No new news here, but for the benefit of any folks who still aren't familiar with it...
I used to run Mission 752 Freedoms (the model with the silk dome tweeter and inverted drivers, not the original 752). They'd been characteristically warm and smooth anyway, but over time they darkened to a point where it seemed the tweeters had "gone". Meanwhile I'd got upgradeitis and they were stored away.
I read about the ferrofluid issue a while back and finally got round to giving it a try last week. The assembly on the Freedoms makes replacing it a doddle - very intuitive to pick apart and rejoin afterwards, simpler than other tweeters that I've seen on YouTube. The main challenge is to avoid overfilling with new ferrofluid since you need no more than 0.2ml.
The old ferrofluid that I removed didn't seem particularly gunky and I wondered whether I was wasting my time. Also, there seems to be a counter-view on some forums regarding the value of this exercise, suggesting that ferrofluid improved after the '80s and the Freedoms are a '90s model.
All I can say is that the tweeters have come alive again, eg doing the obvious by playing Dark Side Of The Moon and the clocks at the beginning of "Time" are in full effect. I can see what I always liked about these speakers.
Anyway, I'm years after the event with this but just wanted to move it back up the agenda since it can be an easy win.
