Sold my Puresound L10 on eBay , the buyer Jonathan tiffin 162 shepherds Bush road. Got a full refund by eBay without returning it and now is not responding, well they answered the phone then when they realised who it was, blocked my number . Any know this person ?

Report it to the police. They took things very seriously when I reported a similar problem, though I am in Notts where there is a special unit.

EBay need to get a grip of scams like this they should not refund any money to a purchaser without ensuring the goods have been returned to the seller or the seller has agreed to the refund.

Ebay don't give a toss. I sometimes buy from there but would never sell. There's too many scammers and no protection for vendors.

I've always sold through forums. You'll probably get less for it and it may take longer to sell but never had a single issue. Unless it's collection for cash I send them it and say - have a go on it, if you want to keep it send me the money, otherwise just post it back.

In dozens of sales only one person ever posted the item back. Never had a non-payer.

I would make a complaint to eBay. They do follow these things up, but also report it to your bank, and the police.

Yep. Go through eBay. They are under contract to deal with it. So stick to your guns and hold them responsible from now on. Insist, insist, insist. Don't let it go. Contact them every day.

I've been through something similar. It was a few years ago now but I hounded them and they got what I wanted.

From then on, I don't sell anything expensive on eBay.

Scammers know how to work it but eBay's system simply isn't updated enough. Sometimes I wonder if places like this still run Windows 3.1.

That is, an update in policy and systems to counteract this behaviour is dire. They'd rather not do it to save money.

Discogs is even worse. You really are gambling on there.

So I only buy from the big sellers now.

I hope you get it sorted. It's a pain but stick to them like glue.

Ebay normally refund the amount when tracking shows the return has been delivered at least they do when I return things. Didn't they ask you to approve the return and provide a label?

They did but I was awaiting the outcome of the original appeal. Once they refunded him I was unable to process the return . They are looking into again as it could be a case of a cloned account

Stopped selling on eBay a decade ago, just plain crap. I only buy from ebay now and trusted forum members.

Usually meet up even at 50 miles each.
Once had ebay purchase but courier delivered to wrong person- thankfully the seller tracked it down and the bloke sent it on to me, unscathed, buy ebay not interested.

I don't know the numbers but anecdotal evidence suggests that eBay's star is in decline due to the growth of the likes of Vinted, Etsy etc. Ebay is now letting you sell most things for free.

I had a bizarre experience on eBay this year. I was selling some kit on a seven day auction and by midway two bidders were competing with each other. The leading bidder had already gone to what I had expected the final sale price to be. Worryingly the leading bidder then started asking me technical questions about the equipment...and at the eleventh hour they messaged me to retract their bid (couldn't be bothered to follow the procedure for themself). By the time this had all been done and the current bid had therefore dropped right back down to what the second highest bidder had initially offered when the bidding frenzy started, there were now only four hours to go. Therefore, fearing that some other potential bidders might have gone away after seeing the price at its peak, I ended the sale with a view to starting again and re-advertising it for another seven days.

Now the surprise bit (at least for me). The system made the sale effective there and then and at the second highest bidder's lowest amount, which was about a third of what I expected the final sale price to be.

Well, eat my shorts eBay. There was no way of speaking with them to resolve the mess. Frankly I would just have walked away anyway and let them do whatever. However the second (winning) bidder was a very reasonable person and we came to an appropriate outcome.

But I am done with selling equipment on eBay. It is a farce. Seems to me they've milked the beast for all it's worth over the years but that is starting to come to an end.

I rarely buy anything on Ebay except hi-fi and CDs but have noticed with the hi-fi there's not many listings before you get to the 'International Sellers' listings.

Used to be - 20 years ago - you could search for any bit of kit and there'd be several on offer, in the UK.

They also try to chunk it out a bit by including listings only distantly related to your search.

Too many scammers and people messing sellers about I think is killing it for anything worth more than a couple of hundred.

I've noticed that too, hard not too as the first thing I do is move the 'item location' tab from default to UK only. Otherwise postage costs and possible VAT and import taxes just take the piss.

Yes I do that too or it just mixes them all in. Almost all the good stuff turns out to be in America or Japan.

Winnow it down to the UK and it's spares or repairs, or badly banged up, or just someone trying to sell a bad photocopy of the manual for twenty quid.

If you like what I call classic era ('75-'90) Japanese then there's good stuff in Germany, although some of the sellers won't ship to UK. But I'd pay the extra to get the right piece from there.

Especially if it's top draw vintage Jap gear. Why is none of it here? Is it because Brits back then preferred their hifi to be built on some bloke's kitchen table with whatever he could find in the used batteries drawer?

A lot of high end Jap kit was never put on sale in the UK. They didn't think there was a market for it. I'm not sure why but I suppose they researched it at the time.
