Dull, raining, 7C.
Didn't get a milk delivery - or someone nicked it off the step. I never know.

The usual cold, drizzle and thick, dark clouds. Lights on indoors all day.
Weather forecast predicts pretty much the same for the next two weeks except it's getting colder.
Dark enough here that I had to use a torch to find a CD to put on.
Still sort of light outside - but it's only half three!
Just three more weeks though and it starts getting lighter again. Although admittedly it's a slow process.

Yes it'll be exactly like this in six weeks, only colder. At least it'll only be a couple of weeks to NEBO by then, so there's that.

You'd think it must be a lot worse with lack of daylight in those arctic countries but I just looked up Oslo and it's saying twilight is at 16.13 - it's been twilight here since 15.13!

Not too cold but it's drizzling and dark and miserable.
Pretty grim trip to Lowestoft and back, grey and wet. Looks like high winds tonight, tomorrow better but storms again Saturday and Sunday. Meh.

Don't think it's really got going here yet but I've got the motor racing on so maybe that's drowning out the horror of it.
According to the BBC we have a couple of hours of calm before the storm…
Not looking forward to taking the dog for a walk in the morning!
Went round to the supermarket earlier. Really bad weather - torrential rain and blowing a gale.
Floods everywhere. Hardly anyone in the Sainsbury which is unusual for Saturday morning even at 0845.
Got a bit wet but I've dried out now. Also eaten most of what I bought :doh:

I actually prefer the colder days with the cloudless blue skies - you can always dress warmer, and the frozen ground means you can walk pretty much anywhere without going ankle deep in mud. And you get some much needed sunshine :)

But what we have now is cold days with thick cloud. I'll take a warmer day with thick cloud anytime. Can't be choosy this time of year. Still, just 8 more days and we're at the shortest day.

It's quite strange that my cat's internal clock is totally unaffected by the shortening hours of daylight - 6.30 every morning (give or take ten minutes), she's demanding her breakfast and won't let a little thing like my snoring put her off. Nothing kicks off your day better than having a cat's bum in your face :rolleyes:
Still, just 8 more days and we're at the shortest day.
I get that, 21st December is when I have always accepted Christmas is happening, because it only gets better from then.
Today was another miserable cold grey day, but at least I have finally managed to book the car in to get the heater fixed next Wednesday, little wins.

It's everywhere at the moment. Called round at JacHawk's house last week, and he came to the door looking so rough I had to leave him to it. And this week Anita has been particularly ropey with sickness, trots and a monster headache. These lurgys very rarely get me, just as well as I know I am the world's worst patient.
Unbelievably mild today, and dry. Went to see some pretty Christmas lights this evening and it was still 11c, in fact I think it still is.

These lights were like “disco” lights, changing colour and syncing with the beat of some classical music - sounded and looked very good.

Took the dog for a walk earlier and still mild at 11c, cloudy but did spot a glint of blue sky, and the sun trying desperately to break through but grey nothingness again now.
Mild-ish here. Sun almost got through at one point.

Bit of sun here too but it's only over the horizon for a few hours. Not much heat in it either.

For the first time ever, Anita isn't doing the Christmas dinner - her oldest lad and his wife are taking on this duty, all we have to do is turn up :) They even texted us a menu of options including a choice of 3 desserts. I chose all three, just to avoid confusion ;)
Was too late the place was already rammed.
If people shopped quickly and efficiently there wouldn't be a problem but they stroll around gawking like they were at Machu Picchu or something.
Couldn't get to the pastries as there was some massively fat girl putting doughnuts into a bag with the pincers. In slow motion. Eventually she moved enough that I could reach past. She's probably still there now, managing about 1 doughnut a minute.
Weather-wise it's very mild. Was quite surprised when I stepped out the door. Sun is out now, too.

Steve, I don’t go anywhere near the washing up, only cooking for 4 adults and a 4 year old, tried and tested menu, finishing with Orkney fudge cheesecake.

I do like cheesecake, but I've not heard of that one. Blackcurrant cheesecake is one of our options - not very adventurous but i do like things with blackcurrants. Remember the blackcurrant tarts with sugar on top? Not had one of those for years, i suppose they still do them.
Our gathering is about the same size as yours - Anita and me, her son and his wife, Anita's dad, and her youngest son who I always try to sit as far from as possible as he smothers everything in ketchup :spew: He's ruined ketchup for me, and I wasn't a fan to start with. You'd expect that sort of thing from a small child, but he's 30. Still that's what Christmas is all about, tolerating folk you spend all year avoiding :)

I like cheesecake this one is a little on the sweet side with the fudge, this year’s might not include the whisky from Orkney as my grandson might want to try it. I only make this one at Xmas, also enjoy strawberry and white chocolate.

I think 'plant based' is just a rebranding of 'vegan' to try to draw non vegans into eating vegan.
'It's the same as meat, it's just plant based instead.'

I always thought vegans were basically vegetarians looking for a fight, but maybe I'm a bit of a dinosaur.
On my way home from Sainsbury's yesterday I saw a dead cat at the side of the road - if that poor cat had been hit by a turnip truck on its way to market, would a vegan be ok eating them turnips? I find it all a bit confusing.
Vegans who don't like cats would still be okay with tucking into them. Probably.

Yeah, chucking it down and 6c but felt colder when I went to empty the bins due to the wind still in the 40’s. Forecast to settle down tomorrow and cold but sunny.
Our local church is about 150 yards away on the other side of the road, and they are rather proud in this village of the “10 bells” it has (the soon to reopen pub is named after them and they feature on the village sign.). Not sure if it is because it is the last Sunday before Christmas, but since 6 o’clock they been peeling - much to the dog’s distaste as he’s moping about the house growling and barking at them.

Sadly no - I had only two days when I could have driven over to see them, but both of those days were not convenient for the two of them.
I will get in touch with Del in the New Year.
We seem to have had a lot more fog than usual so far this winter. Usually there's only one or two foggy days at most, but we've had easy half a dozen here so far.

I think they must really resent paying for something they hardly ever get an excuse to use.
Like buying one of those fancy gas barbeques and then barbequing even when you don't want to just to try to get some value out of the bastard thing.
That switch on the dash just so tempting. I bet they jump for joy when they come out the house in the morning and see fog.
My car is too clever - the lights automatically come on when it gets dark, the wipers are activated when it detects rain. Driving down today I passed through patches of thick fog, but I couldn't tell if the fog lights were on or not; and I wasn't going to fumble around trying to find the relevant switch to check.
I just wish they would invent a device that stopped all the windows misting up when you start to drive a car that has been left outside in the cold. My car seems particularly bad for that and it could be dangerous.

Our Volvo is pretty clever too, does all that. It's certainly more clever than me, I don't know what most of the buttons do. On a recent drive from Blackpool where I was doing the driving for a change I managed to dazzle a few oncoming cars with main beam and half-way reset the trip meter while trying to get the windscreen washer to operate.
Thick fog again. Bit nippy out too.

We're spending New Year's eve in a hotel in the Lake District, and the timing couldn't be better given the forecast I've seen on BBC Weather :doh:

supposed to be 8C here too but a bitterly cold wind made it about minus a million.
January going to kick in with a cold snap on the 2nd - zero degrees. Just need a bit of snow to add to that and it'll be as wank as possible.

Down south, here the weather is a bit more gloomy: 9C and overcast. But I have no need to go out until the New Year.

This is the hotel. Our room overlooks the river, though I'm not expecting much of a view with the rain battering the windows.
The 'other side' for us will be later in the day on New Year's Day, the weather forecast doesn't look good for being outside, and everywhere will be shut too. Also there'll be (hopefully) a few birthday pressies for me to deal with upon our return :D
