good day today, not that cold, sun was out most of the morning.
If I didn't know better I'd say it was the start of spring. But I suspect February has some horrors in store.

Yeah, stayed dull but wasn't bad. I went shopping and did some work outside later, all perfectly tolerable.

Miserable and grey here, windy too. We were going to go and have a walk around Southport, now we can't be arsed. So I'm busy giving yesterday's records and CDs another play because they're still out and I'm feeling bone idle.
Southport - so boring the tide went out and never came back.
Pigmy Pony
04-02-2024, 13:34
Yes but it has an arcade with two decent secondhand record/CD stalls. Whatever I do, there's always a reason :) And the tide can stay out - it's the same sea that Blackpool gets, so even if the weather was nice it still looks like runny poo.

There's worse places to squander I day, I agree. :)
Sometimes my mother would insist we have a day out there 'Because there's some lovely shops.' So we only ever got to see the beach from the car on the way in.
The day was spent following her round all the shops where she would examine every single item in detail. Never bought a thing.

The right thing to do would have been to dump you out at Formby Point (proper sand there) then carry on into Southport. Then pick you up on the way home. Back then that would look like considerate parenting, these days it would be called child neglect, especially they hadn't given you a bucket and spade.

yeah, quite nice here too if cold. 5c and bright. still some big gusts
13C, but felt colder due to the wind. Now dark, gloomy and overcast. Rain (at times heavy) is forecast to be moving south.
It's raining now, not hard but enough to get you wet without an umbrella.
Very windy and heavy rain. All day. Not that cold though.
Thursday we get a blizzard. Heavy snow with gale force winds, so that's going to be fun.

We like it where we are. Most of the neighbours look after their gardens, and are a similar age to us. Some nice cars too. We are like Beverley Hillbillies lol. Chorley's like most towns, some good bits some not so good.
We do get a bit of burglaries and car crime, prob because we're close to the M61. They can have your car and be away to Manchester or Liverpool before you notice it's gone.
We are back edge of Chorley )Great Knowley really), about 400ft above sea level, so prob safe from tidal waves, but more prone to snow. Not as prone as Burnley tho :) Anita should be back in a few mins, then I'll get a traffic report. Then we have to go and get the van. I'd rather stop in.

Where I am now in West London and where I'll be in Kent after the move are coincidentally about the same height above sea level, a bit over 30 metres or 100 feet.

Apparently we are 36ft above sea level, we are only a couple of hundred yards from the Clyde, although with house in front of us there is no real sea view.

All finished Grant apart from a couple of cosmetic touches, unfortunately my tonearm appears to have damage during the move, so had to purchase a new one, which hopefully will be in place on Saturday. I have made a few other changes to the system, so hopefully everything up and running this weekend.

shame.. whats wrong with it?
Elite Audio sent their tech guy over to look at it, when he also delivered and installed the new stuff. There were problems with the tracking and anti skating and they couldn’t resolve them, hopefully everything will be ok when the new tonearm is fitted.
thats a shame.. these things are not often happy with being bumped about
snow in the morning, and sleet and some hail.
Did start to stick eventually but then turned to rain and washed it all away.

The temperatures here should rise tomorrow - but slightly. Might clear the snow - though not at all certain.
We still have warnings about snow and ice. Maybe we'll get rain instead which won't necessarily help - make things slippy and hazardous perhaps.
If the forecasts are to be believed at all things should start to ease up now with consistently positive temperatures starting tomorrow - but who knows!?

You're right, Grant - the common assumption that it is anything to do with actual pies is wrong. I believe it was something to do with the General Strike or miners' strike or something. Though it is true that Wiganners do like their pies, in fact up here there is such a thing as a "Wigan kebab", basically a pie in a barm cake :) Must admit I've had one on occasion - favourite being a peppered steak pie.
