Hi All
Another very regrettable sale, I purchased this from Rob (open door) in March and he has kindly given permission for me to paste his original ad and pics below.
All I can add really is to fully confirm what an utterly beguiling and gorgeous phono stage this is, the music just pours out of the speakers in a beautiful liquid and silky tone but with plenty of punch when required, it really is an end game phono stage.
£1200 plus insured postage at cost, or collection from Lewes E Sussex.
It didn’t come with a box, but I can pqckqge to within an inch of its life.
Cheers
Rich
PhaSt Phonopre MM / MC valve phonostage special edition with C-Core & Lundahl transformers
I managed to import this out of the Ukraine some months back as a special order direct. I have owned a few pieces of Phast and therefore know their owner and was able to discuss the spec for this build.
Phast roll their own transformers as is the case with the separate power supply being a C-core type, and valve regulated. Reg valve is aNOS Tungsram EZ80, fixed regulator is a NewClassD Mk1, fuse is a Synergistic Research Red, gold Furutech IEC inlet and as the pics will show some nice capacitor counts with the likes of Audio Note.
Before getting to the internal bits of the actual phonostage, the wood is a local Ukrainian hard wood and looks superb. Usually the natural red colour is on display but this one is gloss black which is no longer an optional extra.
The chassis is all copper for improved shielding.
This is a 3 valve design around 1 x ECC83 and 2 x ECC81’s (can be swapped for ECC83 for more gain).
The first valve is used for the input amplifier, the second one for RIAA features and the third one serves as the output cathode repeater.
The rectifying valve EZ80 is app
This MM/MC version is equipped with the Lundahl LL1941 transformer upgrade for MC cartridges.
Superb component count…
ECC81’s are NOS Mullard and Siemens, 12AX7 is a NOS Mullard.
Internal stage caps are Mundorf ZN and Miflex copper in oil types, output caps are Mundorf Sipreme Evo Silver Gold.
You wil see in the photos the sweet resistor array of Vishay Z-Foil, Takman, Kiwane and Amtrans AMRG.
RCA’s are by CMC, silver plated.
Plenty of settings… no manual. Phast recommend setting this up by ear. O found this to be true in once I set the phonostage to match the cartridge, a couple tweaks did bring a better sound. If you are bag in to vinyl play back the settings will be a breeze for you, experimenting is a must though.
Noise and hum 85dB
230v unit
0.2V MC compatible
An expensive piece to buy, and a very rare find. Each build by Phast is to order and they accomodate spec requests. Something like this should be circa £3000 direct if you can sort the carriage out of West Ukraine.
Selling for £1450 or nearest offer. Will be well packed. Free U.K. shipping.
Top plate has some minor marks.
Sound is ultra smooth and melodic, a beautiful listen. Excels on mids and vocals. Not the most potent in the bass would be the only criticism compared to solid state and hybrid designs. But to get lost in the music this is a great piece.
Little play time on this as I got out of vinyl before it was even run in.
