DAB is practically dead, I'd look at an internet streamer these days - something like the Eversolo DMP-A6. That plays pretty much all the internet radio stations including BBC Sounds. Your wife may also like to try Radio Paradise.

Some stations have disappeared from DAB (Planet Rock for one), it needs to be DAB+ or internet radio as Graeme suggests. I listen to 6 Music on my DAB radio, I don't know how long that will last.

You can listen to Radio 6 Music on the BBC Sounds app. You can access BBC Sounds on a phone, tablet or PC. I listen to BBC Sounds (Radio 4 and 5 Live) on my Amazon Echo 5th gen device. It is frequently on sale for £22.

If you want a device for your hifi the new Cambridge CXN100 streamer is well within your budget.

I have a spare DAB tuner.

It is a Pure DRX701ES, let me know if you are interested.

I recently bought a Rotel T11 tuner, and I'm very pleased with it. Despite 'everything' being on-line/BBC Sounds/whatever, I still use the radio a lot - R3, R4, and Classic FM mainly. A good concert on R3 using FM still produces (for me) a very pleasing sound. DAB sound quality is not up to FM standards (IMHO), but still useful for Six Music, R5 Live, etc.

New tuners are hard to get at the moment, and I got my Rotel from HyperFi (refurbished, but fine). You could also try second hand. I think that your £1K budget is much more than adequate.

Happy listening.

Regards,
Geoff

Yeah for serious listening FM with a decent aerial is the way to go, shame that choice of stations is so limited.
