was raining but it stopped so took the opportunity to nip round the corner to the Sainsburys.
Was only in there ten minutes but when I came out - torrential rain.
Hung about under the awning thinking 'It's just a shower' but after ten minutes it showed no sign of stopping so zipped up my jacket and headed back. Got soaked - as in jump in a swimming pool fully clothed soaked.
Needless to say the second I got back to my door it stopped. Sun is out now.
We were visiting friends yesterday and whilst there were the occasional light showers, they didn't last long. However whilst we were in the restaurant having lunch it started to rain, quickly becoming a torrential "stair rod" downpour. Five minutes later it stopped and the sun came out.
On the way back to our hotel, driving down a narrow country road, as I came around a bend I saw a car in front of me broadside across the road! What had happened was the brief, but torrential, downpour had caused an impassable flood where there was a 'sump' in the road. The driver was having to do an umpteen point turn in the narrow road. Obviously I had to do the same, but my car being shorter it only needed a 5 point turn.
I then had to find somewhere convenient to park to find an alternative route. My sat nav would be no good as it wouldn't know about the flood, so Google maps came to my rescue, confirming the route I had in mind. Thank goodness for modern technology!

About the same here. I'm missing the weather we left behind in France already, though the 33C in Clermont Ferrand was a bit much. Fortunately Anita drove all the time while I just looked out of the window ad took charge of the air con :)
But I despair of British roads - the last leg from Dover to Chorley was eight hours of increasingly soggy hell. Icing on the cake was 'a broken down vehicle' in Staffordshire which added another 45 minutes. That's Smart motorway, which tells me the car broke down between those infrequent lay-bys. Bag of shite! So we ducked into Staffordshire services to wait for the worst to be over, and while drinking our five quid coffees we got to to look out at their giant duck pond complete with impressive fountain (not quite Geneva) and a rather large brown rat scavenging food intended for the ducks.
Y'know, apart from the crap weather this is the best country in the world, as long as you have nowhere you need to be.

Thanks Barry, yes we had a great time.
Anita takes driving abroad in her stride, much better than me. And the way she coped with going round Paris was really impressive (most Parisians drive it like they stole it, with the motorcyclists filtering between lanes of traffic at near motorway speeds :eek:
The autoroutes are so much better than our motorways, the condition is generally excellent with next to no roadworks. Less crowded too, and I have a theory about that - because of the tolls, the locals probably avoid them for short trips, whereas we will get on at one junction to get off at the next...
I believe all the smart motorway projects have been shelved, but the ones already under construction will still be completed, so it looks like we're stuck with what we have.
Now 17C with some sunshine.
Took the opportunity to wash down and clean the garden furniture ready for the weekend.
been looking like rain here for a few hours but not happened yet.
Starting from Sunday it looks a little better. Warmer, not windy, some sunshine.
Finally it's started raining. It's been wanting to all day.

In my case an opportunity to cut the grass.

Week ahead looks poor - around 17C every day, but with rain off and on and high winds.

That's the lawn done, so I can feel a little smug too. Almost.
I say almost because a few weeks ago we made a flagged area in the back garden into a lawn. Or rather a 'man who can' did. The turf is looking pretty established now and ready for its first cut. Looks like I'm making more work for myself, but really mowing (it's only 5m x 4m) is easier than power
washing and weeding all the cracks.
I'll do that later after me tea.
Then we just have to take delivery of the garden furniture and we'll be ready for the summer that never was.
First proper summer's morning today. Lasted until about 1400 then it was heavy rain. Seems to have stopped now but was predicted to carry on until lunchtime tomorrow.

Rained all night, today's been dull and muggy with occasional showers.

Patterns in the weather (in towns and cities at least) are probably influenced by air pollution patterns brought about by commuting traffic density. That would be my guess.
We had much nicer weather during that lockdown spring. Just sayin'.

Same here, which is nice. Unfortunately that will mean some gardening chores, and I really can't be arsed. Anyway, the weed'n'feed recommended to us for the new lawn quite clearly states that using it on a lawn newer than 6 months is a no-no. So that gets me out of it till next March at least :)
Hopefully the dryness will continue tomorrow, we plan on using the bikes to visit a more distant car boot we haven't been to in ages.
Bit humid today so got the window open. Someone living very near to me seems to have acquired a rooster. It's been crowing for about an hour now.

Now 22C and the sky is clearing, the sun is out.
A bit uncomfortable in the direct sun, but the occasional breeze helps.
Just come back from a boot sale - in my partner's words (who is keen aficionado) "The boot sale today was very poor". I have to agree: these days there is a lot of rubbish on display.
What is sad is to see house clearance sellers who just dump things on the ground; not that that stops the 'vinyl vultures' from delving in, or professional buyers with their little four wheel carts.
Still 23c and sunny, set to be a bit cooler and cloudier tomorrow which works for me as I am off to Snetterton again to watch some car racing.
rained for an hour or so I think but long stopped now. Got wet going to collect my tea so it timed it well

It was ok here Barry, our local car boot was the busiest I've ever seen it. All the regular parking was full, I had to go on the adjacent Bolton Wanderers' stadium car park. I only got round about a quarter of it, because I wanted to get home and play out on my bike.
So my meagre haul:
Squeeze "Babylon and On". Sleeve and vinyl look like new. £5.
Sade "Lovers Rock" CD 50p
Peter Green Splinter Group 50p. I know nothing about this, not big up on Peter Green. Amazon calls it a "Mid price CD edition of their 1997 debut album".

I mean even on the almost impossible off-chance that there was an O'Conner fan wandering about the boot sale, they're still not likely to buy LPs with covers that are badly worn and damaged, and are sat out in the rain getting even worse by the minute.

Talk of watches on here reminded me that my late father had owned a couple of very early digital ones he bought in the mid 1970s while working out in Asia. Since they're worth a few bob now I mentioned it to my mother - not wanting her to chuck them out as tat during a clear out.
So we had a look but could not find them anywhere.
Next day my brother turns up and is showing me an Omega he just got. Then he says 'Dad had a couple of the early digital watches but I looked for them a few years back and I couldn't find them'. Turned out he'd even scoured the attic.
So I'm fairly confident anything worth having is already gone. He's probably had that Dansette away too.

Yep, it does sound like not much gets past your brother, like he'll always be at the front when there's free stuff to be had. But you're probably like me, thinking life's too short to be bothered by that sort of thing.

You're right about them Dansettes - as much as 500 quid being asked for them :eek: It can only be a nostalgia/hipster thing - even with the Garrard autochangers (probably a lot better than the BSR equivalents) the sound could no doubt be bettered by a £50 smart speaker.

Like those 1970s teak sideboards that were in every house I ever rented since not a single person on the planet wanted them. And which now sell for two grand.
I'm not surprised. Teak is a hardwood, and therfore slow growing. It was so popular then, that now there is an embargo on the use of teak to try and restore numbers.
Nowadays nothing is made of real wood - it's all plywood, chipboard, and wood particle and resin composite. Then the "wood" is clad in what the industry calls 'foil laminate'. :doh:
And you still have to pay a lot for anything made out of it - just look at the price IKEA charge for their Billy CD towers and Kallax LP cubes.

Rain started about 9am, really heavy stuff, and stuck around for a couple of hours, long enough to get us soaked. Then stopped. Stayed dry long enough for us to dry out then started again. I love British weather, me.

Been a month since mine and next door's were emptied since for the last collection I was in London. I told the student next door he would have to put them out but he forgot.
If you put them out too early the council are there like hawks to fine you. The only thing they are competent at.

All students are poxy by definition but he's a postgrad and has a job, so that's a grey area.

He finished his degree and now doing a three year masters degree, but he has a part time job too.
Very hard to spot students these days. In theory there are thousands of them round here, it being the 'University Quarter' but everyone remarks how they never see any of them.
The trenchcoats should be made compulsory and then we'd all know where we stand.

There are so many things to be put out for collection, we put them out the night before. My alchy mate Big Al has bushes either side of the path to his door. Got to the point where they had totally grown across the path and you had to force your way through.
He got a cordless hedge cutter and a rickety step ladder and went out to trim them down. After doing in a whole bottle of Scotch. Much hilarity ensued.

I think I may cut down my council tax payments to every other month, see how they like it.

Don't ger me wrong - I'm pleased with the idea of recycling; better that than have everything go into landfill.
I probably belaboured the effort one has to make in segregating items, but it's not too difficult. The only time it is a bit of a bother is the segregation of paper and cardboard (the latter of which includes egg boxes), and the removal of those little cellophane 'windows' used on some envelopes. Padded bags will go in the general waste.
Since collection is made by different companies, the actual time varies, though all are usually collected by midday.

No I don't have two bins for food waste, but it's pretty rare that I chuck out food. If I do have any waste I bag it up and keep it in the bottom of the fridge then it goes in the bin on collection day.
Got the bin all cleaned out now so time for second breakfast. I do stink of bleach though.

:doh::doh::doh: I didn't explain that very well did I - no, it's only the garden waste collection which is chargeable. So £60 for the two bins. Most round here have just the one bin, and I don't know how they manage as there's a lot of gardens round here. I suppose they could bag up the excess and run it to the tip for free, but with fuel costs as they are it doesn't seem worth the effort.
And yes, I have found myself 'weeding' the road gutters this last few years :(

Sun and light cloud here, and quite warm. No rain forecast for today, and should be staying dry for most of next week. I could do with a few paying jobs so I can claw back some of the £400 my crappy Vito has taken off me for an alternator, but I think next week will be mostly gardening stuff. Including taking the cordless strimmer I've just ordered on its maiden voyage.

Nowt wrong with that. All our lives we come up against blokes who talk about having 15 pints or more on a night out, like it's something to be proud of. I can reach the same level of wrecked-ness at a quarter of the cost.
I make a bit of an exception at NEBO, but when faced with an all-day pub and nowhere you need to be... :)

Same here. Just as was forecast, which makes a nice change. Strange really, I don't have much faith in the BBC Weather app on my phone, yet I always watch and believe the forecast on 'Countryfile'.

Might go up the record shop if it's not too warm.

19C now, but in the sun it is too warm for working - just finished building 4 metres of closeboard fencing in the back garden, which only took me an hour thanks to my most expensive and least used power tool, a cordless nail gun. Still got a rotary dryer to postmix into the ground, and a bit of pointing for next door. That can wait till the sun goes round the other side.

A bright 15c so far
28c and sunny. Dropped wife and kids off at airport at 04:30 and got to see a beautiful sunset on the drive home. Due to poorly dog we can’t have a family holiday this summer so they are in Croatia for 5 nights. It’s only 2 degrees warmer there, so I get the last laugh being left home alone.
Except I won’t be laughing in 3 weeks time when it’s my turn to go on holiday with the kids for 4 days camping in North Norfolk, when you can pretty much guarantee I’ll be making a suitable crap weather post in Crap Weather for August…
Croatia is a great country to visit - your wife and kids will have a lovely time there.

Like when you borrowed your younger brother's bike to go to the shop because you couldn't be arsed to get yours out the shed and his was just lying in the yard where he'd left it
It felt wrong and it looked wrong but it was only two minutes down the road and back so your mates probably wouldn't see you.
Is this new trend for grown men on children's bikes just round here or has anyone else spotted them? I've seen a few recently.

No it's not that new, I've seen them for some years now. Usually you'll find a group of the scumbags hanging round Spar shops, mostly on their own two legs but there's always one of them sat on one of these bikes that looks like it's been taken off some poor kid heading home from school. I think he's the getaway driver.

The author of that article (Barney Davis) clearly isn't a fan, referring to it as 'dreaded flying ant day'. He goes on to say that 'if you do get bitten or stung, do not be alarmed', but fails to distinguish between black ants (which don't bite and account for 90% of flying ants) and red ants (who are a right bunch of bastards). That's lazy journalism Barney, it only took me a few minutes to learn the facts.
