View Full Version : Anyone know this Driver ?
Morning all,
Does anyone know what this driver could be ? It’s 14” long and in a pair of large diy cabs.
Picked them up this morning before work so I haven’t had a chance to open them up .

Yeah, looks like EMI 14A/770N or related unit. Nice drivers with synthetic rubber surrounds and cast alloy chassis, power handling was around 25 watts if I recall. (I think I still have the original EMI driver brochure somewhere :))
Those shown in the ebay Monitor Audio listing appear to have had something horrible done to them, the thin aluminium central 'sub-cone' has been butchered I suspect.
I will give the speakers a listen before stripping them as they may sound pretty good .
Here’s one tweeter ( with the pushed in dust cover sadly)

Earlier KEF T27. The dome may be persuaded to pop out.
I’ll get the vacuum on it later but it doesn’t look fixable.

Warm it a bit with a hair dryer first.

They look about 38" high and 15" wide. Nice cabinets with removable baffles, ideal for a project if they don't work well. EMI elliptical + T27 was a popular combo circa 1970.
Yea break so I thought I’d take a peek at the EMI ..

Crossed my mind that those cabinets would suit a pair of ten inch Tannoy drivers rather nicely :).

I might list them for free otherwise they’ll be in our skip soon
