FM radio without internet

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct section but here goes. My Samsung phone has built in FM radio that no longer works, a notification states it needs to update but it wont update because the update isn't available :scratch: anyhow the upshot is I cant use it anymore, I've done the on and off again thing, cleared history closed all tabs etc to no avail. So can anyone recommend an FM radio app that works offline, I've tried a a couple that stated they worked offline but they didn't, ta Jim

Excuse my ignorance on such matters, but can you not use DAB on your phone? Most popular stations will be broadcasting in DAB I would have thought.

Hello Steve, I'm not sure, would a DAB app use data? My contract doesn't have much data usage

I wouldn't have thought so. My Makita job site radio is DAB, and I just switch it on. Doesn't need Wifi or anything.

Of course it may be different with mobile phones, but it's worth looking into. I don't think my two most-used stations (Planet Rock and R6 Music) are available on FM.

alas in general it does use data or wifi... there are services that dont i believe tho.

Hi Grant, I looked at that but nothing worked for me. It's odd that Samsung Radio prompts for an update but then says the update isnt available and then I can't use it. I've tried a couple of fm radio apps that say they don't need internet connection but it turns out they did:doh: maybe I should've posted in computer disaster corner

can only think either phone has a fault or the firmware/software is faulty. maybe contact samsung? guess it might depend on age

Might I be so bold as to suggest a change in phone tariff ??

I used to work for Orange and have always bought a handset (typically Chinese) and gone for a rolling "sim-only" deal which you can cancel at 30 days' notice.
They're much better value than being tied into a normal contract where you effectively pay for the cost of the phone over 18 or 24 months.

I'm currently with GiffGaff (on the O2 network) and pay the princely sum of £8/month for unlimited texts, calls and 5Gb of data, more than enough to cover listening to DAB for that period :D

Hi Paul, that's the kind of deal I'm on with IDmobile ,£6 a month, I think I get about 2gb of data maybe a bit more

im on giff gaff too, as is my son... they are very good. think i pay a tenner, but lots of data which i rarely use tbh

I'm with 1p Mobile (EE network). Yearly contract works out at £3 per month. Unlimited calls and texts but only 250mb of data per month.

just checked and i get 20gb for the tenner
