Apart from being a cruel fascist, his so called economic policies will stuff the low and middle income turkeys that voted for him, and crash, first, the US economy; and second, the global economy. If he implements his proposed mass deportations, aside from the huge costs involved, he will starve the US economy of essential workers at a time that companies are facing major recruitment problems. Musk, Besoz and his other billionaire friends must be wetting themselves in excitement at the promised tax cuts for the super rich and the prospect of big government contracts. It looks almost certain that he will control both Congress and the Senate, which alongside his doctoring of the Supreme Court means that there are no limits to his power.

The fact that he is likely to have won the popular vote is even more unfathomable. I can only think that he has got KFC and MacDonalds to lace their excuse for food with some brain rotting chemicals. I wonder if the US electorate will experience voters remorse sooner than it took for the UK to recognise the long term catastrophe of a poorly implemented Brexit.

Anyone interested should look at the works of Robert Reich who clearly documents the huge increase in wealth and income inequalities since the 50s and 60s.

I'm guessing you're not a woman or someone who cares about a woman's right to choose? And you haven't noticed the groundwork that has been done to make Trump above the law?

Good guess on the woman bit. What the individual U.S states decide is their abortion law isn't really anything to do with me, given I don't live there or have any voting right.

Women get a much worse deal in plenty of other countries but then it would be 'racist' if we drew attention to that wouldn't it?

51% of Americans are women. I wonder what percentage of American women care about a woman's right to choose? And where were they all when it came to the vote? Maybe their fellas wouldn't let them because they had to stay home and get tea on the table or else.

God save America, but then I don't think God has anything to do with the concious (?) state of many americans.
The rethoric used in religion is far too narrow to my mind, where is the humanity to all men (and women)?

Perhaps they think Trump is the new messiah.

That issue's a lot more complex. Roe Vs Wade got overturned which meant it was possible for the individual states to enact their own laws. 13 of 50 states made it illegal.

Women have still have the 'right to choose' in most states and nothing prevents them from travelling to another state. And IMO the whole abortion issue is far from black and white - but my own moral position on it is of little interest to me let alone anyone else and I've zero interest in pushing it.

What other people decide is law or not in their states or countries is their business.

In case anyone gets me wrong, if I lived in the U.S the only way I'd vote for Trump is with a gun to my head. But having a reasonable knowledge of how the U.S political and judicial system works, and a good knowledge of history, I think the hysteria over another Trump term as President is both unwarranted and somewhat risible.

I wouldn't have voted for Harris, either.

I must admit I am rather scared that America has indeed just elected a soft fascist, we'll see how much his power manages to hold sway amongst the state institutions, we'll see how much democracy those institutions can take before they break. On the other hand again I must admit, I am absolutely guffawing that the woke are having a nervous breakdown, I expect a massive exodus of 'non-binaries' into Canada over the coming months. Overall this is bad, but at least its not business as usual, for once voting might actually make a change, just not necessarily a good one. Get the popcorn in.

If anyone thinks that what has happened in the US is nobody's business but their own, think again. The expression, "when America sneezes the world catches a cold" is pertinent here. His economic policies (if one can call them such) have been scrutinised by numerous economists (including most living Nobel Laureate economists) and declared to be fatally flawed by shifting the tax burden to the poorest 40% of households, and leading to a reduction in gdp that is comparable to, if not greater than, that experienced during the great depression. When the US economy tanks, the world economy tanks shortly afterwards.

I suspect that many will not have followed closely the groundwork that Trump and his minions have done to prepare for a dictatorship supported by oligarchs and ultra nationalists. Those who think his first term was "harmless" may have forgotten his tentative steps to purge the US of Muslims and people of colour. His frustration at being constrained by the rule of law and some of his key staff who kept him in check has led to a series of measures that will replace qualified personnel with minions swearing an oath of personal loyalty to Trump rather than the Constitution. He has been enabled by a mass media dominated by the likes of Fox News (and Rupert Murdoch), and a host of right wing talk news programmes. For many Americans, their news is exclusively delivered by agencies supporting conspiracy theories and pining for a white America of the 1950s where civil rights where still denied to a huge swathe of American citizens.

As to abortion and Roe vs Wade, nobody sees abortion as a satisfactory resolution to an unwanted pregnancy, but for 50 years it was considered to be lawful though subject to clear limits and conditions. Trump's three Supreme Court nominees were questioned on the subject during their confirmation hearings and lied by declaring that they considered it settled legal precedent. To say that women can go to another state for their reproductive health needs betrays an underlying misogyny that I have been troubled by on this forum on more than one occasion.

Regarding Ukraine, Trump has already declared that Russia can do what it likes. It will. Without US economic, political and military support, Ukraine is fucked and Trump will have his revenge on Zelensky for refusing to provide false kompromat on Biden. Putin will not stop at the Ukraine, and already Poland and the Baltic States are taking steps to greatly ramp up their military spending. Whether or not Europe has the means and political will to fill the gap left by a withdrawal of US support remains to be seen.

This is the sort of sheer fantasy I was talking about. Do you not consider that this is a bizarre world view pushed by left wing conspiracy theorists and simply a mirror image of the equally stupid right wing ones?

The phrase about 'America sneezing' is from 200 years ago. The world is a different place. As for 'Nobel Laureate economists' - ROTFL. There's no such thing as an expert in economics. They'd be billionaires if they could predict anything with accuracy - and of course they aren't.

You should apprise yourself of the military situation in Ukraine. The Russians are burnt out. They couldn't make any progress against Ukraine long before the USA and European assistance arrived. The idea that they will now sweep across Europe is just ridiculous.

As for me being a misogynist - that's just the usual personal attack in place of rational argument.

This is the problem with these discussions, the standard of debate is so low they aren't even interesting.

Agree with much of that, admit I haven't been following Trumps actual policies as I thought America wouldn't be so crazy to vote him in again, I see the turnout was lower in this election than the last. Regards Ukraine though, the situation at present is that Russia is winning, America won't risk getting deeper involved due to possible direct war between Russia and Nato, Ukraine will just have to let go of the Donbas. There is the chance I guess that Putin will seek to install another puppet regime in the whole of Ukraine, and that is a worry. But I don't think he will begin some sort of Hitlerite march further into central Europe, when he has been struggling to take south east Ukraine since 2014. That wasn't his plan, he just wanted to secure Crimea and the naval base there in 2014, as a purely defensive measure, and also to thwart any Maidan style revolution happening in Russia.

According to exit polling in ten key states of the 2024 presidential election in the United States, almost two-thirds of voters who had never attended college reported voting for Donald Trump. In comparison, a similar share of voters with advanced degrees reported voting for Kamala Harris.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1535279/presidential-election-exit-polls-share-votes-education-us/

So you can read that two ways.

Thick people voted Trump and smart people voted Harris

Or

Working class people feel marginalised and don't think that the Democrats have any interest in the issues that matter to them.

So they voted for Trump as the only alternative, as a protest, or because they actually think he will do something positive for them.

And if I were to spend two and a half YouTube hours on someone opposing what you posted here, would that count as me educating myself? And how much of your time would you give to watching it? My enquiring whether there was anything a little more concise is not unreasonable and certainly not down to ignorance - two and a half hours is an increasingly large proportion of the time I have left on this planet.

One thing my tiny ignorant brain is looking forward to is the end of the war in Ukraine on 21st January 2025 (Trump did mention something about ending the war in one day iirc). If by some chance that doesn't happen, do I have permission to say he's as full of shit as the next politician?

Why the defensiveness? I assume you to be more intelligent than to turn it into a personal attack. It stands. If you do not watch the whole interview, you or anyone else would indeed be ignorant of what was brought to light in the part of the interview you did not watch. Is not that a major part of the problem, microwave technology? We live in an age of information on demand yet no one wants to take the time for due diligence. When we do not, that is on us. We have no one else to blame. We can ingest the talking points...or we can dig for a deeper understanding. For someone as old as I, the lion share of what we have heard, seen and witnessed is the opposing viewpoint.

Nevertheless, you are right about the time each of us have left on the planet. We just don't know and dare we presume. “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’"

Neverminding the "tiny ignorant brain" part, let us be sensible. President Trump, like you and I, wants to end the war in Ukraine and, in his own words, "stop the killing"? If it takes President Trump a week, a month or even a year to stop the war, do you mean to tell me that you will actually be put out? Name one person besides President Trump (who is or will be in a position to do so) that has been more adamant and vocal about putting an end to the war. I'll wait. Where are they? Why haven't they done it yet? As far as permission to say anything, you will have to consult with your own government. For me, I worry not about trotting out any particular line because Freedom of Speech is, as a matter of fact, enshrined in the US Constitution. (As an aside, I often wonder if Marco was disappeared for speaking out about the "vaccine".)

Yes, I watched it; all of it.

MSNBC is not a credible news organization. Morning Joe is laughable at best, as in "let's hope Trump lets us in his residence for an interview; we hate him but our ratings have plummeted". Their pundits are no different. All their posturing and lying did nothing to sway the majority of the American public, dare I say the world. This drives the coven mad. And, that is the crux of what we now see. Pure and unadulterated evil hedonism has been put in check. They made every attempt to persuade all American citizens that the country was held by anti-God, Christ Jesus-hating, sexually reprobate wannabe expats just waiting to put an end to every tenet of traditional American life and generationally passed down values. They were wrong. They hate that they were wrong. Like a child that has not been trained up in the way they should go, it is perfectly natural to expect them to lash out at each and every member of the winning team, especially those that used to be on "their" side. Never can they admit that they did not maintain control of the White House, the Senate, the House, the Judiciary, etc. etc. because (a term they loved to throw on others) their "radical extremism" just does not resonate with the majority of legal American citizens. We are seeing now even more sour grapes and bruised egos from these people who shouted "equity" and "inclusion" and "tolerance" but resort to assassinations when things aren't going their way.

I/we are fully expecting to see more character attacks not only on President Trump's picks but on anyone and everyone who voted for President Trump and Vice President JD Vance. The mainstream media. if you have watched it as of late, pumps the narrative that "(Americans) were just uninformed, uneducated, misogynists, racists, sexists" on and on it goes and that is the reason for the approval of RFK, Jr. (former Democrat), Tulsi Gabbard (former Democrat), Elon Musk (former Democrat), Matt Gaetz, Tom Homan, etc. etc. etc. On the contrary, the majority of Americans just got tired, rejected the propaganda that Obama made legal to use of them, and said enough.

Oh no you don't. I first questioned whether there might be something a bit more brief and easier to digest than that feature-length you provided, and I did it in a tongue-in-cheek manner as is my wont. I saw what followed as being the "personal attack" (don't think that using the word 'someone' instead of naming me personally gets you out of that).

Of course Trump wants to "stop the killing", (we all do), but what he repeatedly said was that he could end it in 24 hours, not a week, not a month, not a year. We in the UK have already had our fill of homegrown political bullshit and goalpost-moving from our newly elected right bunch of bloody liars, so forgive me if I come across a bit cynical.

But life's too short to be getting the hump over any of the above, and it's too early for anyone to be saying I told you so, so...

You are correct. It is not cool. It is just a fact. Not going to argue about that. Chronically incorrect about so many things, at best. Proven wrong or outright lying so frequently as to have completely gutted its credibility. Routinely, committing sins of omission; providing half truths or completely twisting facts. I didn't realize rapists make money (other than Epstein island clients and Diddy party goers). Obviously, I was referring to the swath of incompetent therapists who indeed rape of mind of their clients, the ones who are actually of no benefit to their clients and/or leave clients worse on the way out than they were when they came in the door for their session. I make no apologies for calling out "therapists" who rape the wallet/purse of their clients as a business model. No apologies, at all.

Again, I stand by my words. I do not give a crap if it takes President Trump longer than a day to end the war. If he does at any point...he will have accomplished something no one else gave two shits about doing since it started...and it has been years. Call him a blowhard if you want. Call him a bullshitter if you want. IF he does (I did say "if") then he will be the bullshitting blowhard that actually ended the war. At which point, anyone who has a problem with the war ending... is just someone who has a problem with the war ending... which I consider evil foolishness on the part of anyone. I will be specific and pointed if you prefer. Love you, bruva, but I will consider that attitude of you to be evil and foolish.

But life's too short to be getting the hump over any of the above, and it's too early for anyone to be saying I told you so, so...

I agree with you...mostly. However, consider what has already happened since he became President Elect, again. He and his administration aren't even in the White House, yet. Just knowing he is on the way has many a corrupt politician we all despise (at least on this side of the pond) reconsidering their path, as well they should. That in and of itself is a win.

They lost. They lost in a big way. Cognitive dissonance is no longer a refuge for them. Election fraud did not work for them. They are mad as hell but the facts remain...they lost.

There is a good reason for those character attacks, some of the high profile positions such as Defence secretary, are being offered to people that no normal president elect would consider, mostly because they share Trump's bigoted and extreme right wing views, so there's this Pete Nesgeth guy, nominated for Defence sec. I mean look at him, are you telling me he could hold his own with Henry Kissenger or Robert Mcnamara?

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54156054193_30310acb09_z.jpg

The guy is a christian nationalist, he doesn't look like the sort of level headed type needed for such a position. Again Mick Huckabee - nominee for Ambassador to Israel is an extreme ignoramus, he quotes from the Old Testament when he talks of Israel, an absolute joke. And finally Mat Getz, who is already out of the running, the first if you like of what will undoubtedly be many of Trumps revolving door of staff, if his first term is anything to go by.

The fact that Trump seems ready to at least talk to Putin is I think a good thing, the US has tried the hard way, well almost, they are being rather half hearted in their allowance of what Ukraine can do with the weapons it supplies, despite Putin's many escalations, that is probably sensible seeing that the US helped get Ukraine into this mess in the first place, by its undiplomatic and gung ho expansion of Nato. However this could revert to a good old fashioned European war, if Trump pulls out US support, Nato's European allies I think, might continue their support of Ukraine without the US, and things could get messy.

I don't think you really understand what is/has been going on: Obama couldn't do much because he didn't have control of the House and Senate so pretty much everything got blocked (including his Supreme Court pick), Trump stacked the Supreme Court so that Roe vs Wade got overturned and the president now has immunity from almost all 'deeds' committed in office, so he pretty much has unfettered power. Of course that he's a convicted criminal, whose only interest is self-interest makes that pretty dangerous at a dangerous time for the world.

I do very much understand and it's no different from what has happened many times previously. This includes 'stacking' the Supreme Court (how do you think Roe Vs Wade was established to begin with in a conservative Christian country?).

Just having control of the House and Senate doesn't mean that legislation flies through. It's far more complex, which is why previous Presidents in that same position have still struggled to achieve any goals. Added to which there are mid-term elections for both House and Senate which often leave the President as a lame duck.

The idea that Trump now has 'Unfettered power' - I don't know where to start with that. It just isn't borne out by the facts and does not take into account how the American government and the office of president actually work.

The founding fathers were not idiots, the main thing they set it all up to deliberately avoid was for any form of dictatorship to become possible. Some argue they went too far the other way and made it too difficult to accomplish anything. But the result of rolling that back a little was Vietnam and Nixon. Since then the president can do a lot less.

Trump's a good talker but I'd have thought it pretty apparent to anyone that's all he is.

Thanks will read later. Went on Wiki to read about Wade vs Roe, 1 hour later........ f**k me the US system of democracy is complicated, one might say outdated and bureaucratic! Interesting fact (for those who like me didn't know this), the Roe in question (Norma McCorvey) actually ended up having the baby in question - though she gave it up for adoption, and in later years campaigned for the pro-life cause. And the hook on which the trial hung on was the 'right to privacy', contained within the 9th amendment, phew...... Personally I don't see how that was all so easily overturned in 2022, just a weird way to legislate.

On the issue of Trumps nominees, here's what historian Tim Snyder has to say about this Hegseth creature.

Pete Hegseth: The Short Course
13 Steps to National Destruction
Timothy Snyder
Nov 24

1. Pete Hegseth, Trump's nominee for secretary of defense, has no qualifications for the job. He has never run a large organization and has no national security expertise.

2. Hegseth has zero notion of which other countries might threaten America or how. In his books this is simply not a subject, beyond a few clichés.

3. Hegseth does not believe in alliances. For him, “NATO is a great example of dumb globalism.”

4. Hegseth wants a political army that bans women from combat roles, is purged of "cowardly generals," and is anti-woke.

5. Hegseth never notes that the politicized Russian army meets all of his standards perfectly, but is is ineffective and commits war crimes.

6. Hegseth never notes that the Ukrainian army, which does have women in combat, and is not politicized in the way he would like, has overperformed.

7. Hegseth has almost nothing to say about the most significant armed conflict of our time and has not visited Ukraine or learned anything about it.

8. Hegseth’s misogynist gender politics are consistent with his polygamy and the accusations of rape.

9. Hegseth's enemies are all internal: the Left, Muslins, and immigrants. He repeatedly claims that the Left wishes to annihilate everyone else, which is a call to violence.

10. Hegseth, a Christian Reconstructionist, believes that Americans should be governed not by law or by the Constitution but by God -- as interpreted of course by Hegseth and his friends.

11. Hegseth calls for a "holy war" and a "crusade" against Americans who think differently than he does because "God wills it." Trump is the pretext: Hegseth wants "to make crusade great again."

12. Hegseth, according to his books, could be counted upon to ignore threats to America from abroad, and to use a purged and politicized military against “enemies within.” This is consistent with Trump's avowed intention to build a kind of dictatorship on the ruins of a dysfunctional government.

13. Hegseth thus represents a policy of regime change. Trump’s nomination of Hegseth is best understood as part of a decapitation strike against the republic. A Christian Reconstructionist war on Americans led from the Department of Defense is likely to break the United States.

Tim Snyder:

Snyder predicts that Trump will seek systemic changes to remain in power until death, use deportations to divide Americans and render them violent, create a martyr cult around January 6 perpetrators, and cooperate with like-minded rulers abroad.

I mean - that's absurd.

It's not at all, it's all happening, there are people who believe he's the messiah because he dodged that bullet. Remember these are idiots of the 'QAnon' ilk. Also remain in death till he dies, that might mean he only gets one term, or less!

I looked up that Pete Hegseth bloke. Appears to have extensive military experience - tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, awarded a Bronze Star, retired as a Major.

Not sure how much that directly relates to the job of defence secretary but it's not 'No experience.'

On the down side he appears to be a religious fundamentalist, his education is poor in key areas (degree in Politics ), and he's a rich kid who's had it easy all his life.

Doubt he will be the end of the world but be surprised if he is at all effective at whatever agenda he hopes to implement.

More from Snyder on Trump and Hesgeth

It is not hard to see why Trump wants Hegseth as his secretary of defense. Trump plans to purge the armed forces of high officers who care about the United States and leave only loyalists. Trump wants to use the armed forces in operations inside the United States, including the oppression of “enemies within,” which is to say, his political opponents. Hegseth gives every sign of being a person who would embrace such actions as an American crusade.

When's the last time you went to church?

Whew!

I thought you were going to ask me... When was the last time I got on my knees and asked forgiveness for my sins, or asked for help to be the kind of person Christ wants me to be, or the last time I read (or listened to (audio book)) the Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, or asked for wisdom and understanding as I read it, or asked for His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven?

To answer your question, it has probably been about 15 years.

Now, I ask you questions:

Kamala Harris has been to church (far more recently than I) and even spoke from behind a pulpit. Does that make her a Christian? If an atheist attends a Christmas Eve candle light church service, is that person now a Christian? Am I now disqualified?

What is a Christian?

What does it benefit a person to sit in the same pew, in the same building, on the same corner, in the same town/city week after week after week, singing the same hymns/songs, sitting next to people they never really get to know and don't mingle with any other time (fellowship?) and sleepily allow a pastor/reverend/priest to tell them what God says, never verifying it for themselves...especially, if it is not readily apparent to anyone they see regularly (family, friends, colleagues) that their lives/spirit has been affected/changed for the better?

Which is more important: the church as that magnificent stone building and equally magnificent pipe organ? Or, the church as the body of believers?

The title and premise of the thread and contempt in the first post set the bar so low that even tardigrades would be cussin' up a storm trying to slide under it.

The Art of Sound forum, though birthed/hosted in the UK, has become a worldwide respected place for audiophiles. The assumption/hope that it is an echo chamber for any one social construct, political or religious mindset is a mistake.

I do find this typical of certain factions that do not have any sincere intention toward rational debate and/or simply hearing differing points of view, preferring that other "invalid" viewpoints simply did not exist. For all their protests against such, they are the very model of intolerance and proponents of group think. Shame, really.

What has "America" done? The majority of Americans have exercised their right to continue participating in their civic duty. What follows...is what follows. Que será, será. Full stop.

The expression I wanted to use after the first post is “people in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones”.

Being an ex-pat in France, I no longer have the right to vote in the U.K., and not being a French National, I have no right to vote in anything but the local elections.

So completely sitting on the fence, all I can see is what a f*cked up world we live in.
Everywhere I look, a lot of people are unhappy with their elected politicians. Just goes to show that you can’t please everybody.

All of it.
Trump is a proven liar, and thats a biased interview.
Joe Rogan, seriously?

Trump will say whatever he thinks will benefit him, so its disbelieved by default, based on his past behaviour and no other reason.
Object to so much of Trump, he has zero redeeming charactaristics. Zero.

Genuine question: Do you believe what Trump says to be the Truth?

Think your point with this post is to focus on things that he expresses himself, not "lamestream media" or whatever...so lets examine a couple.
Not to try to convince you of anything:

But here's brave patriot Cadet Bone Spurs suggesting "The Purge" as US Policy, and not just as a script in a Movie.

I realize this is how so many people operate these days. Nevertheless, I am not giving you an out. All you have done is deflected. You have not answered the question at all...and you know it. "All of it." = no points listed, cop out...followed by the usual vitriol "he's a liar" (without specifics of where he lied) followed by using someone else's supposed questionable character to cast aspersions on the former's.

You are bent on hating, eluding discovery...not listening...not fact finding...with discernment being a bag you dropped yesteryear; content to have mainstream media demanding you leave it where it landed, avoiding all introspection, (where this topic is concerned).

Good on you.

Your questions about Christianity and the Bible only prove that you know little if anything at all about Christ's teachings, His mission in earthly life, His complete character and...what is to come. A kin to the above...all the information is readily available; it is on you to educate yourself. Granted that requires a heart change which you may not be willing. C'est la vie.

It is on me to thoroughly enjoy this Thanksgiving Day with friends and family. This year we celebrate!

Cheers!

'Stand back' seems pretty clear. And most politicians will say anything they think benefits them.

I don't think these are the smoking guns you're suggesting they are.

That's an impartial viewpoint. I don't have any specific problem with Trump, although he wouldn't have got my vote as I don't think he's capable or has any intention of 'making America great again.'

I think he's only in it for Trump, because he enjoys it. He's old. he's rich, he's got nothing better to do with his time.

I'm still classing all the dire predictions as hysteria. And it happens on both sides. Obama was supposed to be the end of times, according to some Republicans.

Trump's language on Twitter is most unbecoming of a US president!

Donald Trump has threatened “all hell to pay” if the remaining hostages in Gaza are not released by Hamas before his inauguration on January 20, 2025.

The president-elect posted on Truth Social: “Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America.”

I can't believe the poor Palestinians are gonna get hit again, this is the worst moment in their history, but then again Hamas share a lot of the blame for their plight.
