As part of the revamp going on at the new house, I am considering a Bluesound Vault 2i or similar, rip my cds and also idiot proof streaming.

Looking for suggestions or if someone has something suitable they are thinking of moving on.

Cheers
Robin

Have you considered the new Eversolo DMP-A6 streamer. It can be fitted with an M2 ssd card (up to 4tb). You can also plug in a usb cd player to rip cds to the ssd storage. At £759 it is hard to beat.

A good M2 ssd will add about £70 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MZ-V7S2T0BW-970-EVO-Plus/dp/B07MLJD32L/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1G8EXUQI4J10F&keywords=2tb%2Bm2%2Bssd&qid=1693316736&sprefix=2tb%2Bm2%2Caps%2C89&sr=8-4&th=1

Thanks Geoff, I will make a note of that.

JUst looked at a couple of you tube reviews all very positive, there is also a lengthy post PFM about this product, looks like more research required.

Word of warning - I have an Eversolo DMP-A6 and it's a great sounding streamer/DAC. I did install a 2Tb SSD card in mine, so it can be used to store your files (up to 4TB), BUT the Eversolo user forum is full of complaints from people who can't get the device to recognise their CD drives and rip CDs. Just search for "Zidoo Eversolo Forum".

Even if you can get the A6 to recognise your CD drive, it often seems to fail to rip successfully. I've not tried this myself, as all my CDs were ripped into FLAC years ago so I simply copied the files onto the SSD. Of course a new version of the firmware may be released that solves the issue, but based on the reports I've seen, I would not rely on the A6 to rip CDs at the moment.

Do do your research carefully...

I read that the problem was a compatibility issue with some cd usb cd drives.

Might be worth getting something on Amazon with Free Returns to confirm. Plenty of branded drives around £20-£30.

Good idea Geoff, if I decide to purchase the Eversolo

There does seem to be a few issues with Eversolo, although I see Elite Audio have it in stock and are raving about it.

It looks like an interesting unit for sure.
Personally, I would want something without an inbuilt DAC.
The WiiM Pro+ is much cheaper, but not sure if it sounds as good.
That also has an AKM DAC built in, which I prefer to the ESS.

The WiiM Pro+ is certainly a lot cheaper, but I would prefer something that has storage/ripper functionality.

Well I do have a MacBook Pro, that could be utilised maybe.

What would be required to ensure decent sound Grant?

Most modern laptops no longer have an optical drive built in.

I would plug it into your DAC and see how it sounds. You may be surprised.

usb it into dac and install a free trial of river or something like that. you have a ripper and player all there. you can use/control jriver via a mobile app too, and if you lie you can move up to roon, although its a lot more expensive and you'll need something to use for ripping.
