I have just sanded an Oak hand rail and Oak bannister cappings back down to original wood but not sure if I want to varnish them or just wax them to bring out the natural colour.

Can anyone recommend what they would or have used to do this type of job other than varnish?

White French Polish should give nice results. It's alcohol based and easy to tidy up scratches and wear when they occur. I use it on speaker cabs and furniture. Just wax it once done and dried.

Briwax clear, really easy to put on, 2-3 applications for a good shine.
