Hello, I registerd a while ago, but didn't introduce myself, so I thought it about time I did.

My name is Simon & I live in the midlands.

My system is as follows - Fletcher Audio Omega point 5 turntable, Fletcher Zero arm & Lyra Skala cartridge, this plays into a Croft Micro 25R pre - S7R power. Speakers are Proac Responce 1SC's.
Cables are Atlas Titan interconnects & Atlas Ascent 3.5 speaker cables.

Music taste is very wide, Bowie, Roxy, Pink Floyd, ie mum & dads old records, through to Porcupine Tree, Arcade Fire, Steven Wilson, Level 42, The Smiths, Funk & cont jazz, in fact most things but no classical or the rubbish radio 1 play!

Now, you haven't had that Fletcher Audio turntable for very long, have you (I wasn't aware they'd gone into production just yet as Tom's favourite and longest standing dealer hadn't received them as of a week or two ago) ;) What system did you have before?

The TT is kind of on loan/test until the production ones arrive in the country, which should be very soon.

My other deck is a Notts 294 with a SME 312s arm (this will be sold in due course)

I'v tried other speakers & I have to say non come close in my system & room, I love em.

Welcome to AoS - nice system and room! :)

I know what most of your gear is, but a full system list would be useful, particularly what all the boxes are on the second shelf of your rack, well more specifically what the sliver looking one is in the middle, as I suspect the other two are your phono stage and T/T PSU.

Once I know that, I may have a set-up suggestion for you :cool:

Hi John.

The TT is the top model in Tom Fletchers new range of decks, there is also an Omega point 1, which is some way of being available & the point 3, which along with the 5 will be in the UK very soon.
As you can see it is a rigid deck, the base is made of an undisclosed wood, all I can say is it's soft wood & quite light, the platter is solid ally & on the point 5 is 60mm thick.
It uses the same motor as the Nottingham decks & like them is push start, the motor is isolated from the base by a soft o-ring.
There's not much more I can say other than it sounds fantastic.

Hi Marco, thanks for the welcome.
The pure sound unit on the left is a T10 mk2 step up tx, the silver unit is an Arcam Ipod dock (just used for background music or when i'v had more than two beers), the unit on the right is indeed the ps for the TT, its a wave mechanic as used on Nottingham decks, the deck can be used without it.
The current set up with one arm has the step up tx behind the deck to the left, this stops hum, & the Croft Riaa has gone from under the pre.

Thanks for that.

Ah, so the Croft box under the preamp is your phono stage... Fair enough. I thought it might've been a power amp or PSU, and so was going to recommend that you moved the preamp, as sitting a preamp directly on top of a power amp or PSU is not a good idea.

There may be some mileage though in moving the preamp up onto the second shelf (on top of the isolation platform) and your T10 down to where the phono stage is, if you can find another home for the iPod dock. In my experience, preamps love extra isolation.

The T/T PSU could then be moved down to the bottom shelf and placed on top of the power amp, thus keeping units with large transformers together and also away from the other kit (if the connecting cable is long enough).

If you can manage to do that, I reckon your system will sound even better than it does now :)

Hi Marco,

The third photo shows the current set up, although not easy to see the pre has its own shelf & sits on an isolation platform, it also has sorbothane feet under it, as you suggested, this has improoved the sound.
It was a bit tricky to set up with the two arms & extra phono stage as the step up tx hates transformers & hums like hell:steam:, it was at the time only ever going to be temporary, that is untill I save up some pennies, as I would love to run a London Decca alongside an MC ;)
