Denon DCD-1700NE - Should I try, again?

What are the chances Denon has corrected the smell issue with their "new" models?

Should I roll the dice, again?

I purchased it new. It had a stronger smell at the beginning but I actually liked it. Smelled exactly like MAXELL UDI cassette tapes from the 80's. It's just a an electronic smell, must be from what we they make the pcb's out I expect. Doesn’t smell as much now but definitely nothing horrible.

Hopefully, the warranty period in the UK is longer than that of the US (1 year for that much $$ does not seem like a sufficient enough period).

Despite the sniff test, the two I had here briefly did sound quite nice.

I am strongly considering the Denon DNP-2000NE to use as a DAC (transport longevity not being an issue). It also steps up to Ultra AL32 from Advanced AL32. I had my eyes on 2nd hand PS Audio PerfectWave/DirectStream DAC's (about the same cost) but there have been reports of the touchscreens going bad. I don't really want to deal with such an issue.

I have had several Denon DVD players and two had an "electronics cooking" smell. They both failed due to SMPS failure.

I have had the 1700NE for about five months now and no dodgy smells. :)
