Hello all

My current "system", if you can call it that, consists of my smartphone and a pair of Sony XM4's. My late father was an audiophile and he loved buying speakers and bits of other kit. Unfortunately, I have permanent hearing damage and the audiophile experience is somewhat lost on me.

My father passed a number of years ago and I'm currently redecorating in order to sell up and move my mother closer to me as she's living alone and getting on in her years.

He has left a considerable amount of bulky kit that I assume cost a pretty penny back in the day and I'd like some expert advice on whether any of it has resale value or is now junk. I hope this is an acceptable reason for me to join this forum!

Even though you have impared hearing that should not stop you enjoying music, whatever the genre. Some of us here, myself included, have age-related high frequency hearing loss, yet still enjoy listening to music.

Regarding your late father's collection of quality audio equipment, we will have a look - I'm sure someone here will be able to advise you.

I agree with Barry, many of us here have hearing problems, myself included, but still enjoy the music. So don't let that put you off, there's always something can be done :)

If I didn't have bad tinnitus my system would sound dreadful!

My hearing has been bad for a week or so, likely due to wax or an inner ear infection.

I tried using a steroid nasal spray to clear up blocked eustachian tubes. Seems to be working and now hearing appears to be being restored and music sounds a lot better. Using headphones a lot doesn’t seem to help with hearing, and also air travel frequently makes things worse.

Now vibraphones and similar tinkly percussion things are starting to sound much pleasanter - plus “stereo” has largely come back too.
