Was a fine day yesterday: cut the grass, swept up the leaves. But didn’t get around to washing the car.

It's been more than three weeks now since I last mowed the lawn - rain just hasn't held off long enough for it to dry out. Grass not yet long enough for the cat to hide, but it's getting there. She's very excited about it.

Had a lot of Red Admirals round here this last couple of weeks. Probably the best-looking of all our native butterflies. It is quite late for them to be out, though the weather has been pretty warm (apart from all the rain).

Been nice and warm. Had the youngest grand daughter whizzing up and down outside on my eBike, she's well impressed and hadn't tried one before. Gives her a possible alternative to a car as she's just passed her test, but can't afford to buy one yet, let alone the insurance.

Yes. Yose brand, not top end, but nice quality and better made than some of the other kits I've seen. The are a few things to watch if buying, choosing front or rear wheel conversion (front tends to be easier to fit), wheel size, gear type if going for rear conversion, battery matching unless kit includes one. Etc, ask me if you need to.

A few flooded roads in Preston today. One such area has been closed, but it didn't stop some smartarse in a Ford Transit going for it. It did look like he made it to the other side unfortunately, but the water was above the floor of his load space. I do hope there was nothing valuable in there ;)

I once watched a woman drive a BMW Mini into a flood that was up to the top of the bonnet. The car started floating about in it, much to her dismay.
Someone in a Range Rover drove in and gave her a nudge to the far bank.

June 2012 (a time of much rain), Anita was driving from Chorley to Southport, and followed an ancient Ford Fiesta through a flooded stretch of road. The Fiesta coped well, our two year-old Astra not so much. It died at the deepest point, and everything packed up. The central locking wouldn't let her open the door, but luckily she had her window down, as the electric windows wouldn't operate either.
Some bloke in a Land Rover and wearing waders dragged her through the window (and presumably needed a lie down for a bit afterwards). It must have been like pulling 15kg of wet laundry out of a 7kg-load washing machine.
The car was a write-off, not that Anita was bothered, she didn't like the car anyway. The insurance payout went towards the car she really wanted - women will go to extraordinary lengths to get their own way ;)

We don't get that kind of snow round here, but we do get drifts of chavs on street corners... sometimes tempted to drive into them :)

There should be a bounty on them, fifty quid for each one you hit. Likewise for the electric scooter people.

lol, it was fairly local and unusually and luckily it was powder snow so it didnt hurt too much. it had drifted up a slight slope in such a way as to look like a normal hill on road. guess if you knew road youd have guessed it but i didnt...he says sheepishly:D

I did ours on Tuesday, just ahead of the latest batch of rain. But it was all wetter than I was expecting, and I made a right bloody mess of it. Literally. I had to repeatedly scrape the sodden cuttings from the underside, and cut my finger on the blade. Which bled. A lot. The top of the mower looked like a crime scene. No, I did have it switched off, I'm not that daft!

Last couple of days - absolutely foul. Very wet, damp, cold - though not too much wind. Went out last night - horrible drive across/along the Black Isle, and back.
Foggy/misty in places.
Today - completely different. Sun is out, no wind, no rain. A bit warmer - could get up to 15 degrees C. Much pleasanter, though I think the ground will still be sodden.
Localised flooding in fields nearby.
15c, light cloud and dry; no wind either.
Crikey - Sun has burnt through haze, now have blue skies and 25c in back garden, no wind :)

The recent warmer weather has brought out flying insects in their droves, and so orb-weaving spiders have been quick to cash in. The drizzle today has made the multitudes of webs very visible, which must be a sickener for the spiders. Next door's monkey puzzle tree is a towering mass of the buggers.
A couple of very large webs running between the house and bushes has forced me to detour, I don't want to ruin their good work.

Nah, since I "semi retired" in January, I don't do work for anybody else. I just have my own customers, and can pretty much pick my days. So no work yesterday and today, tomorrow and the rest of the week I'll be pretty busy. After next January when I will also get my state pension, I can afford to be even lazier :)

Rain most of the day. On the way to work it was good to see so many drivers obeying the new Highway Code:

In conditions such as torrential rain you should always drive as fast as possible. Really put the pedal to the metal.
This is especially important when it is absolutely pointless to do so, such as when approaching a give way junction or a tight turn that your rot-box of a vehicle could never manage at anything more than 20 MPH. Even if you were Max fucking Verstappen. And you're not.
The rain cleared by lunchtime, but the appalling standard of driving currently practiced remained.

Heating not been on yet this autumn. It's 21C in here and I don't feel exactly warm, but haven't really thought about it, so it must be tolerable.
It's the first time it's come on this autumn, so the house insulation is doing its job.
My partner is African, and despite having lived in the UK for thirty-odd years still finds the cold. If she had her way the thermostat would be set at 25C!
Has to be at least 22C before I feel totally comfortable. And I've never been to Africa!
been to some places that are just as warm - but without the humidity. Got to be into the 30Cs before I start to think it's too hot.

Our house could do with better insulation (it's a 'true' bungalow, and so there is no upstairs, just loft space). But I'm holding out for when the govt do some kind of 'green incentive', as insulation products prices have been silly since the start of the energy prices nightmare. Hopefully it will happen soon.
They do an incentive now but you have to be claiming some form of benefits to qualify.
Stop work for a bit and sign on and you can get it all for free, The sign off and go back to work.

They do give a list of all the benefits that qualify you for it. I'll save the next one I get. No doubt the info is on internet somewhere but noticed before the Gov make that stuff very hard to find and even if you do find it they never make it clear exactly what the deal is.

Quite right too. They have an important job to do, and anything we can do to improve their working conditions is to be applauded :) I currently have a web going between the glove box and the passenger seat of my van, and as I rarely take passengers she's welcome to it. The sun is going through the windscreen now, so it should be toasty warm.

Went to the Oktoberfest way back in 1971. Camped nearby and had a grest time. Discovered the Loewenbrau there was a darned sight better than was the UK imported brew.

Not guaranteed - I was holidaying in Holland and wanted to try the local Oranjeboom lager, a brew which I had enjoyed in the UK. Sad to say, it was not so enjoyable. When I mentioned this to the bartender he replied that was because the best was exported to the UK!

I suppose there are always going to be disappointments, but memorable brews for me are Estrella Damm (Catalunya region of Spain, but probably sold nationwide), Bofferding (Luxembourg) and Kamenitza (Bulgaria). Never been disappointed with any of those.
A large part of it may simply be cold beer on a hot day, simple as that :cool:

Okay there's some issues like you need rain, fair enough, but it should only rain at night. Much less inconvenient. But it was a rush job, all had to be done in six days.

Yeah things would be so much better if He'd spent a bit more time at the planning stage. Distribution's all over the shop - too much for us, not enough for Africa. He did lay on a giant reservoir which should be enough for everyone, then ruins it with too much salt :(

I drove through north Greenford and Northolt yesterday, big traffic jams, diversions, road closures and blokes in dayglow orange suits all over the place. All due to HS2 works. It's a huge project covering a massive area.
I'm betting that soon, they'll decide once again to expand Heathrow airport and we'll end up with another enormous, disruptive project on the go in this area.

certainly a stay home day me thinks. wind gusting to 50mph so not too bad; a lot is heading your way steve. angus up to south aberdeen seems the very worst hit here..

Bad enough what's happening here now, so as it's going to get worse I decided to make a couple of calls and sod the errands. Some bloke owes me money, but that can wait until Monday :) Glad I chose Thursday instead of Friday to do outdoor stuff.

Rain has stopped, but the wind is even worse than Wednesday. Last few leaves on the acer have gone. I feel sorry for my old workmates, out there fitting windows in this, tee hee.
Still gusting near 50mph. 7c and not much rain at moment but to be heavy all night
torrential rain all day, without a break. Still going now. Windy too but that's par for the course here.

Was like a ghost town here last weekend, that drop off in the temperature always gets rid of all the people loafing about on the streets for no reason.
Hardly any traffic either so I'm assuming they are finally being priced out of pointlessly driving around too.
Cold rainy dark mornings have got rid of the students too. In early September I see loads of them first thing, bright and bushy-tailed, on their way to the 0800 lecture.
Soon as it gets bad you don't see a one.

Soon as it gets bad you don't see a one.
When I was growing up students would tough it out in bad weather with army surplus trench coats. But now, after twelve years of being ferried to school by mummy they barely have any road sense, let alone a decent coat. If you mentioned 'stop look listen' or the Tufty Club they'd look at you like you was mental.

They usually wearing headphones to ensure they don't get any aural cues as to what's happening around them and visual cues are taken care of by them staring constantly at their 'smartphones' *(should really be called idiotphones).
And your right they don't seem to know what a coat is let alone own one. Although they almost all wear a backpack or Bergen with apparently nothing in it.

We were forecast a cloudless blue sky too, but the overhead clouds obviously didn't get the memo, because it's now chucking it down.
There was a wren and a robin picking bits off our outdoor Christmas tree this morning, so I thought I'd treat them to a proper breakfast. I had no bird feed, so I put a handful of cornflakes on top of the garden wheely bin. Which they completely ignored. Now it's a slab of orange mush which even I wouldn't eat.
Not a cloud in the sky here.

It was nice enough to go out for another zoom around on the eBike, just got back. Didn't go too far, did about five miles and not at all puffed out (had it on PAS 3 and 4 if that means anything to anybody). Proper fun! :)

thought pas3 was limit legally for speed; ie 15.5 mph
clouded over a bit now but still quite bright.
1 more week before the start of three months of perpetual darkness.

Presumably that would vary according to motor rating. Mine's 250 watt/36v, speed was indicating about 14mph generally. Tried PAS 5, it just gave more assist than I wanted, but didn't go faster. It will approach 20mph downhill (might do more?). Nobody about with a radar gun :).
