New member John7 comes to us with an interesting avatar (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7719), and it made me wonder if there are any other examples of hi-fi in art. So, if anyone finds any, stick 'em up.

Here's the original picture that John brought to our attention:

And here's a few I found on the web

Absolutely loads of work featuring hi-fi by Netherland Art Here (http://web.mac.com/dvagallery/Netherland_Art/Artwork.html) - most of which feature people with hi-fi instead of heads - funny, I imagine some of our members look like this!

How do I go about getting that lady to pop over and lick my turntable?

Christian Marclay has done some interesting stuff examining the intersection between music, music reproduction, and art

4yqM3dAqTzs

I like a lot of his sound art stuff. He was what you might call one of the first 'turntablists' but he's also done more traditional installations, like this one:

Very interesting, thanks Nick. I now feel the urge to go to the Tate modern - I know that installation wasn't/isn't there but I just love spending some time there and that reminded me I haven't been there for a while. I'm in Waterloo next Friday so maybe I can sort something then, hmmm...

I did wonder if they were, Jeff, thanks to seeing them in your posts. Sorry they got murdered in the name of art...

A couple of years ago the Tate hosted a Christmas event including Christian Marclay, and another of my favourites, People Like Us. The People Like Us section was broadcast on Radio 3 IIRC.

Otomo Yoshihide is another one doing interesting art with hi-fi... subverting the tools of the DJ and music reproduction.

You wouldn't want to buy a used turntable or cartridge from him though, would you?!

I thought the photograph was of a gymnomastic melophage. Isn't that honey being poured onto the record?

It certainly looks like it could be, yes :) It'd get rid of the nasty coke bitterness :eyebrows:

The whole scenario reminds me of a very interesting night I spent an expensive lady back in my 20's :eyebrows:.
