Thread not started yet, as far as I can see, so here goes.

In the frozen north the sun is shining, but visibility isn't the best - can't see the top of the hills.

So far October seems nice.

12c and persisting it down here in not so sunny Suffolk…

Cloudy, but stayed dry today. Moving my outdoor work back 24 hours was a good idea. Rest of the week looking ok too.

A dry sunny day, t shirt weather this afternoon. Think we'll have this till Saturday.

miserable this morning but been sunny this afternoon.

Quite the reverse here: cloudy but dry this morning, rainshowers this afternoon.

10C and cloudy.

dave2010
03-10-2024, 09:32
Very sunny so far, and should stay that way for a while. Temperatures low at the moment - maybe under 10 degrees C, but struggling up to 14 C later on - allegedly.

Skies were clear enough to see stars last night, so maybe that explains the cold right now.

rmcin626
03-10-2024, 11:14
Overcast but a dry 11c

Barry
03-10-2024, 12:14
Now 14C and pleasantly warm. :)

Proper cold first thing with clear skies but been quite a good day; sunny with no wind.

Pigmy Pony
04-10-2024, 06:36
Another clear-sky dry morning, and looks to stay that way.

Without looking at the clock I know it's about 7.30 because the bloke across the road has just set off in his van to his appliances sales and repair business. He always likes to get there an hour ahead of his staff so he can have his morning dump in peace. Always likes to use the shop's toilet. Nowt as queer as folk. It might seem equally strange that I should know this about him...

14C, clear blue sky with sunshine.

Pigmy Pony
04-10-2024, 11:53
Same here, but a bit warmer in Southport where I've just been. Quite a nice place unless you were hoping for a sea view. I don't think the tide's ever been in there, just a couple of miles of mud and a view of Blackpool tower across the estuary. On the plus side they do have a lawnmower museum if that's your kind of thing.

Damp and cold.

Pigmy Pony
06-10-2024, 16:12
We were forecast a lot of showers today, which never materialised. I'm not too miffed though, it was still too miserable to be outdoors much. Apart from Wednesday which will see me erecting roof trusses, I don't have anywhere I need to be, so the weather can suit itself next week.

Pigmy Pony
07-10-2024, 12:29
I'm hoping the rain holds off until this evening at least as I'm helping Anita's lad finish the 'man cave' he's built at the back of the house. He recently had his girlfriend stay over for the night with him in it, all done nice inside. But without finishing the roof work

To me, a man cave should at the very least have a basic sound system, a flat screen telly and a dart board, not a bed with rose petals strewn on it. So I refuse to call it a man cave. But lady cave just sounds wrong. Boudoir maybe.

Macca
07-10-2024, 13:03
If he has to have a bed in there it should at least fold down from the wall or be one of those that doubles as a settee.

Pigmy Pony
08-10-2024, 15:39
Cheapskate didn't even have a bed in there, the mattress was on the floor. Anyway he's moved out now, so hopefully it will now provide storage for all the grandkids crap I keep tripping over. Why do toys have to be so big these days? When I was a kid all I needed was my catapult and a penknife.

Cold, but not raining so far. Reasonably bright. Temperatures around zero - and may stay that way today. Grey clouds - no obvious blue patches.
Slight concern about a couple of olive trees which may not be frost resilient, but there is still water on the ground - no ice.

Thunderstorms never happened so no win there.

Been odd today. Mild and no wind but a heavy mist that never cleared all day. Plus a load of rain - tropical downpours alternating with that fine stuff that soaks you through.

Bloody hell. It never even got properly daylight here. I am by the window (always get a desk by a window even if it means killing a man) and I couldn't even see the top of the hill less than half a mile away.

pretty good today but traffic gridlocked on the way home.

If I'd walked be back in 30 minutes, foolishly accepted a lift and it took an hour to get nowhere and I ended up walking anyway.

Roads still jammed when I got home at 1900.

Barry
17-10-2024, 19:08
Rush hour seems to start earlier and earlier. I tend to avoid driving in the mid afternoon as the schools finish, and the parents waiting to collect their children clog up the neighbouring roads. Then there are those returning home from work who use the narrow roads through the village as a 'rat run', usually driving at a higher than sensible speed.

A home-made 'stinger' would soon settle their hash. Just conceal it under some leaves, ideal this time of year.

In recent years I've found myself leaving for work increasingly early in a vain attempt to beat the rush hour. This year I've finally decided to sod it and leave later. Much better.

I've heard it said that our country isn't overcrowded, that there's plenty of room for all of us. Unfortunately there isn't room for all the cars we need for getting from A to B, as our inability to cope with road works and accidents show.

If I walk home it takes 35 minutes unless I really push it, then its 30 minutes. If I get a lift, in normal traffic conditions, it's 20 minutes. Distance is almost exactly two miles.

I suppose over a longer distance the benefit is more but for 2 miles it's negligible time saving to use the car. And in bad traffic, it can take a lot longer.

Barry
17-10-2024, 21:01
Also people don't use their drives anymore, preferring to leave their cars out on the road. This effectively halves the width of the road, making life difficult for the rest of us having to negotiate these 'chicanes'.

Sheer bone idleness so they don't have to back out next time. I'd probably do it too.

I used to walk to work as it was only about half a mile from home. If I drove the car would have hardly warmed up, so only drove if it was raining or I had something large or heavy to convey.

Hi Bev,
It's been a long time since you last posted - what have you been up to?

If you want to contact either Marco or Del, you will have to write them a letter and post it. Email or any other form of messaging won't work: I've tried it often enough.

Del is busy with her teaching work during the day and when she gets home has to attend to Marco. As such they go to bed early, leaving little opportunity for communication with those outside of their immediate circle.

Well with the arrival of Storm Ashley it looks like we couldn't have picked a better day to go to a record fair in Windermere (the town, not the lake), so should make for an interesting drive. We might have to sack off the planned boat trip on the lake though.

Same poxy weather here as well. Just come back from a boot sale - not a good idea what with the occasional light rain and the wind, but we made a useful profit nonetheless.

Just got back from a few hours up in the Lake District, got a few bargains at their record fair. We wanted to go on a round-the-lake boat trip, but missed the last sailing by ten minutes, because they were cancelling the rest of the day and sending their "captains" home due to the bad winds.

Oh well the day wasn't a total bust, and I got some handy buying/selling advice off the fair's organiser, as well as a decent chunk of discount :) It was blue skies and warm up there, unfortunately the trees were clearly struggling to stay upright.

Then home via a pub for some nosebag. Perfect day, almost.

What did you buy at the record fair Steve?

Sorry if I gave the impression I got loads of stuff, I didn't.

Genesis - In the Beginning (which is actually a reissue of their first album "From Genesis to Revelation"). No idea what it will be like, it's an album that passed me by. Anita picked this.

Everything but the Girl - Love not Money. Never heard this, but I have a few of their albums and like all of them.

Japan - Oil on Canvas. A live double album. I played some of this earlier, I know most of the tracks and the recording is excellent.

Orbital - Brown album. This one is CD, and is one I've been after for some time, but used copies are all 7 quid plus. Got this for £1.50 :)

Everything is NM. Total cost was £32, but seller discounted it down to £25, which was nice, as was he.

While I had his ear i asked about valuing records. He uses a site called Popsike, which for for free you can do up to ten searches a day. Or you can have unlimited searches for a subscription. The site gives details about individual records sold, including what they sold for on which date, and with label pics of the actual record sold, not library pictures.

8C and a bit grey, but the sun is trying to get through. Dry, and forecast to stay that way till Friday.

A glorious day today, mostly sunny and hit 18. Spent some time walking round a race horse training centre in Newmarket so managed to actually get outside for once.

Another lovely day, I even managed a short period sitting on my favourite bench with my shirt off catching the rays. Not a pretty sight.

Dull today with a cold wind. Was a couple of brief spells of sunshine but nothing to write home about.

Perpetual darkness starts this weekend too.

It's been mizzling with rain here, so maybe I should put on Richard and Mimi Fariña's 'Celebrations for a Grey Day'?

Dull with rain off and on, but it's mild for the time of year.

Away for 4 nights for half-term at Butlin’s, Bognor Regis. Been raining off and on this afternoon, but mild. Supposed to be sunny spells next 3 days and no rain, 16c, which is a result.

So which Freddie look did you go with on the night? The cat suit and long wig with short fringe, or the short hair, moustache and tight white vest look? I reckon you went with the latter :) Or did you go with a combination of the two but with a short skirt, pushing a hoover round... we all have our favourite :)

Sadly, I was unaware of Platinum Queen performing so was unprepared in the packing department. The on stage “Freddie” was rocking the short hair, moustache and tight white vest look, with a variety of the latter and a couple of interesting jackets, however the wig, big earrings and a vacuum cleaner with a pink chiffon top did come out for “I Want to Break Free”! They really were very entertaining.

A young lad I used to work with was a massive Erasure fan - he went to see them live, with front row seat, took pictures of Andy Bell, then got the pictures developed to enable him to run up a copy of Andy Bell's outfit on his sewing machine. Then wore the outfit when going to see them again a few days later. Now that's dedication.
