I notice that no-one has noted the death earlier this week of Leonard Skinner, the inspiration behind the naming of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, and a personal inspiration to the early band.

yep,
sad indeed but...
briliant legacy! i remember the first time i heard freebird and everytime i have heard it since it takes me back to my youth.
they never had much luck as band as i recall, there was the plain crash and...
well,,, you know.:)

A very good friend of mine, who sadly died far too soon (he had just turned 53), had stated he wanted 'Freebird' played at his funeral, and it was. It has become a bit of an institution amongst those of us who have survived him, to play 'Freebird' at the stroke of midnight at New Year.

Every time I hear it, my eyes well up remembering what a good friend he was.
