I didn't realise that Tannoyvista was a review site. Have saved the link and will have a read.

I've just enjoyed passing a tranquil hour from the clocks going back with a coffee and a gentle browse of the site - got blissfully carried off by the story of the Lockwoods from Trident. Marvellous stuff and have "bookmarked" the site for more visits.

Nice work!

Pete

Nice to see HiFi News magazine sporting one of my photos this month.

May 2024 issue

I couldn't agree with Mr. Kessler more... Maybe he will eventually buy another L-07D one day?

Here the latest addition to Tannoyista news. Review of a huge Firebottle upgrade to the Croft Vitale SC preamplifier. And it's stonkingly good!

It's taken a while to get this one published as I've been totally enjoying it. It's been great working with Alan (Firebottle). Hats off to his hard work.

Also, a bit of a homage to the late Glenn Croft, too.

Nice bit of Kit Josie and would be on my list of Ultrasonic machines as I do believe they clean vinyl to another level compared to a vacuum suction liquid cleaning machine like the VPI 16.5? Certainly unveiling micro detail hidden in the dust etc sounds very interesting.

I was watching a discussion the other day about vinyl and the state of play / future and it appears there is always more to uncover in those grooves especially if you can mount your turntable on an air table or decouple it from any vibration what so ever.

Yeah.. it's quite a machine. I certainly wasn't expecting the results. The amount of texture it can reveal is quite something.

Hey all.

Introducing the Weiss DAC-204. A stunning DAC which has made me dig into my CD collection even more.

This little thing is quite astonishing and very, very versitile.

A well written review Josie. :)

I could be interested in the Weiss unit save for a couple of details, which given the professional nature of the kit, would have expected better.

First the S/PDIF digital input connection is a miserable RCA 'phono' socket, rather than a genuine 75Ohm BNC socket. Whilst this is not a fatal error (the mismatches are separated over a relatively short electrical length and being the inverse of one another, tend to cancel), it is disappointing to see.

Second there is an AES digital input using an XLR connector, yet few CDTs have an AES digital output: you yourself connect the 75Ohm RCA digital output from your Denon player to the 110Ohm AES input on the Weiss. Were it me, I would use a simple L-pad to match impedances and put up with the concomitant digital dignal loss.

Hi Barry

Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

That's interesting and I'll have to look into the l-pad.

The XLR is.an AES output and the BNC along with an RCA are both spdif output connectors rather than inputs.

Hey all.

Back in March of this year, a post by Matador (https://theartofsound.net/forum/member.php?10693-matador) on AOS announced a new company called 'Ranvoice Audio' who has set up creating audio gear. Based in Ukraine, I thought it would be great to do a review of their RV-1020 valve preamplifier.

Can it live up to it's claims?

Read it in full:

Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks

Yeah, I must admit, the system sounds sublime. The amount of detail and energy is astonishing.

If you can get a demo, it's well worth it.
