Too hot for me outside, but I had some errands to run, so made up for it with a nice cold lager and a Magnum ice cream.

25C and wall to wall blue sky. Been so nice outside here that I don't mind that all I've earned is 30 quid, 3 cans of pop and a 12" Spicy Italian sub :) So now I'm typing furiously to burn off the calories.

Wonderful summers day here. Absolutely perfect. Shame I've had to spend 10 hours of it in the office.
Probably the last day of summer looking at the forecast ahead.
18c still, and clear skies with beautiful views of the stars.
Camping out in the garden with the kids and dog to see how that might work…. Not going well so far, the little sh!t has punctured two air beds and going nuts. (For clarity, that’s the dog not one of the kids).

Piggin' rain has been relentless. Trouble is there's no wind to blow the clouds somewhere else, so it's just hanging around like a Stranglers song. It had better be stopped by tomorrow - I'm only working one day next week, and Monday is that day.
It's still going strong here too. Must be close to 24 hours of continual rain now and supposed to carry on for another 15 yet.

We've had 30 hours of non stop rain, and it's still going. Supposed to clear in a couple of hours though. Be interesting to see what the river looks like.

The Saône, near where it joins the Rhône. We sat outside as I wanted to take photographs, despite the flat grey light. It didn't rain after all, but it was chilly.
Went down the shop - dead leaves in the gutters, a chill in the air. It's autumn.

Another warm sunny day again - I think we'll be having this for the rest of the week, with rain returning on Saturday night, just in time to ruin the car boot sales. Again.
We were at a boot sale today. At times it was quite warm and at other times quite windy.
Boot sales depress me, but my partner loves them: both buying and selling. There is nothing there that interest me - I'm sick of the vinyl vampires who have formed a virtual cabal.
House clearance traders really depress me. Quite often part of someone's former belongings are unceremoniously dumped on the ground. These were once somebody's treasured belongings.
When I shuffle off this mortal coil, I shall arrange for my LP and CD collection to go to a charity, where hopefully it will benefit the charity and not selfish traders.

I agree, boot sales are depressing for the reasons you outline. I only go for the CDs (an increasingly fruitless search) and the occasional work-related sundries if they are a lot cheaper than the shops. The proportion of sellers who are actually traders has grown to such an extent that the boot sales would be better described as 'Sunday markets'.
But when I'm gone my records and CDs will go to Anita (who will not be letting them go for pennies, she's sharp as a tack).

Yes, I know what you mean. A few years ago I took a lot of photographic art books to Oxfam and all were in very good condition. One was by David Bailey, and to my surprise I later saw it locked in a display case with a £85 price tag. :eek:
Obviously all charity shops have to maximise their assets, and now look at online fora to see what a reasonable selling price might be. Oxfam make the mistake of simply looking at the price, with little or no regard for condition.
For example all Decca SXL recordings have a high asking price, yet many are in poor, or indifferent, condition.
I guess like any shop, if it doesn't sell they'll eventually knock the price down.
Another fabulous day here. Autumn has been better weather than summer here, at least so far.

Similar for me last night but in a different order - I had a bath after which I read a book.
Cloudy start to the day, but forecast to be mostly sunny with a high of 19C. Similar to how it's been all week, and set to be this way until Sunday night. This is according to the Met Office, BBC Weather says rain on Sunday. I think I'll stick with Met Office from now on, nicer forecasts :)

Went to our usual boot-sale this morning. Bought a book (50p) and four CDs (10p each), still sealed. Saw a Leak Stereo 30 amp and Troughline tuner in poor cosmetic condition, so I didn’t ask the price.
stuck my head out and storm's finished, just spitting a bit.
Decided to go down the shop. Got halfway, there's a huge rumble of thunder and it starts hammering down again. Rain like you see in the films, where it's unrealistically heavy and comes straight down.
Some lightening going off too.
So now I'm soaked. On plus side have got a can of beer.

The 'buying and selling' is all down to my partner. My job is solely to drive and help set up the tables.
But having done that, I will wander around to see what other sellers are selling. I long gave up with looking at CDs and LPs (I can't be bothered to wade through boxes and boxes of the former, and the condition of the latter is never sufficient to justify the asking price), and now only look at books and, purely out of interest, audio gear, especially if it is "vintage".
Sadly the rain didn't hold off, and we got wet. Nonetheless, despite packing up early, my partner had made a reasonable profit.

Oh well, at least it wasn't a washout financially :) I agree about the CD and vinyl situation, I just don't have the patience to wade through all the crap any more. But I can usually tell what they will be like with just a cursory glance. This method does throw up occasional worthwhile purchases, and also it gets me round the boot sale pretty quickly.
Given up on their vinyl completely.
Very rarely is there any audio gear I would give house room to, certainly nothing that would be worth the grief I'd get back home - I already have a growing pile of stuff I'm too lazy to sell on.

Frost on the car this morning. We normally get to the other side of October before this happens. 14.5C in the house, heating kicks in at 15.
We're at a boot sale at the moment. Took me about 15 minutes to defrost the car. My partner doesn't understand that defrosting the windscreen on the outside can cause the inside to mist up.
17.5C in my living room this morning, coldest it's been so far but no sign of frost.

If up to me, I would leave it at 20C.

:eek: 25C? Rather warm and rather expensive. Might work out cheaper to spend your winter days at the pub/cinema/leisure centre/library/another country/in the car/on the bus. Anywhere but home.

Just had a poke around Google, and I read that every 1C increase in room temperature adds about 10% to your heating bill. I read it here:

So the cost difference between 20C and 25C could mean £300 per month up from £200. So I suppose an extra 3 quid or so per day is a (relatively) small price to pay for comfort.
I also read that a comfortable temperature for women is 25C, as opposed to 22.2C for men. A compromise may be found if our partners were to wrap up warm while we go round the house in our 'budgie smugglers'. We just have to remember when someone comes to the door :o

Yes. We have a house there. It's 280 miles north of the equator, so heat is not a problem - just the opposite in fact, but we do have air conditioning in all the rooms.

Same here, too cold to be spending time outside. A good day to go sofa shopping. No, I take that back - there's never a good day to be spending big chunks of money on non-hifi stuff :( Ok so they recline, but that just makes getting up to change the record more of a thing. Anita thinks I'm turning into a grumpy old git, dunno why she thinks that.
Raining here now. Proper miserable afternoon and there's not even a decent film on.

Rained all night, and it's still chucking it down. Another day of stopping in :( Put the heating on last night, for the first time since last spring.

All this rain combined with tomorrow's high tide at Preston (11am) might be a good test for the flood defence walls they built last year. I think I'll make a special trip, it's only a couple of miles out of my way,

:lol: No, I shouldn't laugh really...
I don't think Preston gets it particularly bad, the last proper flooding was with Storm Desmond in 2015, affecting about 200 properties. Maybe when the defences are completed those residents will be able to get home insurance. Because the insurance companies are behind everything that does or doesn't get done these days.
