Hi all,

Oki! Yesterday I found and bought a transvalve era Croft Epoch that GC has turned into a Charisma (old version). It has 5 6SL7, 1 ECL85 and 1 CV4048.
Could someone please explain to me how the tubes work and interact?

This pre-amp has tons of bass and midrange. Which tubes should I buy if I want a little more treble?

cheers!

Sorry, ask Glenn....

Some of his older preamps were warmer toned than strictly neutral, but the simpler Micros and certainly his current models are as bright or dull as the recordings and sources fed them.

I remember the "other" version of the SMA4 having Octal valvce bases and sounding rather "fruity" in balance. The SMA4-PP I use used 4 x ECC83's in the phono stage, 2 x ECC82's in the line stage and three valves in the power supply (ECC83, ECL86 I think and the regulator which I can't remember).

Glenn is approachable as you've no doubt found. Good luck..
