The wind is scary. We have nothing but fields between our house and the wind/gale, so we are open to everything the weather throws at us. The noise is horrendous and we are bound to have some damage even if only another fence.
I am slightly calmed by the thought that the house has been here since 1450 or so and hasn't blown over yet..
weather has been ok here. dampish but was calm. we must have midded the wind this time
tipping down all day, floods everywhere.
Some bloke in a 4x4 drove fast into one then braked hard, the water spout went about twenty foot in the air.
Hell of a wind earlier, all seems calm now though - several trees down locally according to facebook

That would be par for the course. Happily living within walking distance means I'm unaffected by the inevitable traffic chaos that always results from half an inch of snow.
Actually makes it easier as I can cross the roads at will with all the cars being stationary.
Worst is when it snows just before dark and then freezes. Once had to walk 7 mile home with all the roads and pavements like glass. That wasn't fun. Especially since about half way along I stepped in an iced over puddle. Squished the rest of the way back.

Crashing is just an uncontrolled landing.
I have been on flights much more exciting, with crosswind landings.
Prestwick was always fun, flying in on a BAe Jetstream, looking out my window along the runway.
The pilot was obviously used to it, as it was a really smooth landing.

Storm Jocelyn was forecast to be less severe than Sunday night was, but not round here - the winds are every bit as bad. There will be some more damage by morning - take care out there!

Probably the best day weather-wise since before Christmas. Not that it mattered much - apart from nipping out to get a slow puncture on the car fixed and pick up a prescription I haven't left the house.
Gone for four days without blood pressure pills thanks to our worse-than-useless pharmacists (the interior of which resembles a 1970s Russian supermarket).

7c and very wet
rained in the night and just started spitting as I was on my way home.
Not too bad, no more cold forecast before next month.
It's a leap year though so Feb one day longer. Why can't they stick the extra day on one of the warm months? And it should be a Bank Holiday as well, you're working an extra day for nothing. What a rip-off.
Why not have 12 months of 30 days each, with 5 (or 6 in a leap year) which are not attached to any month and are treated as public holidays?
Or if you don't like that idea (because 30 is not divisible by 7) then how about 13 months of 28 days, with again 1 or 2 days public holiday(s)?
The problem is our calendar is based on the Biblical number of the days of Creation, and the readily divisible number 12.
I believe after the French Revolution not only were new weights and measures based on multiples of 10 introduced, so too was a proposed calendar of 10 months of 36 days (with again 5 or 6 unattached days distributed throughout the year).
I don't think we have to go overboard. Just make August 32 days once every 4 years and an extra bank holiday once every 4

No worse than our Imperial system, which because it was based on the length of the thumb, foot and stride of the monarch of the time, changed each time they died and a new one ascended to the throne.

Apparently the tallest British monarch in history was Edward IV, who was reportedly 6' 4". But how can we know that? Were his limb lengths used to determine this, or his successor's? Imperial measure is rubbish. Maybe we dug him up and measured what was left of him.

Another grey day. But not cold, not windy, not wet, so I shouldn't grumble.
5C here but will get a bit warmer. Looks like it will stay mild all week.
Long range forecast suggests we might get another bout of cold weather towards the end of February though.

Then we'll get another load of motorists stuck in snow even though they'll have had a couple of days warning.

Beast from the East was end of February, so plenty of time for it to turn nasty. At least the days are getting longer.

yeah we're not out of the woods yet by a long chalk. Still in January which seems to have been going on forever.
Will be end of February before I'm going home from work in daylight, but it's getting there slowly.

Yeah, January has little going for it. I heard it described on the radio last week as the longest Monday of the year.
Anita came home with hot cross buns yesterday, that seems kind of early, not that I'm complaining.

Easter is at the end of March which isn't that far off - given that Xmas crap now appears in the shops at the end of September and some people put their decos up at the end of October.
Maybe we should abandon months altogether and just have the marketing periods instead?
Christmas - Easter - Back To School - Halloween - each lasting 90 days.

It's still January, so let's wait until February starts before we comment on the weather for that month.
