Cool, hoping to see more "basic" systems show up as file audio gets more common.
It's the sound that comes out of the boxes that's important, not the number of boxes and the probabliity the central heating got made redundant

Indeed Jonboy, 13 years with Naim was a bit to long so it was time for a change, next will be the Dacmagic but I aint sure what to get hold of and what will work best with the Luxman. The DM is quite a special piece of kit for the money but with rega and Audiolab bringing out new stuff it might be worth a try, or even a Dac with a tube out put stage.

The Jamo's can sound truly lovely for a passive speaker but when choosing matching gear, watch their bass reproduction, which can be a tad under-damped and "fruity" if you get it wrong ;)

Amp is the Eastern Electric M88 all valve, wonderful piece of kit, Dac is the Young and the speakers are Audio Physic Yara II Classics.

All in all its the best sounding system Ive put together to date, I never realised that valves were this good, spending on average at least 3 hours a night listening to music

I've had quite a few Luxman amps over the years, they are really special. Did you buy yours from an authorised outlet? Hopefully not ebay! You've got me thinking again, I was offered the Class A (ex display) a while back for £2k and like a fool I turned it down. Wow, i'm green with envy now ;)

I brought it from a guy on the Wam, I must admit my new EE amp sounds much better than the L505u

For the money mate they are awesome, they really are, absolute no digital harshness and very analogue sounding. These Dacs IMO punch well above their weight

In a nutshell mate they are great speakers, the midrange is to die for. I took a chance on them as I brought them secondhand and did not get the opportunity to listen to them in my room. I did hear a pair at the whittlebury show the other week being demod in a non AN system and fell in love with the sound they produced, plus Ive always liked the AN sound when its being demo'd at shows all be it in a full AN system. My other intention was to buy them with a view to moving up thhe scale to J's but in all honesty these work pretty well in my 12'x12' room and I think the J's would be too much.

Just need to sort out the speaker cable, what was the Connex cable like that you used with yours?

Quite a few actually, here goes

CA Dacmagic - OK sounding DAC, good for the money
Naim Dac - Over priced, not that much better than the Dacmagic!
M2Tech Young - really nice sounding dac, very smooth
Audiolab CDQ - Nice DAC but nothing special IMO
Northstar Esentio - Didn't sound very good in my system, bit flat and uninvolving
Metrum Octave - Again bit flat, just couldnt get it to work in my system for some reason

All of the above all had that digital sound to them that i wasn't looking for, when I heard the Joilda I brought it the next day, this was THE SOUND I WAS LOKING for, might not be want you want though, it is very analogue soundig, probably as close to vinyl Ive heard in my system!

Lee,

I've never had SET tubes in my system until my recent change to the Meishu Silver. I am finding that the 9 watts that it produces with my temporary speakers, Epos M12 (8 ohm/90 db efficiency) will definitely go as loud as I need in my listening room/family room. Do you find the Empress Silver using 2A3 tubes gives you sufficient power for your desired loudness levels, through the AN-K/SPes?

I ask as I have heard several people say that they are the most beautiful sounding tubes of all, but that you need really efficient speakers to run them. Of course, Audio Note design them to run together, just wondering whether you feel like you have enough power or could use a bit more?

Hi Don

There is ample power mate, I use a passive LDR Preamp, I rarely go past the 9 o clock setting which fills the room (12' x 12')easily, also the K speakers are only rated at 90db which is quite low for Audio Note.

Hope this helps

Lee
