I've been outside since 10am wearing thermal t shirt+normal t shirt+quilted jacket+fleece, and didn't feel the cold one bit. And the sun still had some warmth in it. Like Billy Connolly said: No such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

However to use and look at my phone I have to remove the gloves, and it's then I feel the cold!

Managed to find the shop but it was a waste of time as they did not have what I wanted. They offered to order it for me, but thanks to Brexit it would be held up in customs for at least a month! (But that is a discussion/rant for another day. )

You need to get yourself a nice big valve amp in there mate then you can listen to your tunes and keep warm all at one cost!:lol:

I think they told you that rather than say they couldn't be bothered to order it for you. Nothing is held up for a month from anywhere if the paperwork is correct. I've seen shipments delivered Beijing to London in 24hrs.

And you'll pay VAT and customs on it, not worth it.

Yes for a single item - but it depends on how much you are willing to pay for delivery as to how fast it would arrive. Makes no difference where it is coming from.

If you know someone who lives in France, have them buy the book and then send to you 'as a Christmas gift' :)
It's all about the paperwork. If that's correct it will fly through. If not it will get delayed - usually by the carrier as they process the clearance, that's not done by government employees. IME the most common reason for delay in clearance is incorrect commodity code. Second most common incorrect value declared.

I would suggest Barry contacts an asylum seeker and gets him to buy the book then bring it with him and drop it at Barry's house for a small fee, but that idea has too many moving parts.
Alternatively Barry could get the ferry over to Calais and make purchasing the book part of a Christmas booze cruise. And then hand the book together with his home address to one of the illegal immigrants to bring over on t'dinghy. But I've heard this courier method can be unreliable.

0c this morning and a little bit of snow
got lots of snow on ground etc. around -1c here so its not going anywhere, like me. started around 3am(i was watching lol) maybe 2 or more inches. was huge big flakes too
minus 3 here right now. Will rise to zero by 1300 but that's it.
Giving out snow for this evening and all night. Then switches to sleet.

Maybe won't go above zero till Monday now! Seems dry though, which is good.
Managed to get the room temp up to 13C with the 2.25 KW heater running for two hours. Was 10C when I got up.
Really don't fancy it but I am going to have to go round to the supermarket as I've got next to nothing in.
Suppose on the plus side by comparison it will feel like a sauna in here when I get back.

job done - it really is bastard out there, no sun at all, foggy and a stiff breeze that cuts through you.
Got a lamb hot pot for later, don't usually buy ready meals but I can just bang that in the oven and go back in the warm while it cooks.

Lincolnshire - went there once many years ago. It's very flat. I fell over into some nettles.
some of the cars in the supermarket had snow on them so they must have had a taste of it already out in the bushes.
12 hours of snow due to start anytime now.
was forcast to be -4c tonight but its downgraded to 0c.
Starred off at -1C, and seems to have remained at that temperature all day.
Indoors it's 25C. Had to pop out to the shops, but wearing a heavy thick sheepskin coat and scarf I wasn't cold at all. Fortunately there is no wind.

Indoors we're down at 17C - but possibly my attempts to control the ASHP have reduced its output.
I find it bearable, but parts of the dwelling feel cold.
Haven't, however, felt so bad as to kick in my plan B - light the log fire.
we had a bit of snow but stopped now. About quarter inch.
2nd December -don't recall snow this early round here before.

Misty and foggy today. Sub zero temperatures all day apparently - high of -2C maybe, but tomorrow should be warmer, but probably wetter too.

minus 1 most of the day. Sun was out but there's very little heat in it any more.

Rain off and on but otherwise not too bad. Only a sight breeze and chilly but not bitter.
7C here now will get up to 10C tomorrow, but forecast also indicates rain for most of the day, along with gale force winds.
It's been 6 - 8C here. Went for a haircut today - didn't notice the cold going in, but certainly noticed it when I came out!

Rain, rain, and more bloody rain. Only the size and density of the rain drops varies. Macca complains about all the rainfall in Stoke, but for me the only let up in the weather since last Friday was an hour walking found Hanley.
I might go there for me holidays next year.

I'd imagine the day-lengthening will not move in a straight line, but rather on a curve - so it will gather pace as we move towards the spring. My theory has absolutely no scientific basis that I'm aware of, maybe someone on here will be more clued up.

I don't know why we couldn't have done this a couple of days ago - she says you can't get your veg too soon, it won't keep. But we're not even having a trad christmas dinner, it's coming from th'Indian restaurant. Lamb Jalfrezi for me :)

Well we all need something to look forward to :) Actually it's the coming home in the dark I can't be doing with. I might not see too much of either, I plan to have a lazy couple of months in the new year to kick off my 'retirement', at least until I get bored.

Another miserable day. windy and wet. Feels a bit colder too. Only half decent day we've had was Boxing day.
same here, supposed to rain continually all day.
Going to be colder again next week.

We've not had a record breaking month for a few weeks. So what will it be? Windiest Christmas since records began? Wettest December in almost 12 months?
When did these so-called records actually begin? That would have been a record-breaking year.

according to Wikipedia about 1880
some of the windspeed records are probably not as high as they should be as the wind destroyed the equipment being used to measure it.
You'll be pleased to know Preston holds the record for the most rain in a 5 minute period (on 10/08/1983).
Cumbria has the most records for rain which is amazing, I can't imagine anywhere being rainier than here. It must never stop.

I think I read somewhere that Borrowdale (at the bottom of Derwentwater) is Britain's wettest place. We were there in February (at Ashness Bridge), it didn't rain but absolutely everything is covered in moss.

There's a weird vertical plume in the sky, looks like the after effects of a rocket launch, caused by a passing aircraft I guess.

I need to go to the supermarket so it's probably waiting until then.
Went out last night round to 'Kebab City' for my tea. Not raining when I stepped out, but it kicked in as soon as I was 100 yards from the house.
Sounds impressive, no doubt big enough to eat-in if the weather's crap. How did it gain City status? Does it have a cathedral made of doner meat? Or a university of Fast Food Technology?

No you can't eat in it's just a little corner shop.
I think 'City' means no tables and 'World' means there are tables but ones covered with the detritus left by previous occupants.
'Universe' - now that would mean they clean the tables occasionally. But you never see those.

Pandemic killed a lot of sandwich places, was a bit of a problem for me last year but two new ones have now opened near to work.
There was one down the street from me that had been there as long as I can recall, it's a house now.
And I noticed the other day the world famous 'Caterbake' has gone, they made their own bread there - best bacon sarnies ever.

I'd be surprised if they didn't. That would be like Monty Python's "Cheese Shop" sketch. But it might be hard to locate on the shelves if you don't know the Polish word for 'Brasso'. You might get lucky and find something along the lines of 'Brassowski'.
Failing that you could try googling 'French Polishers' but there it gets confusing.

You absolutely need to be able to read the label.
It reminds me of a story about my long-gone Auntie Jenny, who was barely literate. When she first switched from lard to cooking oil, she made some chips for my uncle. Who remarked that they were taking a long time to cook, and noticed there were rather a lot of suds. Turned out she was deep-frying with Stardrops (other cleaning products are available).
I lived in a shared house with a youth who insisted on cooking with lard. He was about twenty stone.

They did make the best chips though. And even though frying was always with lard when I was growing up there were few fat kids around. It's all about moderation, and balancing eating with y'know, moving. I expect your 20 stone mate didn't get the memo, or couldn't bend far enough to pick it up.
