Another Billy Bargain for you lucky people!

Will take £70 collected from Romford, Essex.

Bought this off Robert / Open Door on here in 2019 and I must say the unit is beautifully made, here's Robert's original listing -

pic passive stereo centre channel / soundbar? Tannoy drivers.

Built this as was not enjoying the soundbars about on the market and also as an experiment. Decent soundbars also cost the earth!

What I wanted was to use a dedicated amp and DAC rather than those included within an off the shelf soundbar.

So the box was made my Wilmslow Audio and is oak veneered with a grey detachable grill.

Speaker and crossovers are from Tannoy 605‘s Mk2.

But as you can see in the photos, the crossovers were upgraded with Mills resistors and ClarityCap CSA capacitors. Binding posts are by CMC and internal wiring is by Van den Hul. Binding post blanks are aluminium and chunky as seen in the photos.

Front two feet are large rose wood domes and the back feet are small rubber types. This was done to angle up the soundbar for the listeners and to be stable.

Sounds great as you can imagine compared to a ‘soundbar’. It is not good in terms of replacing a proper stereo set up due to the driver placements and proximity to each other. But for TV, movies, music shows etc it is a big upgrade.

This unit is designed to be as close to the rear wall as possible (bass limited otherwise) to allow for a compact install / placement.

In the end I had it strapped to an integrated Marantz with built in DAC that worked well (also for sale).

I’ll be able to create suitable packaging to post. But prefer collection.

£130 collected
£150 posted

A rarity / one off.

Suppose it could be used as a bespoke discreet speaker in a dining room, on top of a sideboard etc? Good in bedroom for TV etc.

I have heard of 'listener fatigue', but 'speaker fatigue' is a new one on me. Is the sound bar having a good lie down after having played a few hours of heavy metal?

Only kidding, GLWS. :)

Made me chuckle, thanks Barry.

Sadly I don't imagine there will be any prospective buyers in these hallowed halls for this or the other small speakers I'm selling, all active members being mostly satisfied with their equipment (Matron).

Thanks for looking anyhoo :)

If it wasn't for the height blocking my TV I would consider this as a significant upgrade on my current soundbar.

That was precisely my problem Lawrence, I considered building a stand to raise the telly but that would have looked clumsy.

Shame but it would fit nicely on a shelf under the TV. Sadly mine has a PVR, Xbox and Blu ray player on it already!

Guess if you were handy you could turn this back into a pair of speakers, £30 for a pair of Tannoys got to be a bargain?

Withdrawn, going to have a play with them.
