Can anyone tell me anything about this cable ??

A mate gave me this the other day for helping sort out his system as it came free with a pair of speakers I found for him :

I think I'm right in assuming it's made by the Chord Company ?
It's got Carnival written along it, it's a bi-wired pair of 4m each and has some weird connectors at one end which I think are something to do with Linn and their pre-amps.
I think they're called Linn Safety Connectors or something like that.

I have never seen that kind of plug before.
I've never used Chord cables either.

I'm assuming I'd have to remove the Linn connectors to be able to connect these to the back of my Meridian monoblocks but I don't know if it's worth it ??

Any advice will be gratefully received :scratch:

Looks like plugs someone added to unterminated lengths, the 'official' Chord ones look nothing like that.

I have some bi-wire Odyssey 2 but I never use it, always seems to me like it is too thin for speaker cable.

Maybe, but there is a Chord Carnival, and the wire and the white sleeve/jacket whatsit, looks exactly like Chord cables.

It's not a Chord cable. The Chord 'Carnival' bi-wire speaker cable has four conductors enclosed in a single overall circular sheath.

Your cable has a "figure of 8" geometry, whereby each 'half' of the 'eight' has two conductors having red and white coloured insulation. The printing of "Carnival Bi-wire" on the outer sheath does not guarantee it's a Chord product - more likely a poor Chinese copy.

As Martin says, the individual wires are too thin. However if you join together the two in each pair at each end, to make a conventional two conductor cable, that would be better.

I don't ask that many questions so I forget how clued up everyone is in here.

I don't think I can be arsed to muck about with it, especially seeing as I'm happy with the cables I'm using.
I'll probably just flog it on eBay and use the money for a takeaway with the mate who gave me them :D

Looks like Carnival bi-wire to me. The early stuff from about 2004.

Agreed - it does look identical to Paul's cable.

It is quite different to the current Chord 'Carnival' bi-wire speaker cable.

is it cyrus BFA plugs at one end ?

I think so but they were connected to a Linn amp so I'm not sure what brand the actual plugs are.
