My amp started making a funny smell this morning, like TCP. Popped the lid and can see one burnt up resistor and one discoloured one.
Any ideas what could cause it and is there anyone local to me (stoke) who could take a look?
Any help greatly appreciated- no tunes over Christmas!

Hi Steve,
That EL84 has been taking too much current, either the valve is faulty or aged (doesn't look it) or the bias isn't right.

Looks like it's partner has been taking too much as well so my guess is the bias is incorrect.
I can fix it for you, could you bring it to me?

Hope Alan can help you. But a tip, I always keep a tiny TPA3116 amp handy as back-up for such occasions, the sound quality is good.

Hi Alan, yep, definitely. If I could drop it to you over Christmas that would be great.I've got a spare set of 84s. Thank you as always.

Geoff, I've got one of those Extron chip amps but I'm tinkering with a pair of Proac 1sc and I know it won't have enough welly for them. I'll give it a try though.
