Cable risers for the desperately bored of life

Made some of these with a few over - cable risers guaranteed to elevate your listening pleasure (sad gits, aren't we ?).
Accommodate up to 11mm or 20mm cables. Solid mahogany 70x40x40mm.
Can be used either way up. For best results orientate the wood grain with the north magnetic pole.

I could make some more from mahogany, oak or teak if anyone is desperate enough to want some.

These are really my first attempt so the machining is not perfect (cosmetic only) but will improve if I make some more. As a special, once only bonus (trumpets please) I'll throw in a fifth riser which has a rather thin edge on one side (the drill slipped a bit).

Set of four for £20 inc postage.

By the way, the visible line down the centre of one riser is a natural mark in the timber - not a pencil line I've forgotten to remove !

Nice work - but living in Glastonbury, I'm surprised you don't know that cables should always be orientated along a lay-line, as should the grain of the wood. ;)

If you have mains power line running directly under the floor and buried so shallow it can actually interact with the speaker cable maybe it might help?

Otherwise I can't see any good reason.

I don't believe the increase in capacitance will have any audible effect because the capacitance of the cables is negligible compared to those in the crossover.

(Interesting the article citing the capacitance measurements does not quote values, nor does it mention the overall length of the cables.)

Yes I did ask the question, but I already suspected the answer.

To put things into perspective, when I used long speaker cables they were two 6m lengths of QED 79 strand cable (a cable well-regarded at the time) having a capacitance of 58pF/m, so a total capacitance of ~350pF. This to be compared with the capacitance of my speakers, which is about 2uF, or getting on for 6000 times that of the cables.

Even if the carpet over which they lay were to increase the effective cable capacitance by 2.5x, the ratio is still about 2400.

In my case the cables run under the floor (and do not have any mains cables nearby: the mains cables run down and are buried in the walls). But now I use monoblock amplifiers located directly behind the speakers, so the speaker cables are only 1 metre long.

To be clear, I know cable lifters are utter bollocks, but these looked nice and I fancied a couple of sets for comedy value.

Agreed, they are beautifully made and considering the work involved offer very good value for money.
