Just one observation: the mains lead is not double insulated, which is frowned upon these days. If I were selling the record deck I would replace the lead with one that has double insulation.

Good man, and GLWS.

Given the amount of work you have done, it's a bargain. :)

Should I connect the earth ? Or will that create a hum ?

Hmm! (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

What you are asking is to open up a bit of a 'can of worms'.

As is, Thorens intended the metalwork of the deck to be earthed via the screen-braiding of the tonearm leads, which would then connect to the metalwork of the amplifier.

I don't really like this arrangement, as it depends on conductors which have insufficient current capability IMO, and on my TD124 the metalwork is earthed via a separate wire back to the amplifier, whilst still retaining the 2-core mains lead.

If you fit a 3-core mains lead and earth the deck with the yellow/green wire, as well as using the screen braiding of the audio leads you will create an earth loop.

My advice would be to leave the earthing arrangements 'as is', and fit a 2-core double-insulated mains cable (or a 3-core cable, but ignore the 'earth' wire).

Also some form of strain relief around the mains cable going into the screw board thing would be good - if it got tugged out the chassis could potentially be live voltage?

I've suggested the earthing arrangements are left 'as is': that is, the shielding of the cables from the tonearm are used.

There is a cable strain relief fitted under the deck, which no doubt is used with the new mains cable.
