Record clamps or weight suggestions

Tried searching the forum and found a few bits of info. But specifically looking for recommendations for a clamp to be used on Technics 1210 gr2. Open to alternative suggestions but for last few years have used a clamp . Looking at a record doctor low profile or possibly Michell clamp. Open to suggestions even better if used on technics

Hi Colin, my Technics SL1200-based turntable uses a record weight rather than a clamp, and is probably less of a faff. And the turntable's high torque D/D motor has no problem driving the additional weight.

It's a solid lump of stainless steel and prob weighs about 500g or so (I can't find the kitchen scales!). Probably about the same weight as this one:

The blurb says that its high mass may make it unsuitable for some suspended turntables, but that won't be a problem for you.

Just weighed my record weight and it is exactly 1kg... don't know why it has to be that heavy when most weights are half that, but I suppose they know what they're doing.

How many revolutions do you think you'll get before it seizes up?

Suspect the weight is a 3rd party one unless stamped with Inspire on it. As I understand it most higher end TTs with good bearings can take more weight, but not all. Heavy weights on suspended TTs can be problematic.

The benefits are from what I have read a heavier weight ensures firm contact of the whole record surface to the platter minimising vibrational reflections in it and to the cartridge. The Origin Live Gravity One is an interesting design I would like to try at some point.

Well it's been going for 11 years now (not continuously mind) with no issues. As far as I know they are still being used on current models, and if there'd been an issue they would have been modified or replaced by now.

A lot of turntables have really heavy platters which amounts to the same thing as far as bearings are concerned.

Just had a quick read up on that Gravity One - looks interesting, but rather pricey. Be nice if you could 'try before you buy', because I suspect it would benefit some turntables more than others.

I looked at the Gravity 1 as it looks interesting have got a weight coming but may also get a clamp for comparison. Have used a clamp for last few years but sold it recently with the TT as it was supplied with it. One arrives next week so when clamp comes I will see if there is any noticeable difference

When I purchased my Origin Live turntable recently, I asked about adding the Gravity but the dealer was a bit unsure about it, could be he just hadn’t heard one , although I’m still thinking about adding it.

Well turntable arrived, origin live mat on it as I had one and preferred using it before. And ordered a weight for the TT. Audiozomba one. So it’s all a bit of a new se5 up, lounge LCR phono , Technics 1210 gr2 and AT 95 ns . It’s great really enjoying it and does th3 weight make a difference. It does but not huge. It just seems to put everything in a bit more focus. May add a clamp for a comparison

But enjoying it like the phono it’s very good

I’ve used a Gravity One for a year now on my Technics SL-1210M5G and wouldn’t change it for anything after comparing with other well known Puck/Weights.
The Gravity One is not about putting weight on the record but more about damping resonances within the vinyl.
