Hi All

Picked up one of these today but my normal 5 pin din has no output to my power Technics SE A909 what am i doing wrong output from pre to input on power? which one would i need to purchase the pre is working through the pre headphones bare with me

You may need to open the unit up and see how the 5 pins are wired. If you have a multimeter with "beep" continuity with the innards of the Din socket exposed plug the lead in and check which pins make a beep when you touch the signal or screen parts of the phono plug to see which of the 5 pins is connected...or not. Have a search on the net to see if there are different ways to wire a 5 pin din plug.

All DIN leads are wired 'pin for pin'. That is pin1 on the plug at one end is connected to pin1 of the plug at the other end, and the same follows for the rest of the pins.

I would have thought A&R would have followed this convention and used pins corresponding to "tape output" for the preamp and those corresponding to "tape input" for the power amp. Have a look at the article in The Knowledge under Audio Connectors for details.

That said, some manufacturers, notably Naim use their own convention.

Can you add a photo of the rear doesn't it have phono outs?
