over the weekend I was chatting with an electronics engineer friend, one of his clients had spun a cd in a player and it stopped working, lazer was broekn, replaced the laser all ok until the same offending disc was played. Laser broke again. Coincidence or a CD problem?
Looking at the CD it had all the hallmarks of being one a professiionally produced CDR - there was a period when low volume sale CDs were made availble as low run CD-R discs. It looked to be one of these. The player was a Maranz universal UD7007 or similar (i didnt look at it closely), We were pondering if high disc reflectivility coupled with poor readabilith could cause the laser to burn out. Neithe rof is had come across this before but the whole issue is puzzling.
