or eliminate the department of education! These have an immediate impact on the mothers forced to keep babies they will struggle with or find dead in a school shooting!

Finally the nail in the coffin: according to your logic … smokers or drinkers developing cancers, people obese due to a bad diet, people having a car accident due to their own doing, … They all did it to themselves, deserve it and should not be helped or be offered a second chance?!. I am sure that you know someone impacted here so HOPE IT GETS TO TOWN [emoji6]

anyone else following this?

Cyber truck exploded outside Trump Motel in Las Vegas,

Highly decorated American Vet blew it up and left a Manifesto apparently.

Bit of an interesting metaphor with the Tesla truck going on here?

To answer your question is there a place on AoS for political discussion, yes there is, as witnessed by the thread you yourself started. All we ask is that such discussions and debates are done addressing the topic in question, without descending into name-calling or other ad hominem distractions.

Donald Trump will be sworn on the 20th, let's wait and see what happens after that.

Agree on all points, though some of those who took part in the discussion did make some ad hominem remarks.

I happen to agree in general with the views of both you and Bernie: the trouble lay with WOCStanton who simply put up biased YouTube clips which did little to support his argument. And when he did reply in text it was a highly emotional 'stream of consciousness' ramble.

KC offers him a coffee before he gets started, my pal thought this was a nice gesture so to make conversation he asks the KC how things are going for him. The bloke replies 'Very badly indeed I'm afraid.'

My pal assumed that this meant some death in the family or some other personal tragedy. It was only after a few minutes of conversation that he realised the man was talking about the Trump victory.

Like me, he really cannot understand how someone can take it so to heart. Especially someone living in another country.

Well, the US is not any other country. Is it?

The following global crisis I can think of were from the US:

* The OPEC oil price shock - 1973

Therefore, fears can be legitimate if you are not US based as we live in an open / global market.

I agree but then you can use the same argument about other countries too, and they don't attract the same level of attention - the war in Ukraine has had plenty of knock-on effects.

It's not so much that there aren't potential consequences of another Trump presidency - although I think they are over-exaggerated - it's more the emotional nature of the reaction. I think that stems from a perceived ideological difference between what Trump appears to stand for, and what the typical 'progressive' believes. They are actually angry and upset about Trump, and that baffles me.

This emotional, irrational attitude also appears to have badly clouded their strategy of opposing him. Calling him a liar and a crook hasn't worked, even if that description is not inaccurate.

And has enough sycophants, bandwagon jumpers and people who hang their own failures and prejudices on him to feed his narcissism.

Other countries are not The Most Powerful country in the world…

When the most powerful country in the world is lead by someone unpredictable, this can have a massive geopolitical and economic impact

These changes could also bring opportunities for EU to step up to counter balance the lack of US leadership. This could be an interesting outcome!

I don't view elected officials as 'leaders' or think there is any need for a 'leader' or 'leadership' in a democracy. Leaders are something I associate with communist and fascist regimes.

I appreciate the word is bandied about nowadays, but 'our leaders' it makes me laugh, it's such a weird perspective.

Well I still think this is all scaremongering, we already had 4 years of Trump, based on that I'd say he's very predictable, and very ineffectual. So this time I say it will be more of the same. I'll give odds if you like.

The argument of Trump having been already 4 years in the job is not really valid as he was contained by many people who worked for him then decided to resign or got fired. The same people did not support him in 2024 (I.e Mike Pence and many others)…

Trump has learnt from this and he is pushing other types of (crazy) candidates forward for key roles in his administration (Gaetz, Patel, …) + hood VP JD Vance…

The beast will be unleashed this time, hence his allegation of using military to take back the Panama Canal or Greenland.

This is the fear, he's surrounded himself with folks just as belligerent and bigoted as himself. I honestly can't believe America has allowed this to happen, why did the Republicans even let him represent them? I thought they (and the dems) were a business as usual party, not a major disrupter. This thread should be renamed 'Deranged Trump' not TD syndrome, after his recent rantings. I wonder does our American friend support the annexation of Canada, Greenland and the Panama canal? Will Trump actually attempt any of these things? I think not, but then why elect someone as president who shoots his mouth off in this way? It's all a bit insane. Forgetting about all the Canada/Greeenland/Panama canal nonsense, which I believe is pure hot air, there are enough real world potential flash points for Trump to ignite, the Russo-Ukraine war, and China. I keep reading rather foreboding stuff about US/China power politics, scary stuff, and with Trump at the helm, this could all escalate quickly. The danger to me is that he will let the worst excesses of US power rise, that is the military always loves a fight, but cooler heads - politicians - are there to temper that, but this time Trump will be leading the charge. We're literally in the closing scenes of Dr. Strangelove.

Yeah.

Sadly the two murders of Politicians in our country were by carried out by “our own” people, radicalised and incited to violent murder.
People are just people, wherever they are, and easily manipulated if they don’t see the fiend behind the green curtain, pulling the strings.
Question is: Why are they doing this?

Different ideologies, same intent.
One a right wing white suprematist, the other a radicalised son of Syrian parents.
Same outcome.

These people were radicalised into violence, they were encouraged by bad people to commit violence.

”Proud Boys, stand back and stand by”

https://youtu.be/QZYrxIKwkJk?si=W4fXyniR23XB_De-

Get the connection now, and why this stuff matters?
Its here, it’s NOW.

Trump incites this, he takes advantage of other people for his own ends.
He's the Fiend behind the Curtain.

... and with Sideshow Musk using his platform to attack governments and institutions, his mechanism for radicalising people has just expanded.

As others have said,
he has surrounded himself with others like himself, with absolute Fealty, so this is not the same as before.

This affects us all,
it’s time to push back.

It doesn't effect me in the slightest just like his previous 4 years didn't.

Much bigger problems in the world if you want to worry about stuff that probably won't happen and which you can't do anything about anyway.

Don't watch the news, don't read a paper, don't listen to muppets on youtube or read 'X' or whatever.

You do any of those things you're just playing into their hands. They want you worried. It gets clicks. Well balls to that.

“What Trump stands for”

No clue personally,
other than the obvious: what actions you see and what you hear from Him.

Perhaps I’m missing something others can see about him and his Policies?
Other than the obvious.

Perhaps I’m just emotional :eyebrows:

He likes to trash-talk. He enjoys it, it gets him publicity, it's very hard for his opponents to counter.

As if he would invade Greenland. I mean it's risible. How would he get approval from Congress? He's just on a constant wind-up. And it works.

I think journalists need to step up and do a much better job to counter Trump and call out his flow of lies, errors and misinformation.

There is a double standard here when compared to the scrutiny on Biden when Trump lies as easily as he breathes!

You have to go back 4 years ago. Biden had apologised on some of these since … I Love Mehdi Hasan, I do.

Flow of lies from Trump just 2 days ago … on, well, everything he said:

Mods,

The guys just trolling at this point.

There is information here...for those who have a mind to discern it. Perhaps this thread is not for you. Or, are you just bent on censoring any opinions that do not prescribe to your sensibilities? I am pretty sure you are not the only person who "lurks" and reads but chooses not to post. You know, it is not out of the realm of possibility that some are discovering some of this information for the first time. Why not allow them to process it for themselves and come to their own conclusions...

It's impossible to troll this thread. I know, I've tried.

There is no obligation for anyone to read all the posts on a thread, or to look at any thread for that matter.

Threads are only closed when it is deemed they have run their course, or have degraded into an unproductive slanging match. We have not reached that stage as yet, but at times it has got very close.

Although I have given up contributing anything pertinent to this thread (due to a lack of knowledge or even interest on the subject), I still look at it every day due to things being a bit thin on the ground elsewhere. It can be quite entertaining, like watching Eastenders only better.

Most things are better than watching Eastenders so I don't think you're setting the bar very high.

I'd say this thread is on a par with watching 'Junk And Disorderly.' Or possibly 'Dickenson's Real Deal.'

Yeah but you don't get the incessant bickering on Dickenson's Real Deal, unlike with Eastenders. That, combined with 'bad actors' and unlikely storylines makes for a pretty fair comparison. Though I should point out that Eastenders is something I routinely avoid and it is my laptop time. Occasionally I look up from the screen when the shouting starts.

Also, with Junk & Disorderly and Dickenson's Real Deal they come to an agreement at some point. No sign of that happening here.

It is (so far). Only needs a few ad hominem insults for it to be closed.

If Mike, Gary and Bernard are willing... ...I am willing to be the target. Let's get it on. Hurl those insults!! Let 'em fly boys!! (You've got time. Trump doesn't even take office for another 9 days, that's over a week.)

Agreed. This thread was as unnecessary as this one:

Barry

The "hurling of insults" is guaranteed to get this thread closed.
As far as I am concerned this thread has run its course, so should be closed. A new one can be opened when Trump is sworn in.

I'll close both of them then.

You can start a new thread, with perhaps a less 'challenging' title.
