I would like to see if we can assemble a comprehensive list of people that are able to fix or service Hi Fi gear. It would be great to cover the whole of the UK

Their area of expertise such as valve gear, tuners etc etc would also be useful.

I dont know anyone in Essex or Herts, which is why I started this thread. :)

Quite some way from you Chris, Eric Wiley Castleford, well established and I have used to buy gear and have had gear serviced, :)

Gentlemen,

We would be interested in compiling a list of audio repairers from anywhere in the UK.

If sufficiently comprehensive, we can put it in The Knowledge for our Members to see.

Cheers
Barry

Retro Workshop just outside Southampton have a good reputation down here though I've not had cause to use them myself.

He probably does not need the work, but Nick Gorham of Long Dog Audio in Halifax is as good as it gets for Valve amps.

MrTechGuy in Sawtry, Cambs is one of the UK’s Meridian specialists but he does other stuff as well. He just repaired a 500 series CDT for me.

Audio Gold in London N8 also offers a repair service.

The following might no longer be offering services but worth asking:

I don’t know if he’s given up repair work in favour of sales but Mark Dolbear in High Wycombe repaired a CEC amp for me to a very high standard several years ago.

Mike Solomons of London Sound (somewhere near Harrow) repaired some old Rogers speakers for me, but I’ve not used him in the last ten years and I don’t know if he’s still going. He’d clocked up 45 years when I last spoke to him in 2012…

I don’t see Deco in Aylesbury on the thread. Hasn’t someone recently been singing their praises re repairing a high end CDP?

Frank Cookson on the Wirral for all things Tannoy and JBL. He refoamed my 15" DC drivers 5 years ago and touch wood they have worked perfectly since.

Deco Audio, Aylesbury, have been excellent for me in servicing a Croft Pre and resurrecting my Mark Levinson 390 CD player.
Highly recommended.

I recommend Alan (Firebottle). Superb service and a lovely gent to boot.

When it comes to valve stuff, he's a wizard.

Alan is the man for repairs, he has refurbished a Krell Amp for me, and has recently sorted a blown external PSU for a Phono Stage for me. Great chap!

My 2 olde reliable first time fix merchants are David Coe AD Audio in Wimbledon. Knows all valve kit inc Audio Innovations, Radford Quad & Leak + MOSFET - Cambridge AR Armstrong etc transistor kit. Reasonable and first class.

Avoid Top Repair Man in Guildford. Very costly and very bad experience. Cost me £1k!!!!! Would rather have breakfast with the Devil.

It would be better if we could have his business or e-mail address, rather than having to go through a forum, which for some would require joining.

Apart from that quibble, thanks for the contact.

Apart from that quibble, thanks for the contact.Use of the word quibble is a bit harsh, "a slight*objection*or criticism about a*trivial*matter" Offering a helping hand to the fraternity you believe in is not a trivial matter.....

Brian Limage. (fgmod@blueyonder.co.uk) is turntable setup/ speaker refurb/amp recap

Top repair man Guildford: Had a very bad experience from him. So close to taking him to small claims court, but time not on my side so left him alone
