Ascot Hifi Show

Went to Ascot show in the UK at weekend. Though may be interesting for some:

High end:
Kroma Atelier Stella Xtreme: Damnnn, good.
Perlisten S7T powered by Primare: Damnnnn, good.
Magico: Very good
MBL: Very good


Special mentions for much cheaper setups that pound for pound sounded great after walking out of the top rooms:

Totem signature one powered by Rega
AVI ADM10 actives

Crazy how much room acoustic treatment appeared to make a difference. Those that didn't bother were at a major disadvantage.

verity audio were not there sadly otherwise i would have gone , although perhaps not as the usual train strike was on i think

Those exhibitors which haven't treated their rooms either don't give a monkey's or haven't got the knowledge. Either way it's not a good impression.

Or perhaps they are smaller/start up companies and don't have the budget?

You don't need much of a budget to strategically place some blankets, cushions, rugs or a duvet or two. I've used all these and more in customer's houses during a tricky install, very effective.

Even 'fancy panels' needn't cost a lot. I've recently replaced my old home made panels with 5 GIK panels which do the same job but are really smart. I don't recall the price but believe around £300. If an exhibitor can't afford similar, they are not the one's to buy anything from..:trust:

True. Even a few big rolls of bubble wrap would do. Cover them in fabric. No need to spend a fortune on this stuff.

Exactly. The home made absorbers I've used for years were chipboard covered in a layer of loft insulation with a linen curtain material stretched over. They certainly did the job but were a bit scruffy because I'm not much cop with neatly stretching the fabric round corners.

Just their Spot panels. Really effective but inexpensive. Not worth making your own.
