Hi folks,
Robert (Retro) is compiling an article for the library & I am helping him in some areas.
We need some images of Sansui gear, so if anyone has any (original photos please, nothing lifted from the web) then we would like to talk to you.

Thanks guys

I can take a photo of my tuner if you like... Is it a good enough one to bother?

That would be good Hamish - is it behaving itself?

Chris, I have Sansui integrated amps on 2 of my systems, AU-505 (circa 72) and AU-G30X (circa 84) and a matching digital tuner TU-D33XL. However non of these are rare pieces and all are well loved, well used and far from pristine so I would guess not what Robert is looking for?

I'm pretty sure i have a Sansui tuner in the loft though i doubt you'll want a pic of it if Hamish has already supplied you with one ;) Again it's not a very decent one, probably lower fi than Hamishs' :eyebrows:

What you want is a pic of that odd pre amp with the weird rainbow effect colour display that i seem to remember from the 80s, no idea what that was about

Cheers Hamish - been away from the email for a few days, not had a chance to check it for a while.

Hi Chris,

I just replaced the bulb lamps of my beloved Sansui TU-717 so now fully working she is in shining form and up for a picture.
So if you like one let me know.
Via bob@vintage-electronics.net I ordered the Wege Base lamps 8mV 300mA, payed 12 dollars for a set of 4 and got 5! He's sure a nice bloke.
To place the lamps was easy, no soldering needed and me with two lefties did this jobbie in less than an hour.

Try to get a photo of the AU-217 integrated amplifier. It was one of the seminal amps of the '80s. Superb Japanese build quality, good sound and a versatile set of controls and features - all for a very reasonable price. Not everybody could afford to rush out and buy Naim. It wasn't until later that Creek made a name for themselves; their initial offering did little to inspire; sounded good but the fit and finish was poor (and so to was the reliability).

I have a pair of speakers and a tuner amp, both from around 1970
i think the speakers are sp2000 ,
The receiver is a 350a its around 20 watts per channel, but it needs the power supply caps replacing.. both would take some digging out..

cheers
steve

:lolsign: Jeez i'm such a pratt at times

I'm sitting in front of a pair of Sansui speakers that at the present are rear surrounds. Quite modern with carbon fibre woven woofers & metal dome tweeters :)

I'll haul one out shortly & get some pictures taken ;)

How the hell could i forget i had them :mental:

Ok, here's a sample picture :eyebrows: I hope you want the rest, the damn things weigh about 3 stone each & was a nightmare dragging just the one out :eyebrows:

Sorry if I have missed the boat on this one, but I mentioned this thread to an old friend with some Sansui kit a while back and he sent me a few pictures.

This AU-999 amp and TU-999 tuner were both bought new and have remained in every day use ever since. Perhaps some of the the first examples of ‘the black look’, they are though quite difficult to photograph.

We both started out with Tripletone amps and I forgot that his big Sansui also had triple tone controls, though with a choice of turnover frequencies.

Tnx Chris.
Though I have not seen sent photos yet, want to thank everyone who participated. It is essential that these are our Sansui images, regardless of which model or condition it is.Really does not matter whether it is a rare piece or not.
Thanks to everyone

My Sansui TU-717. I don't have to look further for a tuner because this one is all I wanted.
It sure got the looks and the sound is amazing. I can recommend the Sansui vintage tuners to anyone looking for good gear.
They don't build them like this anymore. So if you see one, don't hesitate.
Mine I found in a total mint state at a 2nd hand shop.
I have the bulb dial lamps changed. It was very easy job - even for me and I
got 2 lefties - the costs were about $12.

Sacha, must agree with you.TU-717 certainly is one of the best Sansui tuner, and one of the best of all time IMHO.Congratulations on your score .Try to find a companion,AU-717,and then you have a wonderful Sansui set.
