Extracting Walnuts

I've got a big ol' Walnut tree in the garden, laden with Walnuts. Now we've shot the Squirrels, we have a chance of actually getting some nuts for ourselves but how do you get the nut out of the green husk without damaging yourself and staining your hands brown ???

Put one under a board off cut & roll it on the floor, idea to use two boards one to roll it on.. not to stain your floor

Fresh walnuts are so much better than dried ones you buy in the shops so it's worth taking the effort to dodge the tannic acid stains. Wait till they fall & before you pick em up gently tread on them so as to crack the out husk. Then lay them out at home in a warm place for one or two days only. The shells will still be soft so you can put some mariglods on & sort them by hand.
You got the most difficult bit sorted - walnuts are always best after they fall but before the squirrels. Did you eat the squirrels?!
